Sorry I'm so late on this topic. I'm new to this board.
Just had to comment on on a thread below about picking technique and jazz picks.
I use somewhat larger 'soft triangle' Fender jazz picks for playing guitar and won't use anything else, they just work the best for me. I find the 'teardrop' version to be to small. I bought about 60 of them from that evil entity Guitar Center (sorry, I'm really into smaller custom luthiers and independant shops) (http://www.baranikguitars.com)!!!and I can't find them anymore! [sosad] I can't stand those huge mongoloid picks! Mind you it's all just personal preference.
This is just a thread that some of you might be interested looking into that I posted sometime back on a forum for acoustic instruments called the 13th Fret. Thile, in my opinion, is the most talented and gifted mandolin player out there right now, and, obviously (to me anyways) that comes from his technique. (And God's blessing certainly doesn't hurt!) I draw some analogies about it in this post. Check it out, and feel free to respond back with any comments or insight.
