This new site is great and really looking forward to hearing and learning more from other fans about Sean and his music and hopefully we'll get Sean a lil more active with us here... thanks to Matt for all the hard work in setting this up and the long hours of work of maintaining it!

Back to listening to the Birth... later...

It's the harmony. Being a brass player, with church choir roots, I appreciate harmony. Sean's writing is clean and original, and the vocal harmonies just kill me. The lyrics are inspiring too. I mean, these goosebumps hurt! Let it Fall has moved me to tears every time I've heard it live.

This music is special, and I'm grateful to be alive during this time to hear it.

I know what you mean! Everytime I hear Let it Fall I just get misty eyed and feel so inspired. Since I am a songwriter I aspire to write songs that touch others as much as that one does. Sean rocks. His guitar playing also gives me extreme chills!

Sean, is one of the most amazing guitarists i've heard! He is clean, and smooth, seriously if i could choose one person to take giutar lessons from it would be him because his personal style actually reminds me of mine, that may sound wierd but before i had really listened to Nickel Creek i tried to implement that sort of clean sweet style

God Bless

Sean is one of those people you wonder how he did it! He's SO good. And yet, he's very humble about it, very rare these days in popular people. One of favorites of his is The Birth...also Ferdinand the Bull.

The Birth is one of my favorite tracks. I tabbed out the guitar solo if anyone is interested. The key is A#.

I'd like the tablature to that too! My email address is bugamile@aol.com. Also, if anyone has the chords to Let It Fall, that'd be awesome! I can give you the chords (and my understanding of the lyrics, probably aren't 100% accurate) to This Side.
By the way, one of my favorites from Sean's CD is The Ant and The Ant!~
:-D
Thanks,

I'm not sure how specific I can be about these things, but since several of you have asked for this solo, let me just give everyone else a hint...
It is based on the A# Ionian (major) mode, that is:

A#-C-D-D#-F-G-A

If you were to beging playing this scale on the low E-String (6th fret)...it would concievable look something like this:

E ---------------------------5-6-
B -----------------------6-8-----
G -----------------5-7-8--------
D -----------5-7-8--------------
A -----5-6-8--------------------
E -6-8---------------------------

Most of the solo is hidden in there--there is only some variation taken on the high E-string when it changes to a minor chord (that is, a G-minor is implied)...but it is still based on the same mode.

This should get you set to figure it out on your own, but I'm still willing to e-mail it to anyone interested. :)

Hello Nickel Creek Fans~

I am also a HUGE Nickel Creek Fan! I saw them in concert last August in Washington state, and let me tell you- It was the best live show I have ever seen! They are such wonderful musicians and I had the chance to meet them. They are the sweetest and most humble group I have ever met. (And Sean is such a doll) Does anyone know if they are coming to the Sacromento Area any time soon?[think]

one of my fave things about seein NC live is the fact that sean sings let it fall. i don't know why he didn't sing it on the album. he is so talented. everytime i see them live i am up front in the first row. and when sean goes to sing i sit on the edge of my seat and just look at him and listen. they must really think that i am crazy, but i love to hear him sing :p

I was also wondering why he didn't sing his own song...he is a MUCH better singer than the guy who sang it for him...interesting...

yes i think that he should have sang his own song to. nothing against glenn philips, but i love seans voice and i just think he should have sang it himself. but looks like the live show is the only place that we can hear it.

It is rumored that NC will be playing in Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA on September 15th. Don't know if it is true though. I know everyone in Cali is looking forward to see if it is. I know I am so that I can finally see them live.

Maybe this should go into the General Discussions thread, instead I am replying to another post here at Sean's.....

Yes, NC is on the calendar at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, September 15th at 7:30pm. There are several Villa Montalvo sites, I found this info on VillaMontalvo.org/CalendarGenre.

The last time I saw Sean in person we talked about why he didn't sing Let It Fall and his future singing prospects. As everyone surely knows by now, his second forthcoming solo CD will contain 9 tracks with him singing vocals!!! He said he's becoming more confident in his voice. Glen is a big inspiration to the band, and I would guess a combination of Sean's humble opionion of his singing, paired with his admiration of Glen Phillips prompted the track being recorded the way we know and (even if we would have prefered Sean's singing) love!
