Hey,
I was wondering, is anyone else a fan of Sixpence None The Richer (SNTR)? I've been a long time fan and I can't wait for their next album. It's label said it's set for release on the 29th of Oct. I was just giving out that info and, if there are any fans out their have you listened to any of their older albums, The Fatherless and The Widow, This Beautiful Mess, and Tickets For a Prayer Wheel? If so, what do you think of them? I think they're all great and Divine Discontent will be great.

I own fatherless and the widow, beautiful mess and the self-titled. IMHO, This Beautiful Mess has been their best. Ethereal art-pop at it's finest. Fabulous delay-guitar work, wispy-floating vocals and lyrics with depth.

yeah, i have all their other stuff. if the material for divine discontent is what i think it will be, i'll enjoy it. i heard them open for over the rhine (christmas show, cincinatti, december 2000) when they were still in lots of flux with the label. it was good stuff. i really liked the lyrics.

ever heard brownhouse? they have that art pop thing down too...in a young way.
they also share some things with sixpence. leigh nash then bingam was vocally trained for a while by karin bergquist...lead vocalist for over the rhine. karin and linford were married by dave nixon who is the father of two of the three members of brownhouse. dave also sells their merchandise, helps them record etc. a regular family friend. i'm also pretty sure that brownhouse, like sixpence, has opened for over the rhine.
i like brownhouse. they have a website with songs up now.

yep...matt slocum. i wish he'd play the cello more often actually...he's very good. he obviously has a flare for instrumental stuff (which is major on tickets for a prayer wheel)...like monk (ric hordinski is frontman...and former member of over the rhine!--love the connections) and jacobstone (recent album regions). i wonder how many of these people already know each other as we speculate about their similarities.

Ric Hordinski is an AMAZING guitar player. Can you say the live version of If I'm Drowning on the Besides album? :D
I figured out of the whole band, Nickel Creek would know Matt Slocum. He's so versatile.....and i agree...he needs to play the cello more often!! :D

WOW
I think it's cool that Sean and the band know Matt. I think NC and SNTR are the two bests bands that are out now. I think it would be really cool if NC went on tour with SNTR. Those would be some amazing concerts! Divine discontent will most likely be another great SNTR album. I can't wait for it's release.

Yay! I am so glad you people like Sixpence! One of my favorite songs they do is the Grinch Christmas song. I just love it.
I have always wondered if Nickel Creek was into Sixpence, so that's really cool that they know them or Matt... Who actually spent a year in Berkeley, CA doing cello with a symphony recently (maybe last year). I read that in an interview about a month ago.
I am a big Over the Rhine fan, as well. Byron House, who plays bass on Nickel Creek's CD's and used to tour with 'em... also played on Over the Rhine's Good Dog, Bad Dog cd. Love it, love it.
Thanks for all the interesting facts, folks.

in talking to matt- it seems as the band funds his cello playing- he is more proud of cello than the band- and occasionlly forgets to mention he is a mamber of a band when meeting people ......
i chatted with him for a while about cello and clasical music adn composition, with no mention of his band- then a couple months later sean said - you know he plays guitar for sixpence? one of those things i wish i would have been told about earlier!!
