This is a couple days late, but this is the first time I actually had time to sit down and write this. It was a beautiful night down by the water this past Wednesday. The perfect night to hear some music. Most of you already know what an amazing show Nickel Creek puts on, but to me it seems like they just keep getting better. The set was an awesome mix of old and new stuff and some cool covers especially the Beach Boys tune Warmth of the Sun. They played a new song that Chris wrote after reading the book Empire Falls(I think) that was cool, and a really pretty instrumetal that he dedicated to his great first baseman grandfather. It was really sweet because you saw him acknowledge his granfather in the crowd. They had a lot of family and friends in the audience.
There were some very entertaining things that happened during the show. Sean broke a string and Sara and Chris broke into a little instrumental. Sean was having a bit of trouble of fixing it, but when he finally did we all cheered. At one point Chris asked how we all felt about spitting on strangers and of course we all cheered. But he commented that it would be pretty funny if a stranger found us cheering about that. Anyway they sang that and we sang the pull me out part. It was really fun. They made sure we really emphasized the line to make it sound like pull meowwt.I'm LOL right now thinking about it. Of course every song was amazing, but I especially enjoyed In the House of Tom Bombadil where they would go up and down in volume and have little pauses between notes. It's hard to descibe it, but sounded great. This Side was another highlight. It was nice because I saw Chris get a big smile on his face when Sean started singing. Some of the best were a georgous rendition of Sabra Girl, which I honestly got a little teary eyed during and an extended version of House Carpenter. There are more, but too numerous to mention.
The came out for two encores and played for a whopping 2 and a half hours. The first one had great high energy version of The Fox, but the second encore was even better. They played with no microphones, and asked everyone to get as close as possible and sing along if we knew the words. They played When You Come Back Down and Be Thou to My Vision. No words can express how beautiful they sounded. WYCBD was the song the really made me fall in love with the band, but it now has become even more special to me for another reason. I was sitting in the 8th row right in the middle and had perfect view, especailly now since the people in front of us left after the first encore(don't ask me why). Anyway during both songs but especially WYCBD I was smiling up at Chris and he sweetly smiled back down to me at least 3 times. I could tell he was looking directly at me because the was no on else in that specific vantage point. I think it's incredible that he made a specific connection to me. And I do not doubt that other people did as well. I saw both Sean and Sara do the same to others in the crowd. It made me feel really nice espcially since it wasn't just a quick little glance. I hope no one thinks that I'm bragging or anything because I definintely know how fortunate I am. I have officially become spoiled and definitely want to see them again. The entire show was wonderful, but that image of Chris smiling down at me will stay with me forever.
I hope everyone who went to this show had as nice a time as I had. And Jacey Im sorry I didn't get a chance to talk with you, but maybe you can respond to this post.
Thanks for Reading.
