Hi y'all! This is my first time posting....forgive me, I'm nervous. I've been lurking here for a while, a long while, just finally got the nerve to register and post. hee hee!!!
Anyways.....I noticed a while back on the Nickel Creek website it said that they would be performing a little concert on AOL, and that it would start today. I just watched it and it is AMAZING!!! I don't have AOL, but I downloaded it for the free 1025 hours thing they offer just to see this performance. I've seen Nickel Creek twice in concert, both times having to drive quite a distance (but we all have done that here to see our Creek, huh?? lol)
They performed 4 songs, around one microphone. First, This Side, then Spit on a Stranger, then Beauty and the Mess, and then the song I've been waiting to hear and see live....Warmth of the Sun. Lemme tell you, they did the Beach Boys proud. I highly recommend y'all see the performance, you won't be disappointed.
It took me an hour to figure where it was on AOL (once I finally got AOL downloaded-man AOL is slow, I have DSL lol!!), so lemme help you out a little. Once you're on AOL, go to Music, then to Music Styles, then to Country + Folk, then on the right side it'll show Sessions@AOL - Nickel Creek....just click on that.
Enjoy!

Well I thought I had nothing to lose when I tried the AOL link from NC's website even though I don't have AOL. It worked! I do know that I don't have an AOL IP address but maybe my ISP has some deal worked out with AOL? If it worked for me, maybe it will work for you. You need RealPlayer to view the concert and interview this way, though.

This really was a great recording! I'm glad they chose songs in which Sean, Chris and Sara were each able to sing lead vocals in at least one song.

Well.....umm....duh..... hahaha!! I sure wish that I had researched that a little longer to realize that I didn't have to actually download AOL to see the performance. You rock, Moiraine! Thanks for posting that, and if anyone downloaded AOL cuz of me, I'm truly sorry. (It's a blonde thing, I guess. ha!) (btw, I'm knockin' myself cuz I'm blonde, kay?)

It's okay, I was already plotting how I could convince my friend to make me an AOL account name or give me hers, and it was only by accident that I looked back at the NC News page.
I have watched/listened to this a few times already!! I'll probably watch it many more times... I'm worried that they'll take the files down so we can't watch them anymore. One time this website only left a similar streaming media file of another artist up for only about two weeks! I was upset that they took it down so quickly, because other artists in the series still had their concerts up.

I have to rant now! I just saw it and I am not happy. Sean wrote and sang This Side song on the album but chris overpowers him EVERY TIME they sing it live! It seems to me that chris is showing off and he never does that when sara sings! Yes Seans voice isnt as strong as chris's but dang chris needs to back off! Its seans spotlight and chris is making him the shadow! I personally think that Chris kinda killed the spit on a stranger song for me. Guys voices getting that high, not natural. We all know that chris is talented and no one really knows about sean b/c chris is ALWAYS in the way!
I'm sure sean doesnt mind or says that he doesnt but It bothers me and I'll say something.
PS not to piss of any chris lovers and no offence but dang. there is no vocal balance when chris and sean get together.
Ok I'm done

I've finally gotten to hear my favorite band sing a song by my other favorite band. Is God shining His light down on us, or what?!?

some of it is their sound guy- i highy doubt their normal sound guy did the aol thingy... and if it is someone that dosn't know what is up- it will sound horrible... so there is probably a lot more to it- an di would argure it is not just chris trying to show off.

Also, I was able to find this stuff in a few difference places. Just go to AOL.com and do a search for Sessions@aol. They've got TONS of bands and performances stored at Netscape.

Yeah as far as harmonies go, they sound wonderful together, but I'm talking about when chris decides to hit unknown octiaves when sean is trying to sing his part. I am not really talking about the sound guy (which i didnt even notice) b/c I have noticed this in live performances also.

Although Chris is rather....overpowering, high, and Chris....It was still fabulous! And I love the Beach Boys! Warmth of the Sun was great!!

Well, for the AOL thing at least, the sound guy can't have had anything to do with it - they were all singing and playing into the same mic! Not much a sound guy can do to change that!

I think chris knows he has the more powerful voice cause in most performances I've seen of him he backs away from the mic like 2 feet and sean and sara are right up to the mic and you can still hear chris pretty well.

I think Chris is more of the extrovert and Sean and Sara are more introverted, and that comes out when they sing. It's just another one of those things that makes Nickel Creek, Nickel Creek!!!
