just wondering what other fiddlers or violinists you guys listen to/ try to imitate/ admire?
darol anger, matt glasier, aubrey haynie, stuart duncan, claude williams [he is 94 years old- and still jammin], and mark o'connor- are some of my big heros. any one else share any common ground?

Aside from Sara Watkins...i would have to say Stuart Duncan, Mark O' Conner, Byron Berline & Martie Seidel

You guys have great taste in your fiddle heros. I agree with EVERY ONE that you mentioned! I would have to put Herman Johnson in there with them. He is a great fiddler. He is 81 and still going as strong as ever. But what kind of fiddle hero list is it without putting Alison Krauss in there?! :)

I would have to say Mike Marshal...he's great! I also love Aubrey Haynie, I am currently learning his Lakeland...very difficult. Lets see...Sam Bush is also pretty good, Rachel Mackey is also very good...hehe...

Hey do you guys listen to any other violinists besides fiddlers? I love fiddle music and everything but I find myself listening to the easier violin stuff for some reason...I don't know why...my favorite band is the Dave Matthews band...well, them and NC of course....but I find their music really appealing too...and I also like Lili haydn...just really simpe stuff like that. I also try and listen to other instruments like the trumpet...I love arturo sandoval! and then also just plain classical music...I really love beethoven...even his opera stuff...and Buddy Rich the drummer...and I love Chick Corea...Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else was an every-kind-of-music person like me....I LOVE music...period!

arturo is awsome- i got to be his personal security guard last month when he did a concert here- lol- they had a 3 hour long sound check, couldn't agree on anything!
beethoven opera-? do you mean fidelio? he didn;t write very many operas.
i love classical music too, spend a lot more time playing and analizing it than fiddlign stuff and jazz- even though i think those are more fun a lot- i love beethoven a lot, and bach- but find my self listening to von Williams [my all time fav composer] stravansky, copeland, Mahler, Mahler, and Mahler, and mostly other 20th centry composers- steve reich [violin phase :D ] and other progressive forms of 20th centry music-

Of course Fidelio...yeah he doesn't have much opera stuff, but you know what I mean :) I also just mean classical in general...I am glad that you enjoy arturo too! I have many friends that play the trumpet so that's how I kinda got into him ya know :) I LOVE Marienela...the version from Flight to Freedom though...the one from for Love or For Country Soundtrack is okay...but anyway...back to fiddling...if you want me to be honest I really don't know that many fiddle artists. I'm kind of new to the whole fiddling scene and I'm used to just classical playing right now. That is part of the reason I am going to Mark O'Connor's fiddle camp...so I can learn many more styles ya know. Nickel Creek is who really has got me into bluegrass and fiddling lately :)

i try to fiddle play alot like Stuart Duncan and Allison, but i haven't been exposed to much bluegrass so i dont know much fiddle tunes, but i am a HUGE Dave Matthews fan, and the violin player, Boyd Tinsley is amazing, he adds rock into his playing, its amazing to watch him:) :) :)

[eek!!] I LOOOVE the Dave Mattews Band!!!! Them and Nickel Creek are on the same lines when it comes to my favorite music! I don't find Boyd's to sound very challengingthough. I can't really say if they are because I have never actually played them before. I am bad at using my ear when it comes to fast stuff. I am just not patient enough. [alien]

Oh my goodness you've never heard Dave Matthews Band? They rock soo much! One of the reasons why I like them so much is because when people ask me what type of music they play I can't explain it. You will just have to listen to them! :) All I can tell you is they have a violin player and a saxophone player added onto the usual guitar, bass and drum players ya know. they rock soo much!

Both bands are really good....but Nickel Creek definately wins the award for skill. I don't think anyone can beat them for that.
