I got a new geetar a couple of weeks ago, and I am going to a NC show in a couple of weeks. My geetar is my baby, so it will be traveling with me to MO. The question is....should I ask NC to sign my guitar?

Here are my thoughts...

it is a baby geetar, so it would not be in the way.

It would probably motivate me to practice more.:D

And it would look truely delightful

But...it is my baby.

What if the ink smears

What if they have really ugly signatures?

I am torn and could use your opinion. Does this idea sound completely stupid?

off topic...is this little guy supposed to be Gollum?-[bigeyes] -

please don't have anyone sign your guitar. would you want some movie star to tattoo your child? get a nice poster or t-shirt for them to sign.

When I was a tour manager, people would show up not infrequently (maybe 2 or 3 shows on a 40 show tour) with guitars to be signed... and sometimes the guitars had dozens of signatures on them. The artists I worked for were always happy to oblige. So it's really not that strange. Other people had shirts with dozens of autographs, and one guy I remember had a jacket.

I think it's really up to you what you want to do...

mark oconnor. [very well known to creek]

has a famous white violin siged by every major fiddler he met hen he was growing up- i have a couple other friends that have doen the instrument thing- but mostly it has been instruments they dont' play- and have everyone on them- i have seen a few guitars with dave matthews sig only on them etc. but yea- somethign like that coudl eb really cool
- don't destroy a good instrument though

oh- realize if it is a instrument you are playing regularly- the sig will probably rub off in a few months- and become looking very tacky, if it is a sharpy... at least pu t in on a part of the instrument that isnt rubbed or touched by hands or clothing while being played [the headstock between teh pegs might be the best place]

my friend had his banjo head signed by alison brown (used to play with AK...I call her music flecktones lite). it was in a place where it wouldnt be rubbed off and it's very cool. so go for it. plus you'll have an excuse to get another guitar :-)

I still was undecided on the way to MO. But, after the show...well more like half way through the show...it was a no brainer.

I took it to Sean first, and as I stated in my Columbia review post he played it a little. Then he made a face and stopped (it was out of tune from the drive)[sob] He said It's Little! Then we talked about the guitar...He said are you sure??? and I said yes and he signed it.

I took it to Sara next. She said, are you sure you want me to sign this, I don't play the guitar. I did not respond very well to this one. I gave her a look and was thinking...I know you don't play the guitar! Hello~! Everyone knows that! But, she signed it despite the look.

I took it to Chris last. He talks a lot. He signed his name and put a little Jesus fish. I told him we drove from OKlahoma and he was impressed. He asked me if he could personalize my guitar in any way to make up for the dedication. He put me on the spot and I could not come up with anything!!!!! If Sean would have said that I could have named off a dozen things. Man Alive! Then as soon as we were back in the car, the ideas started pouring in. I hate it when that happens!

Anyways, I could not be more pleased. I am so happy I let Nickel Creek tattoo my baby. As for my children...I will consider it.

I cannot stop playing it. The signatures should do wonders for my skill. As soon as I have a picture of the guitar I will put it up. The only one I have of it, Sean is holding it posing for a picture with me. It does not show his signature, and it is a really bad picture of me. Therefore, you will not be seeing that one!

Congrats Missem! That's quite a drive to see NC, but I'm sure it was well worth it, without a doubt. It's really good to hear that they were each able to sign the guitar (although, too bad about drawing a blank when Chris asked if he could personalize it). I'm sure that they have each infused the guitar with powers to where you'll be able to play better now;)
Glad you enjoyed the trip, and I look forward to seeing pics of the tattooed baby!

P.S. I hope you weren't too hard on our dear Sara

That's cool that they signed your guitar.
I actually have a pic of Sara playing guitar in a backwards instrument jam. I don't know if she was proficient at playing (I found the pic on the net), but it is proof that she plays guitars.
:D

Sara first said she didn't play and then said that she didn't play well. I thought about just having Sean sign it, but then thought that would be rude. Like, Sean plays my instrument, so he is better than you are! Actually, the lines were so long and we had been awake for so much time that I actually thought about leaving with just Sean's sig.[sosad] but I am really glad I stayed.

Here is a pic of Sean with my guitar after he signed it, but my weird head move is covering up the signature. This picture of me is Blah! But Sean looks good and so does my geetar!

Thanks for posting that pic; it's great! That is so cool that you got to meet him and have him sign your guitar and get a picture made with him. I'm jealous.

 [shock] Ugh. It didn't look like that yesterday, but now I see what you mean. I wonder if it is just how the picture turned out; sometimes colors look different like that depending on the lighting and such. Missem, did it look purple and green when you met him?

[bigeyes] Did you mean Gollum from The Lord of the Rings? If that is what you meant, then I don't think so!!! And Sean's hair DOES look purple and green!

Sean's hair is purple and green because we were sitting right in front of the stage and the stage lights were still on. Don't worry, Sean didn't go Chris on us and dye his hair funky colors! I tried to fix it in Photo Shop, but in the end Purple and green looked better than anything I did to fix it.

And yes, I mean Gollum from LOTR. The description of him is a blueish greeenish tint with big yellow eyes. I am sure it is not what he looks like in the Two Towers, but this is what I always thought Gollum would look like!

i never know what to do regarding signatures... i always feel... weird.. asking...

i've only really gotten two bands's's's autographs, one was Better than Ezra on my sailor moon lunch pail, back in '97, and another was Sloan on my 'rare-ish' Peppermint ep cover... and their signatures look like oop-op-boo and crooooow respectively. they didn't think it was funny, when i poked fun at them for it.. Ezra's, for the most part, was legible, specially the is this the spice girls? that one wrote on it;)

that's very cool, i absolutely love the pic! maybe one day, they'll swing back by phoenix again, and i'll get my chance to go see them!

Wow, I'm soooo jealous! Sean is such a cutie and a wonderful guitar player! I want to see them in concert soooooo bad! Now, if they come 'round to Oklahoma, I'll probably the FIRST in line to get tickets! Oh, and don't worry about not bein' able to say anything to Chris, I would be like that too! My Dad did most of the talking when I met Brad from Emerson Drive ( not too bad looking either, eh? ). I just nodded and smiled and managed to squeak out 'will you sign this?', 'Emily', 'yes' 'uh huh', and 'can I have a picture with you?' and 'thanks!'. lol I did better when I went through the autograph line after the concert where I talked to all of them...in complete sentences! lol Sorry to get off the topic, just wanted to share! ;)

I got bored at work and got to thinking about what my future child would look like with an NC tattoo. So I photoshopped this picture. *This is not my child...and it is not a real tattoo*

How appropriate to tack this post on to this thread. To brand your kid, or not to brand your kid? That is the question.

That is hilarious Bryan. Considering the joy my signed guitar has given me, I will be branding my children. A little NC crown...IT would be perfect. Even better...Let NC sign their names in permamnent ink. What is something that would stay on forever? Oh Can you imagine the rage that my children would harbor towards me. That would be like my parents branding me with an Areosmith tat. Blah....never mind. I will just brand myself.
