okay, okay: i know the retailers have been shoving christmas down everyone's throats since halloween finished up...but i am personally ready to start attending to it.

i'm thinkin' about music. my current favorites are:

the carpenters' christmas portrait
shawn colvin's (has wintery songs and lullabies)
harry connick, jr.'s
celtic christmas 2

and, of course, AND :-))

over the rhine's the darkest night of the year!!!!

my mom really loves christmas music, and i'm ever after new things to add to her collection. any suggestions?

I own 2 Christmas albums... and both of them are extremely embarassing as they are from my teenybopper days:

Hanson's Christmas CD... think it's called Snowed In
'N Sync's Christmas CD

My dad has The Canadian Brass Christmas CDs... we always listen to them when we are putting up the Christmas tree. Gotta love my dad for all that grand jazz and big band music he keeps around the house and I delve into.

Well, if I can download Brian McSweeney singing O Holy Night that would rock... Holy cow..

But my favorites?

George Winston - December
Mannheim Steamroller's CDs
(remarkably the 2 above I heard listening to Rush Limbaugh one December - the guy has good taste)

I have Harry Connick's, I also have a great one from Gold City/Cathedrals (very old, but man, good stuff - accapella Christmas songs rock)

Jars of Clay and Steven Curtis Chapman's are both excellent.

Wish NC would do one, wish Jars of Clay would do another one.

this is funny for me to be posting this but i gotta say...my kenny g christmas cd..lol.

yeah, for some reason i'm already sick of the christmas marketing thing with the all the holiday specials about to come up..and the caroling (which normally i enjoy) but..i think i just feel that many people are just trying to create an emotion or a moment and manufactured emotions and moments are just annoying kinda of like some of those really cheesy moments in movies just to make you say..awww when it really is corny. i know i sound really pessimistic but dont' worry there are some times when its for real that do touch my heart. i just hate the intentional plot for a tearjerker..anywho..hopefully someone understands what i'm rambling about...

thanks for all the suggestions...most of them are already in the ol' collection. we are fortunate indeed.

anyone grow up with evie's, dolly's and alabama's???? i remember hearing (over and over and...) my younger sister imitate the pronunciation of thistlehair the christmas bear. oh my.

a few others that came to my mind later are basics like handel and tchaikovsky. of course, there's nothing to still my mood like the vienna boys choir. wow.

I second the motion for Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Orchestra + heavy metal guitar.....there's something beautiful about that....
*listens to Christmas Eve Sarajevo*

My Christmas collection includes Harry Connick, Jr's and, the all-time fave, Partridge Family Christmas!! Woohoo!! It's a family tradition... nothing like trimming the tree with David Cassidy and Shirley Jones crooning Frosty the Snowman and Blue Christmas in the background!

Seriously, we listened to it on record when I was growing up, and my older sister found it on cd a couple of years ago and gave it to the whole family so that we can all listen to it for years to come!!

(I'm weird, I know... but I love my Partridge family come Christmas-time!)

Also I just got thins one, but It is really great and will probably become one of my Christmas favorites is Cledus T. Judds 'Cledus Navidad' hehe
