Around 6:00 yesterday, my friend and I arrived at the Memorial Union Theatre in Madison to see Nickel Creek. (I have been a fan for ages, and this is the first time that I have seen them live, so my excitement is purposely subdued here for fear of annoying fellow Creekers with ample exclamation points.) They were fabulous. I was really blown away at how relaxed they seemed and really chatty with the audience. They kept talking to the people in the front row about which concerts they had seen and laughing. They sang a bunch of songs, some off the Nickel Creek cd, some off Chris's cd, Sean's cd, and most off This Side. In the middle of the show, Sara started to say that the reason why she kept jumping back from the mic was because she kept getting shocked. Sean agreed with her, and then Chris started teasing them both about how they are both electrical and he never gets shocked. It was so cute. The somehow they went off on the rant for about 2 mintues about how Sean was like the Emperor in the Star Wars movies with lightning coming out of his hands and Chris did an impression of the Emperor singing House Carpenter. Man, it was funny. Anyway, they talked a lot during the show, which was just as great as the music.
Coming out of the show, my friend and I decided that there were too many people waiting around the bus for the guys to come out, so we ducked out for some coffee. On the way back, we passed by the Theatre again, just to see if they were still there, and Sara came right up to us and said Hey, are there coffee places open this late? We about died, but directed her to Cafe Royale to quench her thirst. He he! I didn't get to talk to the other two, but I would have said something horribly dumb anyway, so I am just glad to have seen the concert. I am also going to the concert at the Rave in Milwaukee, so maybe I will get to take a picture with them or something infinitely cool like that. Just thought people might want to know that even in Wisconsin, a really un-cool place, Nickel Creek made the entire state cool for even just being here. I hope everyone gets a chance to see them, it is worth the drive, the money sacrifice, or whatever is stopping you. They are very, very grand.
Peace all. --Tascha
