ok, so everyone has been begging my to put some of my music up- and i finally finished a project i am auctually really happy with-even though it was rushed into 4 days.. on top of finals.. for those people following the home recording thread, this was done in protools with a somewhat rushed mixing job...

this is my current band. i am on- really hopign we stay together for a while...it is called neena, doing some really strange style mixing that hasn't really been done quite this way before... . i am the fiddle player [on baritone] so i occasionally end up picking up bass lines and some of that darol anger chop =Þ. we also have the hand/ ethnic percussion set, sax, acc guitar, and vox.....

so, enjoy, and who knows, you might run into us at a festival or something.....

Maybe it's just me and my stupid computer, but I'm not able to access any of the music files that you linked for us. Is there something I'm doing wrong? ::Sigh:: and you had me all interested and hopeful too... :( I'm sure you'll be able to fix it in a jiffy so I'll just have to remain patient I suppose.

yeah ditto to what he said...the links didn't work for my crappy computer either...but would still love to hear it man. the last stuff was good despite your disclaimer at the sorry recording quality.

crapfully yours,

Well, I'm a member of the Crappy Computer Club, too. Couldn't get it....got the index, but no music. I did get an audio commercial from AOL....

WAIT....as I type, it suddenly begins! Just a few bars.....wait...some more....cuts out...jerky.... Forget it. I'll wait till you cut a cd, Matt!

download the mp3 fully, and then listen... if you try toplay it while downloading over a slow connection, you will only get a second at once. right click save as to do that...

How can you tell when it's downloaded fully? I click on it and nothing happens anywhere on the screen. Maybe I don't wait long enough...

Sounds great. DMB meets Jack johnson meets (?). I really like it. My only suggestion is to go to www.iuma.com or www.mp3.com to mabey get an easier spot to put it up your music so people can listen to it easier, but I didnt have too much trouble hearing it? Sounds great, keep it up

Hey, sorry I had a couple more questions. Did you guys write these songs? and do you have a tour schedule?

jaceyhomen-
try the right click, save as thing matt was talking about. you should get a window that pops up with such-and-such % downloaded on it. when it's done it'll disappear. then go to my computer (at least this is what i do) and go to the file folder you have the mp3s saved in. you should be able to play them from there by clicking on them. that should work...my computer lab cast-off ghetto pc is about as crappy as they come, and i got the mp3s to work.

i hope that helps...if it doesn't, i dunno, maybe matt or someone more computer literate than i can give you better advice[think]

happy listening! [noise]

Thanks for updating the link Matt, I am now able to access your music. I hadn't listened to your music previously, so I had no idea what to expect, and I was overly impressed. I've only downloaded the 2 smaller songs so far because I have dial-up and it takes forever (hey now, why do I hear abundant laughter in the background? Hush!). It is such an interesting mixture of instruments that gives it a slightly folksy, jazzy feel. To me, it kinda sounds like Pat Green's style, with a sax thrown in for good measure. In other words, excellent job (and nice fiddle solo on option after the sax solo). You guys blend together very well, and I definitely look forward to hearing more from you in the future. Let me know when you start opening for NC on their tour! :p

Alrighty, time to tackle the 6.1 meg file now...

P.S. Off the wall observation here: anyone ever listened to Brave Saint Saturn (the side project of five iron frenzy, i believe). Well, their style is totally different, but for some reason, the lead vocalist in BSS groups sounds remarkably similar to yours in Neena. It's probably just me, but as I was listening to it, the similarity struck me.

oh my goodness, Five Iron Frenzy is my favorite band in the entire world! (too bad they're breaking up after 2003 [sob] ) I like Brave Saint Saturn too. I didn't notice it before, but after giving ahab a second listen i do hear a bit of Reese Roper-ish-ness in the vocals. not so much roper's singing style in FIF, but definately the way he sings in BSS.

and i feel your pain regarding dial-up...i'm home from school now and away from my high speed ethernet connection [bang]

I haven't posted here in a long time but am home from school and have LOTS of time on my hands so I thought I'd catch up on things around here. Just wanted to say that the songs sound wonderful to me, Matt. Of course this is just a layman's opinion. Too bad there's no way to listen to this other than sitting in front of the computer. Oh well-let us know when y'all start producing the CD's ;)

you can always rip them onto a cd, and blast them in you car or something...

WIbandgeek just told me you had these samples up - very very cool!!! I REALLY like the song Option.... these songs are so jazzy, but not overly mellow ... and it's so interesting hearing a fiddle and a sax together ... I'll have to have Mom put this on a cd, and I have at least one other friend who I bet will like Neena - she's into the same moody acoustic stuff I am ;)

And the guitarist is amazing! I love a jazz acoustic, with fingerpicking and rhythm; the sax player's great, too. I adore a good sax - and really hate bad sax playing ...

You'll put up more stuff if you can, right??? [noise]

Hey Matt! Awesome stuff. Love the Jazzy feel to ahab.

I actually did burn those onto CD's, along with some other stuff.
Over spring break, I went on a road trip with a bunch of friends, and I had that cd with me. Those songs were mixed in with stuff like Good Charlotte, The Used, MXPX, Mest, and such (that's what the majority of my friends like), and they were very impressed!

You have a a thumbs up from ALL of us. Great Job!

just ignore the vocals that were done in one take... :( we had a deadline and no time to really do a good job on them...

Oh okay! I knew you said they were rushed recordings - so I kind of gave the vocalist a gimme on that one.

And so ya know, I had my Mom listen to the stuff today - and she really liked it too. I start singing along to some of the instrumental parts, and to me, that's always a sign of a good musical part... Or at least a sign of something I enjoy!! And as soon as the stuff was over I wanted to hear it again . . . You guys have GOT to get some more stuff up . . .

It's really strange to have heard a sax and violin together, cuz the afternoon before I listened I had been thinking of ways to redo a song on Train's Drops of Jupiter album, and had thought a violin would sound great on it, and then I started thinking well why not have a violin in the band no matter WHAT the genre. And then I heard this and it seemed SO cool and fitting!! Ah but that's enough rambling for now . . . :P
