Hey all. Like it says in my topic, I got one for christmas. I've been wanting one for so long. Well, yesterday, my dad said something to the effect of the days of santa leaving un-wrapped gifts, is about over :(

Anyway, this morning we were all unwrapping gifts. I really appreciated everything I got although I was a bit bummed that I wasn't going to get a violin. We were just about done, and my mom points to the window behind the tree and said Well look Jess, another present for you. it was about the size of a book *hint lol*. so I unwrapped it and it was a book of violin fingerings and stuff like that. I got somewhat excited to what she said next Oh and there was another present for you somewhere. You'll just have to go find it. well she didn't 'hide' it persay, but i found a big wrapped gift for me. Well needless to say I brought it out and unwrapped the gift, and there it was...my very own violin!!!! :D :D :D [party][noise] My dad was right with what he said yesterday, and i should've known better, knowing my dad [bang]

So I'm just kinda messing around with it, figuring things out. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

Looks like you've had an experience right out of A Christmas Story. Whatcha gonna call 'er?

hey yeah, I have a violin too. I call it 'Emmylou' (I name all of my instruments after people that I think are cool. Hint: Violin-Emmylou, Mandolin-Sara, Alto Saxophone-Seal, and oh yeah, I just named the alto sax this morning.) Know Why?

CAUSE I GOT A BRAND NEW ONE THIS MORNING FOR CHRISTMAS!!!! [party]

I guess this thread should be renamed ' the party for what instrument you got this Christmas' thread. :D

I thought it reminded me of A Christmas Story, too! That was the first thing that crossed my mind.

Well a name... hmmmm. I haven't really thought about that. I think I'll name my violin.. Natalie. I've always liked that name anyway. :D [noise]

I haven't got it yet, but I'm going to get my very own guitar tomorrow, I'm sooooo excited. I was going to buy one off of ebay, but decided to just but a new one. I'm going to call it Sean!

Ashley, I think you'd like my friend, he plays sax and he's absolutely amazing! He plays piano too!

hey! sounds like your friend is cool! My cousin (who is also a member of this forum) her fiancee, plays all of the saxes. He says that the soprano sax is his favorite. I wish I could play soprano sax, but, I ran out of allowance (for ebay, you know) and our jazz band only uses 1 baritone sax, 2 tenor saxes, and 3 (including me) alto saxes. They don't have a clarinet, either. Our jazz director is kind of goofy.

Yeah for everyone who got instruments!!! it's so exciting!! I got a MANDOLIN!! I'm in love with it. does anyone elses fingers hurt a little? mine do but that's ok. I got this book and it said I would eventually form protective callouses(sp) isn't that exciting!! ;) I can't wait until I can play at a decent speed. Good luck to everyone in learning!!

NCDoll, I got my own violin, too! I was soooo excited. I've been wanting one for a VERY long time. I was almost done opening my presents ( one of them was Chris Thile's solo CD ;) ) and there was the violin book. I was kinda puzzled because there was only the book. Then my mom said to look behind the curtian. And there, behind the curtain, was the violin in a bag. Oh, I was sooo happy! I guess I could say Nickel Creek has REALLY inspired me to play. I'm mostly of a woodwind person, so starting to play stringed instruments will be a bit harder for me. I also have my eye on a mandolin! ;) :D

OkieLoveNNC, that's awesome. My mom said that if they had the violin out for me to see, then I would have gone straight to it, and not want to open the other presents.... which would have been true :D lol. I play the clarinet in my school band, so switching over is a little tough, but i think I'm getting the hang of it.

Yeah, same here. But once you get the hang of it, it'll be easy! I'm gonna try to see if I can get some lessons. I think Sara would be a great teacher, don't you? lol :D
