Is anyone here a fan of IIIrd Tyme Out? They are doing a show in my city, so I got tickets because I heard that they were really good and the show is sooo close to where I live. However, I still haven't heard them myself, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about them or their opinion of them. I thought about just going ahead and buying their cd now to get familiar with them but I think it might be nice to hear the music for the first time live.

By the way, the show I am talking about is in Fort Payne, AL on Jan. 24. Is anyone else by any chance going?

IIIrd Tyme Out is an awesome band. If you like bluegrass (which you probably do) then you will love them. I say go ahead and get the cd, you won't be disappointed. [noise]

IIIrd Tyme Out is great. Incredible vocals, solid players. They are one of the premier tradition bluegrass bands out there. Definitely check them out, and get excited about it. Their records are good, check out Grandpa's Mandolin. On Live at the Mac, Medals for Mothers does me in everytime, such a beautiful song.

I come from a big center of bluegrass, so if you like that type of music these are good groups to check out - they tend to be local so it might be a tad hard to get their CDs, but it's worth it:

Fescue
VW Boys
Del McCoury

Well, I had to go to the show by myself b/c my dad got sick and I couldn't find anyone else to go, but that didn't really affect my enjoyment at all. (Although I did wish my dad could've been there b/c he would've loved it.) I sat beside a very nice lady who I ended up talking to quite a bit and then a man came and sat on my other side who I also ended up talking to, so I didn't feel alone at all. And, I found out that they were both at Riverbend when I was; she was there to see Lonestar and he went to the NC show.

Anyway, now about the actual show....
At first when they were introduced I was embarrased for the audience b/c they weren't very enthusiastic sounding at all, the clapping was pretty weak. But, after just one or two songs there was a dramtic change and everyone was clapping wildly and sounded really excited about the show. They did a good mix of styles of songs and of older and newer material. I had listened to their Back at the Mac cd but was still blown away by their playing and harmonies. Wayne Benson's mandolin playing was amazing, much better than you might think just by listening to them on cd (at least from what I've heard). They joked around and picked on each other a lot btw songs too, which also pleasantly surprised me. They signed autographs during the intermission at the merchandise table and I got them all to sign a picture. They were very nice and personable but I didn't really say much to them b/c I'm a big dork and just don't know what to say in situations like that. I bought their newest cd, which is all gospel songs, and Wayne Benson's solo instrumental cd, which will not even be in stores for another week or two. The rest of the show was just as great as the first part, if not better. After it was over they came back for one more song even though they had mentioned that they were going to have to leave a.s.a.p. to get to the next show. It seemed like a lot of the people in the audience were sad to see it over. I believe they won over some new fans.
