Disclaimer: I have a feeling this thread is going nowhere. Or it will make a lot of people think I'm stupid. Oh well.

Who are the people that make these boards the most interesting? I personally like Matt n Chip (duh), NCFreak, Goose, and Jacey.

i don't mean to busrt a bubble but i don't want anyone who won't be mentioned to feel left out and like they don't make things interesting so..thats my buffalo nickel (as opposed to two cents ya know..). maybe i'm alone in this thought but....i just know how the other end works too. love all of you guys..some more than others but..still...you guys..(yeah girls are included in that too...in the south we say guys to mean everyone..not sure if thats how they don't it alli en el norte u oeste....).

for me.. i'd say.. j.marie's, bryan's, bart's, matt's, mandobob, and mandofocus. and what do we have added all together? four fiddle players, three mandolin players, spanish, a car guy, and a board administrator and tons of useful and useless knowledge. i apologize for not mentioning any other talent you may have that i'm not aware of.

I know I don't make things interesting. I can sometimes be entertaining, but I haven't been here long enough to do that. Some posts have mad me laugh out loud to where my family give me odd looks, but what else is new? lol I don't remember whose they were though. But ya know, it's all good.

In all honesty, there's tons of people on here that make this board my most favorite to read. I enjoy coming here even more than the car club lists and boards I belong to. There's many extremely credible people on this board. MandoBob, Dave, Matt & Chip, and others I don't need to mention. I value the fact that y'all are here w/ us every time I log in. Thank you very much for being here.

Stupid? Actually, I thank you for this thread. I enjoy being pointed out. Just as long as it's not in a line-up. Being noticed for being you is awesome!! Heck, darn...when I was little, I used to come home from school, look right at my mother and say, I'm cute.

NCFan4Ever
01-14-2003, 06:06 PM
Ha ha!! When I was little, my mom used to always call me doll. so when we'd go out in public I'd go up to random strangers and just be like hi doll! Course that really has nothing to do with anything, but your comment just reminded me of that...

Melanie....you're not stupid for creating this tread.

The only problem with such a thread is....it could get a little out of hand, and worse...it could give some people hurty feelings.

Sometimes a poster is interesting solely because he or she irritates the heck out of us! And that could come out in a post.

Speaking for myself....I don't need any help to sometimes be snarky when I'm irritated, so a thread like this would tempt me too much. Like the last piece of fudge on a plate.

(off topic....I liked your senior quote suggestions a lot)

Sorry, to double post, but...

Jacey, you're right. Off topic....could you give me the exact definition of snarky? Don't get me wrong...its a great word...I just want to make sure I know exactly what it means before I tell one my friends they are being snarky. : )

Okie, whom were you referring to? If me, then no. I now say, I'm frickin' awesome!! or I'm pretty cool (see above).

Mel, I never knew Bart and Ornot were in my posse, let alone the fact that I even had one. I have been told by many that I look like a fat Emilio Estevez. What about Goose? You're in my posse, aren't ya Goose?

Okie: I think I thought you were talking to me...but you were really talking to NCFreak. Sorry!

NCFreak: Well, it's more like a joint posse between all of you guys. Of course Goose is in it, what was I thinking? What I meant was the group of cynical (in a good way) guys who always make us laugh.

Jacey: Did you make up that word? It sounds just like its meaning. If you did make it up, good job!!

jacey, you've only got one reason to be snarky? i feel bad now..

mine that others attribute to me as reasons why:

american (from foreigners)
southern (from ppl who aren't)
a male (from females)
baptist (from ppl who are and aren't..although i don't see how)
age (the arrogance of youth or something is how that applies..)
conservative (by moderates or liberals)
a McCoy...a rather stubborn clan...how many hatfields do you know? none? that means we got them all so don't trifle with us..hehe.

and number one excuse i find for supposedly being snarky:
its just me.

Goose, Sweetie, you're certainly not a reason for me to be snarky. And you're not irritating. Well, very seldom....

You guys should see the sunrise out my window at this moment. Bright pinks, purples and oranges....gorgeous! Spectacular sunrises and rainbows are little surprise gifts we get from God, to brighten our days, you know. My mother told me this. She also told me that God made guys really cute.....to fool me. Hmmmmm.

So, if an ugly guy asks you out, you see their insecurities as desperation, and don't like them based only on that? Seems kinda shallow to me.

i agree with bryan..what if the guy is openly desperate? what does that say about you? j/k...might have hurt some ppl there. i could be a relativist and say that beauty is defined by the beholder and is different for everyone. look at the paintings of women in the renaissance (yeah i just slaughtered that spelling). most of those women were considered to be beautiful for their time and are generally bigger than today's social thoughts on beauty and the size of a person. one reason for that i believe is that people of larger size were considered healthier because they could fight off sickness and infirmity better. i dunno how thats true or not. while i hate being a relativist what another guy thinks as beautiful in a girl may be completely different than what i think. not to mention character also counts in beauty to me atleast. i apologize b/c i just realized how lately i've been making a lot of comments that might take threads into directions they were never intended to go. not bad areas just more like goose rambling on and on...so sorry you guys.

I must say, she does have a point.

FACT: Women are not attracted to desperation.
FACT: Women are not attracted to insecure.

OK, so it's not a fact, but that is true in most cases. I think if it involves a first time meeting, ie, approaching someone in a bar, all you have to go by is the looks. If you don't like what you see....then...well....

Ugly is defined by the person. Women that I find unattractive (ie ugly. Very universal term) is different than what my friend calls ugly. Like I personally think Sara Michelle Gellar is quite cute. Meanwhile, a friend of mine once told me that he thought she looked like she got hit in the face with a huge pan full of vomit. *shrugs*

DixieMedley
01-15-2003, 05:56 PM
And to add to the attractive women throughout the ages thing... did you realize that the average American woman today is a size 12? And yet, look at our models. That's weird.

Hmmm...hadn't thought of it that way. However, I was also thinking how the fact that she automatically sees ugly people as desperate was unfair to the undesperate ugly people. However, I could be reading her all wrong. If so, I apologize. :)

P.S. Skinny women are ugly. Sara Watkins, Kelly Clarkson...now THAT is the definition of beauty.

Hey now!
No need to go that far!!!
Just 'cause skinny women are over represented in the majority of the media doesn't mean there's cause to rank on them in return. Skinny women are beautiful, too. (At least, I hope so!)
[eek!!]

Edited to add: Not getting angry, just defending skinny women. 'Cause really, if I were upset about people thinking skinny women were ugly, that'd be stupid... 'cause the media obviously doesn't. Just think that comment deserved a reply. :D

Apology accepted!!! :D I guess I should have mentioned(except I really didn't have the time then) that I'm married and now looking for a divorce, having learned the hard way that he only stayed with me out of desperation and then started cheating on me when he found someone better!!!! [eek!!] Now I have a guy 5 years younger that me trying to say that he's completely in love with me, but almost all he ever talks about are his ex's and he's been going around telling everyone that we've already been together!!! Neither of them have any looks, which I can't really criticize, since I don't either(or at least I don't believe I do, since I have practically no hair). With the way I look, no good-looking guy has ever asked me out, and only 2 gross ones have(the one I'm married to, and the one 5 years younger). So it's not a matter of just assuming all ugly people are desperate, it's just in my experience most of the ugly guys seem to be(maybe it's different where you are). Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression earlier!!! [guilty]

don't forget that guys in general are afraid of rejection. yeah, i guess you could count that as insecurity but it doesn't apply for all guys. and girls, whether you think you are pretty or not demand that a guy treat you well. no obviously this isn't for you to be a dictator and never allowing him to forget or mess up, b/c we do that too. but no lady should have to lower her standards for a guy b/c he is the only one currently showing interest. expect him to treat you like a lady. i think though this is an issue better settled while dating. on the counterpoint, he prolly has work and or school or both to deal with and not much economically to maybe spend on you lavishly. but there are ways this can be accomplished w/o a lot or any money. we have this very small park where i live here in woodstock, ga and i had a friend who took his g/f there one night..brought a small cd player/stereo he had from home, a romantic cd (actually it was kenny g christmas..b/c it was christmas) and he told me they just sat there enjoying each other's company and danced everynow and then..just them in that gazebo. maybe its stupid but i thought it was a good idea. just more chris ramblings here...

Oh man, what have I done?? [guilty] I'm sorry, everyone!!! When I posted the Ugly guys are there to delude themselves..... thing, I was having a REALLY bad day, and looking for a way to chear myself up--and ended up trying in the WRONG way, creating an ENORMOUS mess!!! I certainly didn't mean to imply that if you're ugly you're desperate and not worth anyone's time. As for what I said in my explanation I guess I should have mentioned......... yes, I was an idiot for for being so desperate myself. I was 19 when I met him, and had NEVER been on a date before in my life, and now I'm paying for the mistake of taking the first thing to come along. I REALLY should have thought about it more, instead of rushing in head-first.

I know this has all got to make me sound like an awful person. (Trying to keep from [sob] right now) I'm sorry about the whole mess, and if you would prefer for me to take a leave of absence from the board, I'll understand.

WishfulThinking: Don't be so hard on yourself. I don't think anyone was really offended or anything. People are just giving their 2 cents.

Goose: I think that date idea is really sweet. Dating shouldn't be about money, but about having fun with and getting to know the other person. It seems so obvious to me but I think a lot of people miss that.

What the heck is the topic here? Oh yes, interesting people. We all are interesting, of course, in our many different ways. Some of the most interesting people I have met were met on a message board. People who have become my friends, people I am fond of --having never actually met them!

I think Matt and Chip are extremely interesting and could tell us, if they had more time to spend with us, a lot we don't know, little vignettes we would enjoy, war stories of being on the road, backstage/inside bits of fun we would suck up like spaghetti (my anologies get a little weird some days.....sorry).

Huh...a spanish posse name....Oh

The Three Amigos

You could wear the little outfits. 'My little buttercup'

The looks thing....
Confidence and a proud bearing draws women like nothing else. If you don't have confidence...fake it. It works every time. As for looks, We unconsiously have a beauty scale in our heads, and we are usually drawn to members of the opposite sex that have aprx. the same rating as ourselves. I did not make this up..I had a class that covered it last semester. Not to say, average looking people cannot admire or long for really good looking people. We just are more likely to settle down with someone that matches our beauty rating.

What was this thread about? It wasn't the posse...or ugliness.

Oh yeah. Favorites...well, being a teacher (future teacher) I am real good at choosing favorites :D ! By the way, I got my name Missem because my students call me Miss Emily. I personally like to read posts made by J marie, because I really like her perspective. She really knows how to say what I am thinking.[think]

i think cabro'n is perfect for what you're trying to say...but the plural version needs an e and to lose the accent. it should be, los cabrones sarca'sticos. i think it's a wonderful title. so let your first album be self-titled, k?

names in school....hmmm. i actually have so many. my students most recently have taken to calling me sen~orita jamal. or just jamal. when they first entered in august, on the board they saw, j. m. hall etc. with room number and all that so they could be sure they're in the right place (missem: does the name harry wong mean anything to you? :) ). so jamal it is. which is particularly fun b/c i'm a pale, blondish sort but with soooooul.

other ones: senorita hallay, hallisha, senorita heezey. forsheezy miss heezy. i don't have them call me miss marie b/c that's what so many friends--specifically men call me--sweetly out of that treat her like a lady thing. and it's nice aliteration i guess. all the little kids i care for also call me that. i don't consider my dear high schoolers to be the same :) also the first name issue is a little too close since my students are only around 10 years younger...and i look _very_ young. i don't want to encourage more familiarity than they already feel. i'm thrilled that we get along so well, that they can come to me for things. they talk to me about so much. but i'm still their teacher, and when i have to enforce rules, it would be too confusing for the students i think.

wishfull thinking, i'm guessing from your god bless you that you believe in god (and that he created you). if you do and you think he's omniscient, omnipotent and perfect, i hope you'll agree that he doesn't make errors. you are not an error...not any part that is essentially you.

granted, we all should take care of ourselves and care for all that we are given. but in a very general sense (don't even _want_ to get into the theological implications and then all the surrounding issues we could call forth), i have a simple faith that you along with me (and the rest of us) need not be ashamed of how we were created to be and look.

i also believe that it's easy to deceive ourselves (or be deceived by evil) with images and comparisons...i know i fall prey to it like any other. but the more i think about it, the more i know it's folly.

as for security: it's real when it comes from a source that's real. if i base mine on mere appearances (and the perceptions of them) to and from imperfect people, all of that will fall apart. but if i base it on what god says about me, i'm more likely to believe something sturdy and true. my security...my safety is firm. it has a foundation unlike the comments passing to and fro with our unclean lips.

another thing that helps my perspective is to be focussed outward. looking at myself too much ladens me with disease (call it sin, self, humanism...whatever) in a sense. it all gets distorted regardless of what i really am or really see. but if i look outward and UPward, the vista grows into its eternal longing...to vastness instead of emptiness and beauty instead of rot...to perhaps what it was created to be.

This certainly proves the point that we are ALL interesting! I mean, I stay offline for a couple a days, and look what happens!

WishfulThinking: Listen to Jacey....no one on these boards take themselves THAT seriously.

NCFreak: Well, I think that guys from Nebraska are ugly! Ha ha, just kidding....but if you ever meet *My* skinny self you will be thinking twice about your skinny girls are ugly comment. Ha ha, just kidding again. Also, I love that Garfield comic! But my favorite one is this one where Garfield draws a mustache and glasses on the bathroom mirror and then John looks in it and he like, freaks out!! It's hilarious.

Posse: That's a great name for you all!

A boy band? WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I leave for several days (evil internet) and come back to find myself in a boy band. Hmmm...does that mean I have to start wearing Abercrombie & Fitch and frosting my hair? Just curious! :D

And J.Marie....I had no idea that I reeked of maturity....I've been wondering what that smell was that just won't go away. My heart-felt thanks go out to you for pointing it out! :-))
