I'm a San Deigo too....and I totally agree that's you'll love it! The camp is AMAZING, but prepare to go on a serious sensory-overload.....you learn so much in three hours that by the end of the first day you feel like you'll simply explode!! .......and there is still 4 more days to go!! :)
It's SOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo great~!!!!!!!!!![noise]

Yahh I might go to the Nashville one since that is where I live. What fiddle players will be at the Nashville camp? What fiddlers at the San Diego camp?

Find the list of instructers at www.markoconnor.com in the Fiddle camp section. In my humble oppinion, the San Diego teachers play circles around the Tenesse guys this year....but that just be me. :)
However, if you're hoping to go to Tenn. sorry to break it to you, but they've been sold out since WAAAAY back. REgistration opens January 1, and Tenn. is usually sold out within three weeks or so. :( Sorry to say so.......

I have several close friends that are going to be there... and i think Nat might be an instructor there... need to double check on that...

No, I don't play the violin in any style, but my mother in law is very well known there and teaches/judges at their major competitions.

you would either have to freeload in off an instructor- or know one of 3 people who cover registration... and that said- they are waaaay over extended... i know a 7 year allumni that had a lot trouble getting in because she was late [in feb.] . they just have way too many people this year.
what you got to do is have a maining party on dec 29th when registration opens up...
so best of luck to you.. just dont' count on being able to walk in
So how exactly are you sposed to join? I want to go next summer.
Thanks Day

i believe the nashville camp is over now, right? how was it? (if anyone who went still posts on here) i just found this thread. anyway i talked to sara after a show and she recommended this camp to me. i'd heard of camps before but never really seriously considered it (i thought you had to actually be good :p) i'd love to go but if that's how fast they sell out.... probably not going to happen. oh well.

Yeah, the Tenn. camp is over....it always happens in late June. San Diego is in ONE WEEK, (much to the delight of my fiddle friends and I!) but that's probably not enough time to make all the arrangements, although I DO hear that there's still space in the camp...........
Try for next year. If you want Tenn. then make sure you print your application BEFORE January 1st and send it in so it arrives on the 1st or 2nd. The june camp sells out so fast, it's not even funny. San Diego, on the other hand, has more space to work with, so you can chill about getting your papers in. I've sent my app. in like MAY and still had no problems (although I am admittedly on the pushing it side of things....).
Hope to see you there!

I went to the TN camp and it was SOOOOO much fun. I got to meet all kinds of fiddlers. Stuart Duncan was there! Oh my goodness it was so much fun meeting him. I didn't know he was going to be there till about 2 hours before his concert, so I was so excited. He is one of my BIGGEST heroes. :) I got a picture with him and talked to him for a while. It was so incredible. I have scholarship money to use again and I think I might be going back to TN next year. :)

yeah, i've only heard Stuart Duncan on Not All Who Wander are Lost but that was enough to make me think he is AWESOME :) that's cool you got to meet him!
i'm really thinking about going, except for the fact that i would have to figure everything out pretty early to register in january. i don't know if i'll know by then what my summer is going to be like. well i'll see i guess.

I'm signed up for the Prarie Home Companion e- mail and on the PHC site I saw that on the 16th they are going to have a repeat from last December and that Mark will be playing with the GASSB.

it gets better each year.. hard to believe.. matt glaser is a great teacher..
claude williams [who started his recording carreer in the early 20's- think about that pretty much the start of the recording bis] is 95 years old, and still swinging.. man- that guy has seen it all.. wow. totally speechless inregards to him and his playing...
also, the head guy at julliard was an instructor.. and was really positive about the alternative styles.. such a change in the tide to have the the top classical institution in the world accepting our music. so neat to be stuck in the middle of the changes and to see the new generation of players it is putting out.
a lot of new people this year, but quite a few old friends were there, so the normal jamming groups kept up.

AHEM! Juliard? Try one of the top classical institutions..., or even top....in the USA. It isn't as if we have anything as prestigious as the ROYAL ACADAMY OF MUSIC over here or anything......... [think har

Lol!! Watch out Matt.....the classical world is touchy about topping institutions, especially when dealing with big fish like Juilliard!! The Royal Conservatory ain't nothing to shake a stick at...... I actually almost ended up there myself last year.....
