I feel like such an idiot because its prolly something really obvious and Im just being dumb again, anyway...at some point in raining at sunset there's this part...and its an instrument. and it sounds like cow bells.
what is it?
I'll post the time later if no one picks up on what I'm saying....my CD is in my stereo, in my room. I am at the puter, in the parlor, cold...not moving....
but that thing really does sound like cow bells! and its kind of in the middle of this part and right after it the fiddles kind of like BOOM! its really cool but Raining at sunset sounds like a cow calling song now, what the heck is that?

I guess I would describe it as very rapid up and down pick strokes on a string or strings, a string in this case that makes a sound like your playing a note very fast or like it sounds on the CD someone ringing a cow bell very rapidly. It's used a lot in bluegrass.

i think its a picking effect on mandolin of moving the pic really fast over usually one string.. many times you have this in italian music with mandolin in it. so i'd say think of typical italian music to understand, like the godfather maybe...its also done in blugrass and i'm sure in various other styles...lemme just let someone more knowledgable in this area like mando bob or someone answer...ha

Yeah they use it in Italian music too. If you hear someone play something like Bury Me Beneath the Willow in a traditional bluegrass style they might tremelo some of the notes.

Thank you for bringing that up. I haven't noticed it on Raining at Sunset, but I definately noticed something like that on my live recording and couldn't figure out what it was. That makes sense because they obviously didn't have bells on stage. Now I know. Thanks!
