John Mayer, Mr. Potty Mouth himself, is the artist of the month on launch.

Does he swear in the videos? If not I will watch. I really do like his songwriting. I love how he plays on words and his themes. I just wish he was someone I could respect a little more.

Indeed. It definitely doesn't make him the horrible person you all seem to make him out to be... it's especially unfair for those who haven't heard his music yet.
But hey, to each his own I suppose...

YES for some people it is THAT IMPORTANT. The judgement they are making isn't an uninformed one based upon hearsay but upon what the guy himself has said. A person, whether they care or not, is responsible for what they say and possibly how people might judge that person based upon their own words or actions. Obviously people who don't care about this fact, aren't going to be bothered then by these posts that apparently he uses some language in his pieces, but there might be some here who are. It is similar to the review a more notable bluegrass press group gave This Side. I don't remember exactly who but it was posted here before. In the review, the author makes mention that the word hell is used twice. This author did not say whether that was appropriate or not, but just made mention b/c it is offensive to some people. And while we learn more about the meaning of Speak, we learn (if I was correct) that the way Sean used hell was different than previously conceived.
Yes, Bryan and others did voice their opinion against Mr. Mayer's use of language but throw me a freakin' bone here, they have that right to disagree and voice their opposition (as do you all in opposition to their opposition...). Only five posts have been made on the subject yet there are numerous posts, most w/replies in the 30's and 40's, with less meaningful topics while people fail to come out in opposition against these that in some cases are of clear irrelevance. For example, the Sting posts annoy the tar out of me (yes tar). I don't give a flying flip about it, but someone here (someone besides Desert Rose hehe) may being reading that with interest as may others reading this thread about John Mayer. Also, Missem even went as far as to mention things she DID like about him and didn't make him out to be a horrible person. Only that she didn't care for his language in some cases and equated that with, in her opinion, less respect of him.

On another thread, that had the title about John Mayer and bad language, I didn't post because I read it and just thought it wasn't a big deal.
This thread started out the same way, but I didn't write anything at first. But this thread soon turned into John Mayer's language, and not about him being the artist of the month at launch.com. so i just decided to write what I thought. That it wasn't a big deal that what language he uses. I do feel the same way about other posts of course...and try to ignore them or try not to offend anyone. (there are lots of certain posts that seem to be one sided on, and yes I am also pretty annoyed with them too.) When i decided to reply I didn't want to go into a long discussion and tried to be as nice as possible so that I wouldn't offend or be hurtful to anyone. Just that I thought that I'd state my opinion like other people here are. So Sean used the word hell in his lyrics, its sad that it had to explained that he didn't mean it in that way so that people would stop thinking that it was a bad thing. It was his choice to use whatever he wanted to use, why should he have to seem to apoligize?
And I don't remember posting something along the lines of please do not voice a negative opinion about John Mayer here, please, because you have no right to voice your opinion. But that it was my opinion that it shouldn't matter that his language be that big of a deal because most of the song on his Room for Sqares album is without bad languge anyway, unless you really want to go around disecting his lyrics and pointing out lyrics like, Your body is a wonderland (oh my) And that i thought that it didn't really matter that he says certain things...
(and i'm sorry that it wasn't all clear)
my god, all of this for a man's use of language...
I will anticipate your response of course...

I think if John were to read this thread, all he might say is (in a sarcastic sing-song voice)
Sorry that you took offence to my ungoddly reference...:p

I don't.
Oh, and I never took offense too anything he said. In fact, I've never even heard the guy talk. I can understand why it would bother someone, though. I also think talking like that on stage in front of hundreds of people who have paid to hear you lacks class. Potty mouth was just a referrence to another thread. E-Kat thought that one up.

Wow!
I have been off of the boards for awhile and I missed this whole thing! By the way...a little clarification.
I like John Mayer
I have his CD Room For Squares
I have heard he uses profanity during his concerts, therefore I do not wish to go to one. That is my choice and I do not begrudge anyone who chooses differently.
As to using profanity on CDs...it is their music and we do not have to purchase and or listen if we do not want to.
As for Sean's use of 'hell.' That is totally different. First of all the conotation is different as well as the context. Second, Sean dosen't have anything to apologize for. Aside from that, neither does John. That is just my personal choice not to subject myself to that language.
By the way, I skip the wonderland song simply because it distracts me from God. I do not think badly of those people who listen to it.
Everyone clear? Any questions...comments....lashing out? HA HA
By the way Bryan...I have actually seen a video on Launch that includes John's mouth. I stopped listening early on, so maybe it was just one wordy dird

And I can respect this. I do, in fact, tremendously. Rock on. :)
