We are thinking of going (myself & Guesswho_Chick and our family) but not sure of the hotel situation up there since we found out the dates rather late ... At this point considering driving & just finding the closest hotel we can - if we can't find any may be able to make it all the way home before we fall asleep :) Any recommendations on lodging situations? We are about 4 hours away

AND if anyone going to this is wanting to sign the florida petition (see All Florida Fans Please Read or Disappointed Florida Fan), please feel free to talk to people at this Fest (or any other bluegrass fest, or jam session, or where ever) and try to get people interested to sign. We have ten so far . . .

sorry but that was the hardest part was finding some lodging.. We're in Tampa so we definetely needed to get some lodging, but I can't be of any help, we got ours by sheer luck.
Also, I am going to talk about bringing Nickel Creek back for sure
AND, My family is listed on the Main Page! (Pinkham Family Band and Friends) and for the Mando Workshop my little 13 yr old brother is listed BEFORE Mike Marshall, Steve Pruett and my dad LOL so he's walking around the house saying how he got top listing (joking of course ;)) Just thought I'd share (gloat :p)

Thanks for the tip. We actually live in Polk County - kind of between Kissimmee and Davenport - not far from you at all, so I guess that means that we will have to find lodging as well .. *sigh* Times like these makes you think about getting an RV :)
Congrats to your brother for the top billing hee hee .. he has every right to brag!!! LOL

the workshop was AWESOME, it was Mike Marshall, Steve Pruett, my brother Josh and my father Jeff, my brother was soo stoked because he FINALLY got to do Descendo a serra (a Brazillian choro from Mike's Brazil duets CD) with someone doing Rhythm so my brother and Mike did that first, then Mike did some technique pointers and just talked a bit and was very informative, then my father gave some pointers on When you're in a jam.. in a Jam on soloing, then they all jammed with my grandfather Jerry Thomason playing Tenor Guitar and they decided to finish with a Florida Mando Jam with some other Floridian mandolin players (including Tim Higgins and Greg Turner from Valla, Turner and Williamson) for 2 last tunes. It was really really fun.
The Duhks were there from Canada as well and I had never heard of them and had met Tania Elizabeth earlier that day, and let me tell you, she is an awesome fiddler, and the whole band is really cool. They're up for a Juno (equivalent to a Grammy in Canada).
My father and brother played with Jim Lauderdale Friday and it was SO funny because they all started doing a song they had rehearsed with Josh BEFORE Josh came out, so when Josh came out they did a song he TOTALLY didn't know and Jim looked at him to solo and Josh would do a little bit and stop and Jim would look at him to keep going after Josh (my brother) had already ended, so Josh would start up again. I swear he did at least 5 mini solo's before Jim came back in LOL!
Mike Marshall (mando), Darol Anger (fiddle) and Rushad Eggleston (cellist) were AWESOME as always, they did Gator Strut and with the cello it was soo awesome, and they did a medley of fiddle tunes amazingly, also they did one of Rushad's MANY songs he wrote, this one called Lurking on a Planet and that was very, very cool. Also they invited Aoife O' Donovan, Rushad's girlfriend to come up and sing one song for them and they did Wayfaring Stranger, and Aoife has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, (and she's a very sweet and intelligent person to boot) so it was an awesome show. I love Mike and Darol and Rushad so that was one of the BIG highlights for me!
All in all to shorten my already lengthy review, it was an awesome show.. but probably one of the proudest moments was when my dad and I were talking backstage to Bryan Sutton (the guitarist from Not All Who Wander.. as well as countless other great albums) and his friend the fiddler from Earl Scruggs came out from the artist tent and said, Hey, you heard that kid in there playing mandolin? (my brother Josh) and Bryan just nodded and said That's Josh EEK! It was so cool! I was very proud  but I had such a great time and I'm super anticipating MerleFest, thanks for sitting through my bragging review :p
