AWESOME!! Not that bad a drive either!! Where'd you find out?

I just saw it on their schedule list. It's on May 15th at 9:30 pm. I might try to make it. I REALLY want to, but my parents won't think it is the best idea for me to make a two hour trip, in the dark, to somewhere I've never been, coming back to the place I would have only been living at for a few days...alone. I, however, think it's a brilliant idea. Plus it would save me all of the money it would have cost to drive to Myrtle Beach, House of Blues. That's the angle I'll go for...it's economical. :D

Hehe, thought you all would be excited. I'm really, REALLY gonna try to make it. My sister and I are going to convince my parents in just the right way. Maybe I could give them a sappy story about how a Nickel Creek concert would make me feel better about moving away from home.
Guesswho_Chick
03-20-2003, 02:51 PM
LOL!!
I could start a petition to get you to come!! :D Rotfl!
I really hope you can make it - let me know if you can!! We'll be hanging around after the show I'm sure so it'd be cool to get to meet you! Where are you moving to instate??
And what makes you think I'm excited??!! *starts spinning around the room uncontrallably* [eek!!] [noise] [sob] :D hehehehehe
I've never been to a show before!!!!!!!!!!

OK, my sister and I created a master plan...Knowing that there is absolutely NO WAY my parents would allow me to go by myself, my sister and I decided that we would have to convince them that I needed somebody to stay with me for a week to get myself settled. My sister was obviously the perfect candidate, so they agreed (1st victory). Then, my sister told my parents that she would feel better driving back to Ohio with a friend, so our friend Amy was the perfect candidate (2nd victory). After all of this was planned, I *just happened* to find out that our beloved Creek would coincidently be playing in Orlando, and wouldn't that just work out nicely for my sister to drive so I could get some sleep before school the next day (ultimate victory)...HA! So, after some strategic maneuvering, looks like I will be able to make it. Anyway, to answer your question Guesswho_chick, I'm moving to Gainesville. And I'm so excited for you...your FIRST show! I hope it will be General Admission, we plan on getting there early to hang around Disney.

Just like all of you, I am totally psyched about this new upcoming show! Never did I expect to see them perform a show in my backyard. (Well, not my backyard literally, unless I had a really large backyard, but you get the idea.) I'm going to see if I can get some of my friends to go with me too since it's so close and we can all just ride together or go separately. This will be my first Nickel Creek show too, which makes it doubly exciting.
Oh, and linzee, you may be a little unfamiliar with all the Disney parks here and how they work. HOB is in Downtown Disney, which has free admission and free parking, but there will obviously be a ticket price to see the show. Downtown Disney/Westside is separate from other parks though, which have their own admission prices. IMHO, not much to do at Downtown Disney though, it's mainly just gift shops, but you could still spend enough time walking around for an hour or so just browsing I suppose. Definitely not something you'd spend all day at though.
But anyway, you'll enjoy it here, and I'll probably see you at the show. I can't wait! :D

yay Linzee!!! Good form!!!!! :) Downtown Disney is mainly shops, but is lots of fun to go through!! And there is a candy shop here, mmmmmmm . . . . :P Just depends on how much of a sucker you are for the mouse or Pooh - you may turn into a giddy four-year old sentimental child. Be warned. But I love it!! :) And Gainseville should be cool!!
Glad you're coming too Jeremy!!! Yay - another first-showee!! hehehehe The show is only like five miles from my house - YES!!!! Soo soo soooooo happy!!!!! :)
Are General Admission Tickets better?? My Mom's not sure where she wants to sit - cuz she likes to sit down so she doesn't think she wants standing room only (although I'd love that)...

And Linzee - my Mom reminded me - you need to check out George's guitar store in Downtown Disney - they have tons of signed pics from artists there- very very cool!! :) Wonder if NC'll sign something?? That would rock!! :D

We talked to House of Blues today. Tickets will be General Admission - no reserved seating.
Tickets will be $20.50 ... available at HOB Box Office and Ticketmaster. We will be getting ours first thing in the morning - they go on sale tomorrow at 10 am at the box office, not sure about ticketmaster - as Mandofingers just mentioned :)
Also - - wanted to let any of you going to this one who has not been to House of Blues before to get there a bit early if you can and tour the extensive Folk Art collection they have there (all around the place, outside, in the concert hall - all over) - some very astounding stuff. We recently took a tour with some other HomeSchooling families of their art collection & some of the stories behind these artists are just amazing.
Cya'll there :)

I thought I'd use my first post to tell you that I've just bought tickets for the HOB show in Myrtle Beach....and since I live in England I shall be travelling a few thousand miles to see the band!
I saw NC here in Bristol last month, and they blew my socks off, so to speak. It's fantastic that their gig is coinciding with our trip to the Carolinas.
I've also just booked a night at the one star hotel near the HOB - should be interesting :)
Just out of curiousity - could this be the furthest anybody has ever travelled to see the band?

And I thought my upcoming 9 hour trip was impressive! The Myrtle Beach HOB is awesome, and so is the area around it. There is a fudge shop where these guys sing about the people in the store while making fudge that you should look for. It should be a really fun trip.

Hey Hey,
Just in, NC going to be in St. Petersburg on 5/13. Anybody going to the Orlando concert thinking of making their concert experience a twosome? I'm really tempted!!
*edit* I didn't see any ticket info. It might be a closed event. I'll keep checking.
*edit again* Jannus Landing hasn't added them to their site yet either

Doubt I'll go to both shows - but if ya do - have fun!!! Yay!! TWICE in Florida!!!! :D

You know I have been thinking. Nickel Creek is in central florida May 13 thru May 15, and the Matrix opens May 15. And I think I heard that the band enjoyed the first movie.
So I am thinking that it would be cool to go see the Matrix with the band.
I have been to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings opening day or night showings with big groups and they were a blast.
I know that there is virtually no chance of this happening but I figured I would mention it to see if anyone can think of a way to make this happen.

Hey Faramir;
I kind of thought of the same thing - although I didn't think of intentionally seeing it with the band .. I just thought there was a chance of seeing them hiding out in the theater somewhere before the concert catching the movie too :)
We are thinking about making it full day by catching the movie at AMC 24 at Downtown Disney, I'm sure they'll have it - that's our regular theater that we go to & where we saw LOTR on opening night - it's just right across from HOB so it would be convenient. I just think we'd have to do it as a matinee because everyone would probably be too excited after the concert to sit still for a movie.
We were just saying that we wouldn't be a bit surprised to see the band sitting in the dark before the show as well catching the flick .. LOL.
Let me know if you decide when you are catching the movie - maybe we'll see ya there as well :)
I think our plans may be - Matrix - dinner at HOB - then concert!! :)
We went over to St. Pete today as well to check out how long the drive would be with all the construction and any hotels in walking distance - we haven't made a decision yet about that concert but I'm attaching a photo of the billboard .. the kids were excited to see it :)

I was going to make dinner, but my fish isn't even at home...oh well, I'd like to say, you know how amusing it would be if Nickel Creek went to see the Matrix & for some odd reason, before the movie, they played the video to speak? LOL...maybe that's just amusing to me?

Can you believe it, in one week from today, Nickel Creek will be playing for us!?!! I know I'm certainly excited about this as I'm sure you all are too. The only problem is that HOB doesn't allow cameras which really sucks, and I don't understand their logic either since NC doesn't mind pictures of them. The security actually pats you down and uses a metal detector wand on everybody before you can enter. They take your cameras and keep them until after the show  Maybe some of you girls could hide them well in your purse -- that would be my suggestion to you. I've been trying to think of a way around the system, but I haven't come up with any feasible ideas yet...
I was there a few days ago to see Jason Mraz in concert (which really rocked by the way), but every now and then, all I could think of was seeing Chris, Sara, and Sean on stage just mere feet away from me playing away on their instruments. It really made me excited for next Thursday's show. Hope to see you all there!

I've been too 3 there (I think.. maybe more I've forgotten) and it's a very laid back relaxed enviroment. The sound is pretty good and you can easily move around to wherever you feel most comfortable viewing from. It's an outdoor stage, but if you want to go inside for a little bit there is a little bar/building on the grounds past the stage that's got comfy couches :p I like it alright

Just got back from the Jannus Landing show.
It was, of course, awesome. They had some sound issues so they took a break and came back to finish the show around a single mike.
Looking forward to seeing them at House of Blues.

Glad to hear the show last night was good :) Can't wait till tomorrow night here - a head's up though, they are saying there is a possibility of rain so anyone planning on waiting outside early - be sure to bring your umbrella :) Or - plan on hanging out in the Candy Cauldron till the doors are open!! LOL
I was also wondering if anyone on the board is planning on trying to catch the show at the Freebird Cafe in Jax Beach in June? We may depending upon how the show goes tomorrow night & our schedule for June. May have to delay a trip to New England to catch the one in Jax Beach - but it would be a cool excuse to spend a night on the ocean anyway so it may be worth it. :) Anyone familiar with Freebird's camera policy? I'm not risking bringing my Nikon to HOB - don't feel like having it held & then not be there afterwards :( ... but I was thinking Freebird might be a bit more lax on the policy .. anyone know what's it like there?
Thanks

Jannus Landing was great.. Although, Chris was very much vexed by the sound issues, and then he was very obviously ticked off at the crowd while he was trying to do House Carpenter.. he was doing his intro and kept looking very intensely at this group of talking people and he several times made the impression he was going to just stop playing it and walk off.. I mean at one point on another ballad they were all playing he lifted his head towards the crowd and mouthed shut up. and Sara just turned and real sweetly went SHHHHH and everyone sort of calmed down. I felt very sorry for him. The sound issues were a big thing and they after their 20 min break to try and remedy it just decided that they had to do more than half the show standing around one single mic Grand Ole Opry style to minimize all the technical difficulties.. everyone was gasping when there was a near bow to the eye or a headstock to the head since they were literally squeezing around each other, so that was definetely a new aspect of excitement at an acoustic show. They did a bunch of new stuff that I loved including Crooked Jack, Locking Doors (about Melvin from As Good as it Gets..this was one of my favs), The song which Sean said was written by Chris and I.. basically about when your friend's on crack and you wish they weren't.... quite literally actually, and one other song that I can remember at least that was from a short story by James Joyce that my sister had read.. Sean and Sara to try and diffuse the sound situation while Chris was very mad, did the song from Disney's Robin Hood where the chorus goes But not in Nottingham and that was nice. I was soo happy to finally see them live but I finally saw what all you guys were saying about the obnoxious people in the crowd. It was definetely affecting the band and especially Chris. Might be a novel idea... but I wish people would just go to a concert to LISTEN, and not as an outlet to scream and holler and say SARA real loudly. JMO. Not to be negative or anything, it really was a fantastic show and despite them all being frustrated they played amazingly and all you guys will have a blast in Lakeland and Orlando :)

Morning everyone,
I am pumped about tonight's show. I was at the Janis Landing show and I'm not completely fixed. Tonights dose of the Creek should do the trick for a while anyway.
I noticed in the thread that several folks were discussing catching the Matrix before or after the show. I had a chance to catch a sneak preview last night. Be forwarned that there is a pretty graphic sex scene about 15 minutes into the movie that lasts way longer than it should. If you have kids with you or you're just not into that kind of thing, you may want to make other plans. Just thought I'd give you guys a head's up.
The one thing I really like about the NC scene is that you can see a 10 year old grooving alongside a 60 year old. Not many places that can happen in today's society.
Faramir
05-16-2003, 12:46 AM
And again, I'm in with the the first post after a show.:D
This show was just as good as or better than the Jannus Landing show because they did not have any sound problems. Plus we got them back for a second encore where they did some acoustic stuff.
I was slightly disappointed that they did the same set but it was still just as enjoyable.
The crowd was good at Jannus Landing but the crowd at House of Blues was awesome. They kept quiet in the quiet parts, got into the fast stuff, and wouldn't let the Band leave till they did two encores.
My brother and I got there early and were able to secure a good position right in front of sean about 5 feet from the stage. Where was everyone else standing at? This was important this time becase they did the no mike thing.
We hung around afterward and I got a picture with Sara and Chris signed my brothers mandolin. I got to talk to Mark Schatz, who was playing bass with them, for a little while because not many people seemed to recognize him.
So overall this has been a very good week, 2 nickel creek shows, the matrix, and now I'm off for two gigs in Georgia.

Man, someone beat me to the post! lol, You must have been right behind me. I was right infront of Sean, right at the stage. It was an incredible show. This being my first live show, I think I'm hooked. And like Sara said, Holy monkey The crowd was awesome as well. A few annoying people, but what show isn't without one or two. And the two encores and unplugged part was great.
I also stayed after and was able to sneak a pic with Sean and Chris. Sara had already disappeared. But talking with Sean and Chris was nice. And that dag gum no camera policy. I would have had some nice pictures in the show. Alrighty, tis 2:00am and still wired about the show. Will have to elaborate more on the show when I get some sleep.
Looking forward to the Jax. show now. :)

Ah! Jeff and mandofingers - you must have been right by me the whole time! I was the girl right in front of Sean - totally awesome seats for my first show!! Man when they did that acoustic set, and Sean was standing right above me, I felt like I was getting a private guitar lesson!!! :D
The show was incredible - especially once the band really started to get into it!! They did almost all of my favorite songs of theirs (except for Young and Warmth of the Sun *I know WoS isn't their's, but I was hoping they'd do it...) I was SO happy they did Beauty and the Mess, Sabra Girl, Green and Gray, Smoothie, the little taste of Lithium, and Chris' Locking Doors! Light House was amazing *loved Coldplay in it! I was wondering how he fit that song in....*, House Carpentar was much creepier love *almost overwhelming, very cool*...and I was SO glad to see Mark was the bassist at this show!!!!!!! Spit on a Stranger was fun too, the crowd got quite into doing the backup!!! :)
hehe - I loved when they came out for the second encore - the crowd was so loud for so long, Sara looked at the audience and then at the band like we were all crazy!! :) And it was pretty cute too, how she was laughing during Move that Mountain, cuz we had all been cheering so much for Mark... :) Did anyone catch exactly what she said when she was talking about the slide going into the water and stuff? I couldn't quite understand her...
Very awesome show, and I met some great people off this board there! Made it even more fun! Had Sara sign my ticket, and Mark and Chris sign my guitar, but I managed to miss Sean, even though I was standing right behind him outside  I need to be more observant, and uh, remember to bring a Sharpie next time ... [splat] hehe
Eek! Probably am rambling, but I'm still really excited and have hardly stopped smiling! Totally great night, all the way to watching the lunar eclipse, and having fans jam outside... :) Very nice!!
So how many people are going to Jacksonville now?

Hi everybody!
I'm a new member of the board, but I've been lurking for a little while. :) I've been a huge Nickel Creek fan for quite some time now, and was blessed to see them (for the first time!) on Thursday night in Orlando. Wow!! What a show. Words can't express how amazing it was.
(By the way, I was standing on Sean's side, as well -- it seems like several of us were in the same general area!)
I was wondering -- did anyone manage to get a setlist or jot it down?
Take care and God bless!

Glad you enjoyed the show as well. Yeah it does sound like we were all in same spot. I was tempted to ask around and see if anybody was familiar with this site, but I kept getting side tracked. :)
The guy that was beside me was able to jump on the edge of the stage enough to grab Seans song list. I was unable to sneak a peak at it though. But I saw that it was at least a page and a half long. And with the show being 2 and a half hours. I belive it. I managed to go home and jot down all the ones that I remembered them playing. I have 20 listed so far. But there were a couple that I was unfamiliar with.

Hi mandofingers!
Thanks so much for replying. :) I'm sure I was probably right behind you, or close to it....I was standing in that little space in between the stairs and the speakers. LOL
I love going to shows at that HOB, because it seems like no matter where you stand, you have an awesome view! It was exciting to see so many people turn out for the show. The enthusiasm was electric!
Anyhow, that's cool that the guy by you was able to snag Sean's set list! Lucky fella. :)
You did better than I did at remembering songs! Which ones did you write down?
Glad to meet another NC Florida fan! Take care!

Wow! That whole area must have been the nc info area or something ... wierd ... :) I was right next to the guy who grabbed the setlist, on his left side...You're very right Kim - the crowd was definately electric! Although it was great, cuz I was able to tune out most of the crowd and focus on the music - hardly any distractions since the only people in the audience near me were also really into it - very cool!!!
Next show we should all wear dogtags or something to identify each other!! :p

Hello Guesswho_chick! I think you're right about where we were all standing being the NC info area! Very cool. Cute idea about wearing identification, too. heehee! Kind of like name tags...'Hi, I'm so-and-so. :) I hope that NC will come back to central Florida sometime soon....maybe the NC info Florida group could meet up then. That would rock!
I still can't get over that brilliant unplugged/no mic's set that NC did at the end of the show.....goose bumps galore!!! Heck, the entire concert was breathtaking beyond belief. It was such a treat to have witnessed it.
Were you wearing sunglasses on your head, by chance? If so, I remember you! :)

Hello back Kim!! :) Makes sense we were all in the same area - I think since we're all pretty into the band, we were all in line earlier and then all got to get awesome places in front! LOL - with those tags, we'd all look like we were on a field trip or something  hehe
Yeah - that second encore was absolutely amazing!! It was just too much fun, how the crowd was doing the backup vocals to Spit on a Stranger!!! [noise]
Nope! No sunglasses on my head! I was wearing pink shorts, had a black fanny pack, and a white t-shirt, and was pressed right up agaist the stage...were you by any chance with the girl who came up to the front for Be Thou My Vision???
Amanda :)

Hey all, I was near the area that you all were, but I was closer to being in front of Chris more than Sean. However, I drove there with a group of friends and we didn't get there nearly as early as I would have liked. But there was a feature about me that some of you may remember seeing... or at least will be jealous of. I was the guy taking pictures. Yes, that's what I said. Don't ask me how it happened, but I had my camera in my hand during the search and he let me walk right on through -- I wasn't even hiding it! I had a really bad day earlier though and I didn't even think I'd get to go to the concert since I was stuck in a ditch on the side of the road, but events miraculously came through nicely, and I was able to make it on time. So I suppose it was the good that can come after the storm and soothe things out. Anyway, let's just say I was blessed twice that day -- during the accident, and being able to take pics of my favorite band at my first concert of theirs. I haven't gotten it developed yet, but I plan on doing it soon. It was a totally awesome concert and I enjoyed every minute of it!

Geez Jeremy!! Kind of an extreme day, man!! I'm glad things went so well for you at the show *how on EARTH did they ignore looking in your hand???* and that you were okay after your accident - was it a very serious one??
Man - my best friend missed another concert because of a car accident - yeek! Glad your luck turned around!!!

Thanks much for the setlist picker!!!! Hmm...so I wasn't the only one unsure of the instrumental song during the encore?? I should probably ask my brother, he tends to know a lot of things!! :)
Have they been doing close to the same setlist for the whole tour, anyone know? My Mom was wondering if the setlist was going to be the same for the Jax show ...

Well holy cow!!! I'm so surprised by how many of us .info-er's were standing there. This was the best show that I've been to so far. The energy was mind-blowing. The entire night was fabulous (including the lunar ecclipse).
Who's all going to Jacksonville? I agree with Guess_who that we all should try to wear something to find each other. Also, does anybody know of good clubs or theatre that NC could play at in Gainesville? I'm going o be calling around and just wondered if you have any ideas.
15 days till Jacksonville!!!!!

I don't think I'll care. lol I'll still be happy.
And linzee_nc, the only place i know of is The Palace on University Ave. They have jazz on Sundays. I think thats as close as we get, but sadly I don't know of any where else. You know.....we could try the stadium or the O'Connell Center. But yesterday I was also thinking of what Gainesville could offer them.
Oh, and yes I'm going to Jax. Hot dog!

Hello, everybody! :)
I've loved reading all these replies pertaining to the Orlando show! I went by myself, so, before now, there wasn't anyone for me to re-live the concert memories with. It's been awesome sharing them with you all. :)
Amanda, I totally agree! Loved how the crowd was singing the BGVs on Spit on a Stranger. Too cute. Ah, that wasn't me (the girl you described during Be Thou My Vision)....I actually was a little farther to the right, by the speakers. (In the front of the...stairwell, I guess it would be called? There was a space by the stairs that you could stand in, by the stage.) It amazes me that over 2000 or 3000 (?) people can pack into the HOB, because it seems so much smaller and more intimate, don't you think?
Mandofingers, so that was you wearing the sunglasses! I'm sure it's you that I saw. I was wearing a blue and white peasant top and dark slacks. But, I was a few people behind you and over, so you probably didn't see me. :)
Dylanpicker, thanks so much for posting the set list! You rock! How funny about you standing on Sean's side, too. :) We probably were pretty close to one another, for I was about three or four people back from Sean as well.
Linzee, that is so cool that you think the HOB show was the best one you've been to so far! Awesome that we were all there together and didn't know it! :) And, I wholeheartedly amen what you said about the lunar eclipse. Beautiful, wasn't it? It completely capped off a magical night.
Gee, I wish I could go to Jax along with those of you who are making the trip. I have to work during the week and have exhausted my time off hours for the month. Shucks. But, hey, I'll be depending on all of you for the details! Have fun!!!
Sorry about the long post....just wanted to make sure I replied to everybody.
Take care, NC pals!

Jeremy -- I am so glad that you were okay after your accident....and that you were able to make it to the show, too! That is incredible that you snuck in your camera. Bravo! I did see some flashes going off from time to time! :)
Take care,

Wow, with everyone talking about the Jacksonville show, it's gotten me psyched again about seeing Nickel Creek, and I'm going to do my best to try and switch days at work so that I can go to that show. They probably won't be back in Florida for quite a while, so I don't want to lose this opportunity to see them again. Plus, I wasn't able to meet them at HOB, so I HAVE to go try again, right? Sounds like we'll almost all get to see each other again... maybe we'll actually find a way to spot each other this time. I'll be going by myself to that show if I do go, so I wouldn't mind meeting a few new Creeksters while there.
Kim, thanks for your concern, and yes, I'm quite ok! I took most of my pictures during the second encore since I was closest to the band at that time, so the pictures would come out better. Although I have yet to see them, so who knows...

Yeah, I seem to remember a flash going off at the end, and couldn't believe that someone had made it past the security. lol. I was jealous. Especially since I was in arms length of Sean. Would have been some awesome pics. If there's a no camera policy in Jax., Jeremy you and I will have to talk. :)

Wow - active thread! Lot to reply to! Florida Creeksters rock!!!! :D
hehe - for some reason the term .info-er's just seems really cute. The users do need a nickname - makes it much easier to refer to each other!!! :P
I don't think I'll care. lol I'll still be happy.
I don't think my Mom will either! She said she almost hoped it was the same set list because it was such a good one!! :) Now if they could juuuust squeeze in Warmth of the Sun, Young, and something with SHB, that would be absolutely perfect!!! :D
Kim - cool that you had your own little space to stand in!! And you're right - it's awesome they were able to squeeze so many folks in!! Still felt like an intimate show up close ... hope it was that way for the folks in the back or the balcony also!!! My Mom had found the capacity of HOB before, while we were doing the petition thing...don't remember what it was off the top of my head [think har We shall surely give you details of the Jax show - and it's awesome that now you have people to share these memories with! Part of what's so good about boards like this ... :)
I hope you can switch days Jeremy!! It'd be so lousy to be stuck at work then ... [bang] Maybe we should just all be really agressive about asking people are you so-and-so?? :) Let us know when you get your pics together!!

Wow, there were a bunch of us in that area.
I was wearing a dark polo shirt, had longish blonde hair and a beard.
I am not sure if I am going to the jacksonville show. I would like to, but it is a long drive from tampa. But, if I do go I would like find a way to meet up with ya'll at the show.

Hmm...we definately need to try to notice all us .info-er's next time ....
Hope everybody can find a way to make it to the Jax show!!!! *crosses fingers*
