Hey guys I thought it would be interesting to discuss the things we've done in support of Bluegrass and Nickel Creek. Such as someone earlier mentioned they saw a bluegrass ballet and I wrote my college scholarship essay on the cultural affect bluegrass has on America.

I don't think this is crazy but my roomies do---I make my three roommates listen to Nickel Creek and bluegrass music all the time and bring them along to Nickel Creek concerts. I ask everyone I meet if they listen to Nickel Creek and send out e-mails to everyone in my addressbook whenever I have some great Nickel Creek news even though most of the people could care less!
I also blew up a picture of Chris and I to an 8x10 which I don't think is obsessive but others disagree!.

-giggles- i cant wait to see more answers for this one!!!.....i've defended bluegrass against a rap driven enviorment 0.0; but that not exactly crazy......

Well, I tell ALL my friends that they HAVE to listen to Nickel Creek--even thought they all like tecno and rap and heavy metal distortion. I would say, half of them now like NC. I also buy all of Sean-Chris-Sara's stuff. I do my best to spread the word that Chris Thile is the best mandolin in the world. (Thats not an opinion by the way, its FACT LOL).

LOLOL those are great! :) Has anyone ever heard of Dashboard Confessional? (I know that was kinda random...that's just how I am hehe) If not, it is this one guy that sings these punk rock songs, but they are kinda sad and everything (emo). And I really enjoy it. I know this isn't really the place to discuss punk rock, but we're all open-minded here right? :) Anyway, my friend just burned the cd for me and I LOVE it! Just thought I'd ask if anyone else here likes that kind of stuff.

I have serious trouble with message boards, so here's to hoping I'm posting this under the right thread (hopefully the craziest thing you've ever done to support Nickel Creek)...
I've done several rather insane things...Like spend over 10 and a half hours driving to and from their concerts...refusing to let my friends burn the NC CD and telling them to cough up the money to support the band...framing the picture I had taken when I met Chris and putting it up in my room (yeah, okay, that one's a little stalkerish, but oh well)...reading Lord of the Rings for the sole purpose of developing a better understanding of the songs In the House of Tom Bombadil and Riddles in the Dark as well as the CD title Not all who wander are Lost...um, I think that's it.
Some people might consider that obsessive.
I like to think of it as being hard-core.

I am not entirely familar with dashboard confessional, but a co-worker of mine always listens to it, and I actually kind of dig it. I tend to dabble in all sorts of music genres... except for rap. so now i might have to borrow the cd from her.

I got the Dashboard Confessional Cd for Christmas. A friend of mine who listens to more hard core stuff gave it to me and said that if I was going to listen to accoustic stuff.... he was making me listen to some that was good. They're pretty cool.

Yeah, I've pretty much made it a house rule. Listen to Nickel Creek and enjoy it, or get shown the door. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but nine times out of ten, either N.C. or Sean's CD will be in my stereo (haven't gotten any of Chris' CDs yet).
Luckily, the majority of my friends have grown to like them, and many have come to concerts with me. My friends and I are constantly introducing each other to new music.
Which brings me to a side comment. Someone had mentioned Dashboard Confessional earlier. [think] A friend of mine played me some of his music about a year ago, and I just keep loving it more. Great lyrics - sigh...
But anyways, I'm spreading the Nickel Creek love, one mix CD at a time. I always try to find excuses to put N.C./Sean/Chris songs into a mix. I'm not wearing a sandwich-board sign on a street corner or anything, but I'm definitely getting the word out.
Monday, Monday (dah-daaah-dah-dah-dah-dah),

Yah, I don't do anything TOO radical...however, I remember one thing...no make that two things my bro got us into to promote bluegrass...I think this tops the cake.
My brother was taking Drivers Ed, and at the end of the class, he asked if he and I could play for the class after the last test...I still don't remember how he got me up there...but we did!! We played two bluegrass tunes...oh gosh...how many people do you know that played bluegrass, or any music for that matter, for their Drivers Ed class??? If anyone here has...please comfort me....lol
Next...my brother was at a Bible training camp, and, sure enough, at the end of the thing, they had a talent show thingy...so, he calls me up and says, I want you to play with me tonight.......so we did...it was interesting, we didn't play really good, but the people liked it a lot...
My bro is very honest and outgoing....and will play music for just about anyone...lol

While re-reading the March issue of Teen People I came across an article about Chris Carrabba. I bet you're all saying Yeah, so? Welllll, he is Dashboard Confessional. Strange, huh? So I had to post about it. So anyway, the issue should still be in stands now in case anyone is interested. Thanx for letting me know that he is good, so now I will check out his music.:p

In high school I was in a group called showcase, it was a small group from chorus and band that preformed all types of music at shows in the community and at the school. Anyway all the members got to do a solo, so I did a banjo solo both years, one year I did dueling banjos with myself the other year I did Bugle Call Rag(at the end I played the banjo behind my head). At the end of the year show we had most of the students come to one of the shows so I played some bluegrass in front of most of my high school.
Also I taught lessons at and helped run one of the few bluegrass only music stores in the country(The Bluegrass Parlor (http://www.bluegrassparlor.com) in Tampa)
I don't how crazy those are but they were in support of bluegrass.

These responses are great! We have a member of our family who is 66 years old....and she wears a NC shirt! And when people ask her (in line at the store) What's a Nickel Creek? she gives them a 15 minute discourse!

after a friend repeatedly recommended dashboard's cd, i finally picked it up yesterday. i like it! it's really short (30 min, 10 tunes) but they're short and sweet. i love the first song, the brilliant dance... they sort of remind me of jimmy eat world, and the guy's voice has that particular punk voice.

Every single one of my friends seems to think that I am the stupidest person in the world for liking bluegrass. They all think that they are too cool to admit that they like it. I get so freaking mad when I'm talking about how awesome nickel creek is and they are like oh...nickel crap? and they've never even listened to them before! Then when I actually DO make them listen to it, they're like wow, this is pretty good.
I just wanted to vent because I get SOOOO mad....I'm always like you can talk about my mom, my family, me, whatever....but DON'T talk about Nickel Creek!!

I drove a total of 36 hours in one weekend to see them :)
and I will drive to see them again when time and money permits...
now was it littlevenice that was talking about DC? I had never heard of dashboard confessional until this year. One of my friends burned a copy of a 4 song ep that he got at a concert and I lve it. I have a bunch more of them now too. Definitely a good band...My best friend is in Massachusetts for the summer and heis seeing them with Weezer tonight. Two of my other very good friends will see them in TX in about 2 weeks. I am a little bt jealous.
and on nickelback thing...lots of people correct me whenI say Nickel Creek. I have the Nckelback cd too. They are really good one some songs, but alot of it seems rather bitter to me, so it is a definitely a in that sort of mood type of cd :)

Not that it's all that crazy, but I did see Nickel Creek three times in the same week. I saw them in Somerville Mass on sunday, In Portsmouth NH, on Tuesday, and then in North Hampton, Mass on Friday. I got a couple of pictures taken at the second concert, one with the entire band, and one with just sara :D . I now have the picture of Sara and I on the wall of my cube at work and at least 5 people have asked me is she is by girlfriend... don't I wish.

The craziest? Hmm-I drove 3 and half hours to a bluegrass festival except it tuned itno 4 and half because my friend and I got lost 3 times, but it was worth it because there were a lot of cool acts and I got to meet Nickel Creek for the 3rd time.
My favorite thing to do is blast it in my car though and it's even better when I pull up at a stop light with someone blasting rap music and I turn it up-I've gotten some weird looks (yea)! I introduced my summer roomie (whos from Mexico) to bluegrass a few weeks ago-she'd never heard it before.
About dashboard-I love dashboard! I saw him/them live in raliegh this past April. Has anyone heard of Further Seems Forever? That was the band the lead singer was in before he formed dashboard. Their pretty cool too-actually, I like it better than dashboard.

I just saw Dashboard Confessional last night on Letterman...they sounded pretty cool! And I agree with you about blasting bluegrass! I always do that and people are always like, shocked to see that it's a young girl blasting it and not some old man!
