Get Nickel Creek Played on MTV!

Hey Nickel Creek fans! I just came up with an idea, so please take a minute to read this. I want to try to get MTV to play Nickel Creek's new video, Speak. But I can't do it alone. So I'm asking for your help. :-) Starting Monday, March 31, go to mtv.com 's TRL page every day till April 3 and vote for Speak. Send this as an e-mail to as many Nickel Creekers as you can. If we can get enough people to vote, Nickel Creek might end up on the countdown. It might not happen, but it's worth a try, am I right?

Even if we sent LMTV 8 billion e-mails, I would still be surprised if NC got any play...on LMTV.

Anywho, back onto the topic. No, MTV may not play NC, but I know MuchMusic does. Speak, at least. My friend told me today. He actually watched it and sorta liked it. He's learning! :D

frankly I don't think that MTV deserves Nickel Creek. I mean, look at the kind of company that would place them in.

MTV disgusts me, honestly with the stuff they put on and they market it to children. I don't think that quality stuff like Nickel Creek belongs on MTV... just my opinion.:(

Sounds good to me! I know a long time ago there was an email going around to get New Kids on the Block or someone on TRL so it can be done if enough people call or write in.

Well, feadóg, what I'm trying to do is that problem. I'm tired of talking to people my age about music. There are very few that I know personally that listen to more than one genre of music. The ones that do seem to live VERY far away from me. (So not fair!) I have always wished people would be more open minded about music, so I'm trying to do something about it, thats all. Thanks for your opinion. And thank to everyone else too!

Feadog, I'm with you. I liked MTV in the 80s when they actually played music videos. Now they are all about hootchie mamas rubbin' up on pimp daddies or reality shows where the important things in life are hair, sex, and fake tans . . . MTV doesn't deserve Nickle Creek? Right on sista.

Besides, I am not sure I want to share them with the uncivilized . . .

I was thinking of the same thing . .. I think they HAVE to play whatever gets the most votes. .. and maybe if they do get on mtv, and people are interested and find out about them and other more alt bands, mtv will be full of bands like that, so the company issue will cease to be an issue . .. we can't know if we don't try!!

So what if Nickel Creek isn't MTV material. Part of the reason I'm such a fan is because they mix so many genres of music. I don't know about you but I think any NC publicity makes a positive statement, especially on shows like MTV's TRL, which influence a lot of people. Also, if you are trying to get them on TRL you have to have people actually write in or whatever and not just argue about whether or not it is acceptable. Just my two cents..

I sort of agree that Mtv doesn't deserve NC, but it is still a great idea. I can hear Carson's intro now: So we have a new videao today, it's from a group called Nickel Creek, whoever they are. There's a guitar player, a violin player, and I don't know what that funny lookin guitar thingy is. Then, after they play the video, the audience would all have confused looks on their faces because there are no dancers and the lyrics make you think. Sorry...going into one of my scenarios. Won't happen again.

I've gotta tell you, there are MANY videos on the MTV file that TRL will probably never touch, and it's been speculated that TRL is infact rigged - that's been going on for about 4 years, and no one has really given proof to either scenario. All I know is, if you want NC on TRL/MTV, trust me their time'll come...

I was in the EXACT same position 3 years ago with a little band from Waldorf, Maryland called Good Charlotte. Back then MTV wouldn't even give them a second look - all that filled their airwaves were boybands and rappers (and ocassionally Blink182). Here we are in 2003, and their videos along with others (Sum41, Simple Plan, etc). are in regular rotation, and all of those bands are what I'd consider MTV Whores (sorry Matt & Chip for using that word, but it's the truth).

I'm just saying, in a couple of years, I get the feeling that I would be surprised NOT to have, at some point, be embraced by MTV.

Haha, nice. Carson: Yeah, can you believe that they don't have a looped drum beat, or they didn't sample another song? They play their own instruments and write their own songs?! What kind of band is this?

LOL!! I remember listening to the music they were playing at a movie theater, talking about some new band, saying They're a pop band with a twist - they play their own instruments!! :rolleyes:

Personaly I think MTV is the devil. Yeah I used to like it back in the day when most of the music was ok, but now it just sucks major ass! I don't think they should have NC they are not good enough. Not only that but I don't think the target audience of MTV AKA Frat Boys would appreciate the music. They just want to listen to dumb rock that only makes them angry. Of course you can all disagree, I'm just posting my opinnion.
