Gosh-I've posted a lot today
Well, I've been noticing (on message boards and such) that there seems to be a little bit of animosity from traditional bluegrass fans towards more newgrass/bluegrass influenced performers such as Nickel Creek. They seem to say it's corrupting bluegrass, they're selling out- all that stuff. Of course, most people here are going to be fans of NC but I'm just wondering if any of you have experienced this(especially those who are into bluegrass or are musicians), what your opinion on it is and how you respond.

I laugh at this...

The banjo came from africa......
It was used out of it's traditional context.....
It helped create a new form of music. called bluegrass..
Same with the mandolin, but it came form classical music..

So, how can you borrow, yet not let others borrow?

They are woried that bluegrass in it's pure form will disseppear...

However, look at music today- Baroque music was improved upon with Classical period music, yet it still exists today in a pretty pure form.. even though it is hundreds of years old.

So i don't understand the argument. All music came form some where, and it going somewhere- or supporting something.

And if there are people who enjoy it in it's pure form, then it will continue to exist!

And I think it is a much bigger compliment to have a music that is borrowed, and used as a tool to another musical medium... than to have it be completly isolated.
