View Full Version : Who got their NC books???
Just got mine today... whoah. I tell ya... WHOLE new level of appriciation for #1 their music in general and #2 how long it took to get the books out. (well, for NC, not This Side)
Very, very cool. Guitar tab only... which I guess if better for me as a mando player, though tab from Chris woulda been cool LOL. All of you guitar players gotta be stoked!!!

Ooo man I am stoked! I can't wait to get those books!!!! :)
Now the question is - once I know HOW to play the songs - will I actually be able to DO it?? :P I've got a few other tab books, and about the only one I can work with quite a bit of it is a Jewel one .... Beatles and Everclear are a lil bit harder ... [shock]

You said it's guitar tab only. Does this mean only the guitar parts are included, or was everything transposed to guitar. If this is the case, then standard notation would have been much easier for most people. If it's only the guitar part, then why bother putting the books out at all? You really have to know what all the parts are doing in order to understand what's going on, especially on the more complex instrumentals (Butterfly, TomBom). I really hope I'm mistaken about this, because I had been waiting for these books for a while.
Ken
The notation is there for all instruments plus voice, the tab is provided (in addition) for guitar only. There's no mandolin tab.
Does that make sense?

Oh me!! Oh me!! I was one of the first ones to read that, I checked the numbers because there was no replies, but I couldn't reply because I clicked on the link and then got obssessed with trying to find the site, I was almost late for work. Again. I still haven't gotten into that site. But I'm kinda glad it's in standard notation, it works for all instruments, maybe someone can take it and make a really cool piano rendition?? Although I'm not too partial to pianos, that could be workable. Anyway, non tab playing people will benefit.
I got mine from http://www.sheetmusicplus.com :D
And I checked too, Matt! :D That's how I got linked in the first place ;) I certainly appriciated the heads up :D

I am getting mine today. Thanks for the link Matt--it helped me find them without having to wait two weeks. I love it--every place I called said Nickel Creek, huh? Is that the publisher? Is that the band or the name of the album? We live in a wacky world where talent doesn't necessarily get you to the big time . . . but they are inching their way up there. What are they, #8 now on CMT. I wonder if it is because people are listening to their music and realizing how amazing they are, or if it is because all three of them are hot. (That seems to be the word used most often I think). I just think it's funny (funny strange, not funny ha-ha) that sometimes you get these one-hit wonder people who will live off of royalities for the rest of their lives from one mediocre song, while true talent often lies buried. I think I am on a tangent.
The notation for mando will force me to read music, I guess. It sure would've been nice to have tab for that, but I'm not complaining. I'll be so happy when I get my books--I'll be playing non-stop
Hey I finally got one book today! Went to Milono and to see if they had came in and if there were any left. Some one got the self titled Nickel Creek.(Runts!!!!!) Any way I manged to get This Side and with in the next week the other book should be in.
Later Day!

Interestingly, I received my NC songbooks (both) about an hour before my guitar lesson on Monday.
My teacher knows I am a huge fan, so he thumbed through them. Well, knowing my playing skills, he picked Pastures New to start with. It's in an easy key (G, one sharp) and it has enough guitar to carry the tune.
He was really impressed with some of the complexity (nine-eighths time on Robin and Marian; unusual tunings), as well as how well the instruments blend.
WARNING...unless you have some mandolin or fiddling accompaniment, making that NC sound on your own might be tough.
HOWEVER, don't be discouraged. Get the books just to follow the music when you're listening. They actually play faster than I can follow the notes in the book.
Primed for the Keswick, Philadelphia show on Sunday! Maybe I can get one of my songbooks autographed.
Out,

I think it took me about 10 days to get mine in the mail, so you are still within a reasonable time envelope for getting the books. They are shipped ground from their shipping point, so it might take a little longer.
Funny though...I had an online business selling golf discs for frisbee golf. It seemed whenever a customer would call me to find out about their order, the discs would arrive the same/next day.
Therefore, the books should be in your zip code right now!
Good luck and have fun!
