We were able to record a recent show on mini-disc, and this is the result.

There are some pics on our site too.

Yes, thanks again, it *certainly* is great for us who're dealing with finals soon hehe.
On another note, I'm almost done downloading it (i'm on 56k still), but what I've started to realize is they seem to change the way they play their songs, sometimes its very suttle, sometimes its more obvious, but I took notice, since this is the first time I've heard any of their live stuff since October of last year. Different solos and stuff to certain songs, like ferdinand the bull sounded quite different than the other live stuff i've heard. la lune sounds kinda faster now too.... oh also let me know if you want the names of the tracks that have a question mark or are just instrumental , i think I know most of them

here's a link to all of his lyrics http://www.sweetadeline.net/lyrics.html if you go down to the very bottom where it says covers it's underneath that category.

Hey, I'd love the names of the songs, thanks.
And you're all very welcome. Thanks to my friend Andrew who did the recording and editing. If you're into jazzy funky music you can check out his band at http://www.infradig.net if you want. We were hoping to have at least Chris jam with them at the Covenant College festival, but alas it was not meant to be.

Hi again...
Sorry I forgot to add this before:
The show was of course great. I've been a fan for a while but unable to catch them live until this show. I'm sure most of you out there have seen them live, so I won't go on and on.
My lasting memory from the show was Be Thou My Vision It was truly worshipful. Being at Covenant College (a presbyterian liberal-arts school), most if not all of the audiece knows and loves the song, and I'm not sure, but I think the band was taken aback at the roar from the crowd when they introduced it....perhaps they dont usually get such a reaction? Anyway, it got real quiet, and it was such a beautiful evening, and Sara's voice carried our collective prayer wonderfully.
In somewhat of a contrast, the vocal jam from Chris during The Fox was so cool. And the whale song...so much fun.
Anyway, if you've never taken in a show, you really need to. Just wish I could go back to Scotland to see them right now!

Well, here's corrections to some of the titles that I made... If anyone else knows the rest or think mine are wrong, let us know:
track 4 --> ferdinand the bull
track 7 --> think about your troubles
track 9 --> st. anne's reel (i think, right?)
track 12 --> Goodnight, the Lord is Coming
track 13 --> this side
track 14 --> la lune
i really love the first song, the instrumental but don't know the name! first time i've heard it but its great.... i think every other title was named correctly...

Ummmmmmm......
Matt and I have kinda let this thread go, but we spoke about it tonight, and decided it's probably a good time to remind folks about Nickel Creek's guidelines on trading music.
NC's management hasn't yet issued a *formal* trading policy (I'm planning to check in with John on that again when he gets back from Europe) but Matt and I have both discussed the issue directly with Chris. Sara and Sean several times. Here, in essence, is what they've said:
Recording of shows is OK as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's enjoyment of the show and as long as the theater management doesn't object.
Physical trading of shows (i.e., an exchange of CDs or cassettes between fans via mail or in-person trade) is OK.
Any form of electronic exchange or distribution of shows or recordings (i.e., MP3s, .SHNs, .WAVs that are downloaded or made available for download, or shared on KaZaa or gnutella or whatever) is not OK.
Trading or downloading of released recordings (i.e., copying CDs for friends) is not OK.
Distribution trees (the distribution of dozens of copies through trees and branches) are frowned upon, and might be an outright no-no.
Keep in mind that Chris, Sara and Sean are three of the nicest, most considerate people you'll ever run into, so even if you ask them, you may get a polite answer that might not reflect what they're really feeling... they've already indicated that they don't want to offend their fans on this issue, but they have expressed some concerns, and their management is also concerned about letting the distribution of their material get too far out of control.
All of us, as fans, are very lucky that Nickel Creek has been so generous with their music as to allow us to freely trade it within the above guidelines. Since, their management is now working on a more formal policy, it would be a shame if people intentionally or unintentionally abusing the policy caused their management to pull back on the informal policy that's now in place because of abuse.
So, if you collect NC live shows, it would be good if you did NOT make your files available for download, or have them in in your shared music directories if you use KaZaa or Xolox or another filesharing client.
As moderators of the board, Matt and I look to the band and it's management for guidance for what is and isn't OK to discuss here. So we'd ask that, at least until there's a real policy in place, that people be low key about discussing trading here, and in particular, that people not post links to downloads of NC music.
As always, email Matt or me with any questions, concerns, comments, or flames :)

Sorry I've caused so much trouble!
Though I am having a VERY hard time understanding why distribution of live shows is frowned upon, if that's what they want, then OK.

and to comply with the above rough draft guidelines, if anyone wants a CD of the 4-20-2002 show, you can send me an 80 minute CD-R along with 4 stamps so I can send it back. If you're interested, email me.
Hey, Bob...
No harm, no problem! The great thing about the NC fans (at least the ones that post here) is that it's just a really great bunch of people who genuinely want the best for the band.
As to the policy, It *is* all a matter of degrees.
I worked full time in the music biz for 5 years, and still am a partner in a company that does artist management.
I don't claim to speak for John (NC's manager), and his interpretation may be totally different from mine, but this is how our company looks at it: Show trading is for the hardcore fans of a band, who are going to buy every release that's put out anyway. By supporting trading, band management supports the hardcore fans, and lets the music reach a wider audience without impacting record sales. Particularly for an artist like NC with relatively small sales compared to, say, N'Sync, the sales lost to MP3 trading and such really impact the band.
By requiring the physical exchange of media. you go a long way to ensuring that the hardcore fans will still be able to get their fix of live music, and you don't have wild, uncontrolled distribution of live stuff to the people who only passingly know NC and might choose to download the MP3s instead of buying the CD.
It's a tough balance... I am totally against what the RIAA is doing in trying to eliminate ALL fair-use copying of music, but I'm also familiar with the financials of smaller bands, and how important to their livelihood it is for people to buy CDs.
So... by honoring what we've been told informally about their trading policy, we help to ensure that they'll continue to be able to tour nonstop, sell more records, share their music with more people, and produce more music we can all enjoy.
Hopefully, that clarifies things a bit... and, of course, John may come up a month from now with a policy that's TOTALLY different from the informal one that we're sharing, but that's the best we have for now.
Please let Matt or I know if you have any questions or whatever.
Thanks much!
Chip
