I wanna give heaps loads o' credit and props to Sara for all of her amazing contrabutions. She is an absolutely stunning musician and singer. Her voice is absolutely golden and her fiddle playing is astonishing. Both fast and slow, she can make a fiddle sing brilliantlly. Her contributions to Nickel Creek have been no less than extraordinary. She is able to come up with harmonies for songs in the blink of an eye. Her vocals help make the albums shine. She is able to harmonize with herself (Sabra Girl) which is never easy. Her astonishing fiddle playing has also graced other wel-respected peoples' album as well (Chris Thile, Dolly Parton, etc.). Also her stage presents at live shows is very wholesome and funny at the same time. Her solos are riviting and energise every time. I am sure that she has been an absolutely superb sister and friend to Chris and Sean alike in the 14 years that they've been together as an amazing band. I am eagerly awaiting the day that Nickel Creek plays a song that she wrote as I am confident that her songwriting abilities will be nothing less than stupendous.
In conclusion massive props and credit goes out to Sara for her hard work and dedication to the success of Nickel Creek herself and everyone around her.

Sara is awesome! I must say I felt guilty after I saw them in Cleveland. I always paid attention to Chris and Sean. Not cause they're the guys but they write the songs, have solo albums out, and I play and know a lot about guitar and mando. I told my mom after the concert I knew Sara was a really good musician but I never realized she was THAT good! SHe's sooo amazing and super nice!

She is a great musician! In fact, her tone on the violin was actually the first thing I liked about the band...[noise]

I whole-heartedly agree, Sara is awesome. Her voice always amazes me, how she can do amazing solos like Sabra after singing things like Trouble. Her fiddling is remarkable as well. I have so much more respect for her now that I have tried it. Not only that, but she is a good person too.

Sara is so awesome! I agree with PJ, if Sara ever comes out with her own side project, we're sure it'll be amazing. Sara's a wonderful person, and I'm sure we all know that here. And of course, let's not forget what a talented fiddle player she is! She is also one of the nicest people I've met! Go Sara :)

I'd like to add a comment to this thread. This is something that I didn't even realize or think about for quite some time, and that is... with Sara doing a portion of the lead vocals, it really adds a huge amount of diversity to the overall sound of Nickel Creek. This may not be as apparent to other NC fans as it is to me (or maybe I just took it for granted for a long time and never really thought about it lol). For example, most of the other music I listen to involves only one lead singer in the group, whereas NC gives us THREE lead singers - one of which is a girl. So from this viewpoint, a lot of other music is (literally and figuratively) monotonous in comparison to NC!!! I never thought about this until just recently, and I thought it fit well with this thread. Sara's vocals definitely add a lot to NC's sound - as much or more than Chris and Sean's vocals.

That said, I'd also like to add that I do hope Sara will come out with a side project of her own sometime. I'm sure it will be great!

And one last comment. I play guitar in my spare time, and NC deserves a grammy for the song Tom Bombadil in my book! Between the fast tempo and the insane time signatures of that song, it's all I can do to figure out the notes (by ear) - much less actually play it. Trying to play the fiddle and mandolin melodies on an acoustic guitar is quite a workout!

I'm so glad someone finally mentioned this. In watching Sara at the Bogarts concert the other night, and before in Bloomington, I was wondering exactly how the three of them go about arranging a song. For example, when Chris writes a song or Sean, do the other two fill in with their own ideas? Or does the primary writer write the music for all three?? If it's just the one single part to begin with, (mandolin or guitar) and as leconte mentioned in Tom Bombadil, trying to harmonize to that insane time signature is just mind blowing to me... I have tried and tried to figure out what and how many time signatures there are in that song and Ihave had NO luck. Watching Sara play against Chris's beat is just amazing to watch... as everyone has said, she is definately a talented musician and to watch her play just proves it. If it's she that writes her own fiddle parts then if/when she does do a solo project, I hope it's full of the goodies that she does now. A huge round of applause to Sara for her contributions to it all!

I totally agree . It's amazing the harmonies that they work out, especially on Tom Bombadil. As for the time sigs, there's only three. The first half switches between 3/4 and 4/4, while the second half switches between 4/4 and 5/4.

So far I've only been playing the fiddle melody, not the mandolin's harmony (one is enough for now). I'll have to try counting out the 3/4 and 5/4 parts when I get the chance, although I'm not sure if it will help me or hurt me LOL! I usually play these things based on feel as opposed to actually counting them out in my head.

That brings me to another question I've been wondering... when they write pieces with odd time signatures, I wonder if they

(a) lay out the time signatures first and then try to come up with notes that fit

or

(b) just play whatever sounds best without even thinking about the time sigs, and if it ends up being 3/4 - 5/4 - 4/4 then so be it!

I love Sara's presence in NC. Her harmonizing with Chris and Sean is amazing, their voices are pure melody. She rocks!

I know this has NOTHING to do with Sara, but I just have to post. No tomatoes please. Anyways, I was going to comment on Day's siggy. Dierks is spelled like that. *points to his name* I love Dierks, too! :D
