Ok, I know this is pretty far from being related to NC, but hey, they have The House of Tom Bombadil, so somebody must be interested in Lord of the Rings. I just wanted to know if anyone else was a LOTR fan. I thought House of Tom Bombadil was so perfectly named; it fits with Bombadil's character in the book.

Since you mentioned it, yeah, I agree. Lord of the Rings is awesome and Tolkien was an incredibly talented person. I read The Hobbit in middle school (you've got to love required reading:) ) and that introduced me to the wonders of Tolkien and also C. S. Lewis. I just wish that we didn't have to wait until December and then a whole additional year to finish the movies. Oh well. It will be well worth the wait.

I'm a very big fan of LOTR, also. I had actually just started reading LOTR (I had already read The Hobbit) a week or so before I learned there was to be a film, so I had to kind of hurry to finish before I could see it. ;) In the House of Tom Babadil is a great song... I put it on when I read the chapter.:p

Speaking of theonering.net, they had a *great* interview with Chris about his album, music in general, and his thoughts on tolkien and the movie. I found the link from none other than this site! For those of you who haven't seen it yet, check it out!

I never saw it in the theatre because I didn't think I would like it. My best friend has read all the books like 18 million times, but I've never been as into that kind of stuff as he has. Well, I did this promo thing at BlockBuster, so I ended up getting the video for free. I waited a while before watching it...thought I may just give it away as a gift. Anyway, I finally broke down, opened and watched it.

[bigeyes] OMG!!! I laughed, I cried, I...was interupted by my father coming in the door during the scene of mourning right after Gandalf died!!

Anyway, I thought it was awesome.

Ok guys, you've got another HUGE LOTR fan here! I love Tolkien. I've read LOTR and the Hobbit, of course, but I've also read some of his other works as well. He is an amazing author, and LOTR has to be my most favorite piece of literature ever! The first movie was wonderful, and I can't wait for the next two. I'm just glad that the first one is finally out on video now so I can watch it whenever I want. Oh, and Orlando Bloom as Legolas...whooohooo...couldn't have made a better choice. What a cutie!!!:D

I don't have an idea, but I do have a question:

I watched LOTR on video in like, bits and pieces, and Tom Bom isn't in the movie right? The whole reason I read the books was bc Chris wrote that songs about Tom Bom, and then he's not even in the movie?!

nitejule
08-21-2002, 08:12 PM
if you think about it though, if they put tom in the original cut it really wouldn't fit. but i think on the deluxe version (i'm gettin that one too) dvd they will have tom....they are having over 30 mins of extra footage actually in the movie, so i think tom will be in it then.

NCFan4Ever
08-22-2002, 08:17 AM
I know that when they had originally planned to put Tom in the real movie, they were gonna use House of Tom Bombadil in the movie.....so do ya think that the song will be on the deluxe version?

I LOVE NC and I love LOTR. They group takes things in their lives and use it to write cool Songs! Chris's new solo album contains a song (with Bella Fleck) called Riddles In The Dark about that chapter in Tolkien's The Hobbit Where Bilbo & Gollom swap riddels. He also has a song about Padme Amidala from Star Wars. Sean's song Neo's Song is about Neo from The Matrix.

I really have to check back on here more often! I wish I could chat with you guys about lotr on aim or somethen but i'm not allowed to. i do get on theonering.net's chat often tho as Angloth. Tom Bombadil is in the books but not in the movies and he won't be in the extended version either. there will be about 40 seconds of fighting at Amon Hen tho, Merry and Pippin singing together, Aragorn singing, the gift giving at Lothlorien, and some other stuff I can't remember, but it all adds up to about 30-40mins. extra. I'm getting the extended dvd w/ the WETA bookends. :) :D btw, Two Towers and Return of the King will both be longer than 3 hours. :D i can't wait! I need more previews!!
heres the first preview that was put on the net. i think it had something like 1 million (some huge number like that, probably less tho) hits w/i the first day. it came out last January. http://a736.g.akamai.net/5/736/51/ae334b7ab217a1/1a1a1aaa2198c627970773d80669d84574a8d80d3cb12453c0 2589f25382f668c9329e0375e81785ea61cd36a40938a41385 e948b71d7cf058bd1c8ef765cc3f/lotr_320_fs.l.mov

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOTR!!!!

when i was little my dad used to read the hobbit to my siblings and i. and i just love tolkien! right now i am reading the silmarillion. ( i am such a nerd cause i got really excited when i read that two of the names of the valar were vana and nessa, being a vanessa, you can see my delight!;) )

about the movie....i really don't think that they could have done tom bom justice, so i am not too dissapointed that he was omitted, (it might have become a musical!! which actually might have been interesting to tackle....hmmm..) but i did think it was a mistake to leave out the lothlorien gifts from the originally released movie because they become important later on and i do know that the scene will be included in the special edition dvd released in dec. but if you had not read the books, how sad!!, and you just saw the films, you might be confused.

as to someone's comments about it not being nice to call sean a hobbit, i couldn't disagree more!!! being a hobbit is a compliment! i only know a few people that i would consider laid back, sweet, and cool enough to be hobbits of men!!

AND on top of all that....i have completely jumped on the legolas band wagon!! orlando bloom has to be one of the hottest men ever! and add his real life english accent!!! whew! i'm done! AND, he has the coolest fight scenes....like when he stabs the orc with his arrow, then immediately uses the same arrow to kill the other one!!!!! wow! oh oh oh, and when you get that shot of him where he pulls out arrow, after arrow in quick seccession!!! okay, so maybe i should add my own little what do you mean there are other people in the movie?! line to my signature!!!

when i saw the movie in the theaters with my roommate, i shared with her my deep love for legolas to which she replied, YOU LOVE THE FAIRY??!!! needless to say, we got in a little bit of a tiff. but she soon saw the err of her ways and recanted. i might forgive her someday, but who knows[evil eye]

i guess that is a mouthful, thanks for truckin through it, if you did!

How far have you gotten in the Sil? It's supposed to be pretty hard with all the names and being like M-e's Old Testament, but i could hardly put it down! Unfinished Tales is good to. Have you ever gotten on TheOneRing.Net's chat room (Barliman's)? It's really cool, though they don't always talk about tolkien, but orli is sure to be mentioned! good luck on sil! Namarie!

haha when i went to see the LOTR in theatres i made my dad go to see it. i had read the books and knew it would be great so i was like you are SOOOO going to see it. then when we left the thaetre i looked and my dad and told him i was in love. and he gave me the weirdest look. and said who, and i said that elf!!! LOL it was sooo funny. legolas has been my fave character in the books as well and the movie (orli helps that), plus i have always had a love for elves anyways. I WANT THE EARS MAN!!!! heehee ok i am done now.

Tom Bombadil one of the coolest characters that dosnt fit into the books very well i did some reading awhile back about tom's origin in Middle Earth and ....... it seems that critics picked on the part of the book where tom was because it sorta didnt fit but Tolkein ignored it and so its a awesome book and everyone loves Tom yet wonder alot..... Tolkein got the idea for Tom when he bought a doll for his children who's name was Tom Bombadil... and so its not exactly a Tolkein original character ( this is just what i read) . The silmirillian is a awesome book yet dosnt mention tom nor does the lost tales.... :( Somewhere it hinted in the Fellowship that Tom could have destroyed te ring himself by walking into Moridor and have no problem.... ok ill stop ranting about tom and talk about lotr...... I read the books like 4 years ago and have read them over and over again..... The movie didnt involve tom cause it would have made it super super long and wouldnt have fit..... anyways i gtg um yeah

peace

ps my daddy and i went to see the movie together, too! i know that when i get in town this christmas, we'll see the second one together as well. i really can't wait. there is nothing quite like the daddy/daughter tolkien bond, you know?

I know. We haven't read the books, yet anyway, but I went to see the movie with my dad too. My mother is not very interested in fantasy movies and things like that at all, so it's great that my dad is. There aren't a whole lot of movies now that are good for families to watch together, especially for older teens like myself who still want to spend some time enjoying things with their parents, so it's great that this movie trilogy provides that.

this may sound a bit weird, but here goes.....

i totally cried when i finished LOTR. it was beautiful, but i feel sooo much for frodo and sam and the gang (i don't want to give anything away so i won't go into detail, but for those of you who know...) and now, when i hear that enya song, the fellowship of the rings theme, i get all teary cause of the end of the books. it doesn't matter where i am either, just thinking about it makes me misty!:o

i was kinda just wondering if anyone else felt the same, or similar.

also, does anyone ever get that disconnected feeling during and just after reading a really good book? it feels as though, if the author is amazing, i just get swept away and real life just doesn't seem as beautiful and vivid as the author's world. just kinda throwing that in out there to see if anyone else feels the same.

and to add in a Creek reference, i feel that way when i get into a really good cd too.

Yeah, I feel the same way! After I finished the book I felt dazed and like I was missing something. Definitely made me cry! Some books are like that, they feel completely real, and completely their own rich, luscious world, that you just wish you could grasp or go to. And the only remedy is to reread the books-- or I think this is why so many people get into fanfic! But nothing is like reading them the first time, when everything is new, all the possibilities before you. And then when you go back again it seems more contained. But then again, going back and reading it, it's like an old friend. That's the good thing about series, they last longer!

Tolkien's writing also has a lot to do with it. The book itself is about a rich, beautiful world that's fading away, and the whole novel has that kind of somber, regretful tone, like an old friend's going away. After I finished LoTR I had to go out and read The Silmarillion just because I couldn't bare to part with Middle Earth so quickly.

I feel that way about a lot of good books I read. It's just good to know that somewhere out there is another world to be discovered. It can never be like the one left behind, but it can become just as much a part of you, just in a different way.

I think creativity is one of God's greatest gifts. It lets us experience so much, see things the way they should be, share parts of our souls with so many other people . . .

--Kelsea
p.s. if you couldn't tell I really like books :D

Like most everybody I was required to read the Hobbit in school. However, I can't even recall whether or not I liked it. I went to check out installment one in the theatres and have to admit it is by and far the best movie I have seen in a long long time. Therefore as a long time avid reader I decided to give the books a go once again and blew threw the trilogy. Tolkien is a master! I sometimes hate admitting it took me so long to come across his work but what the heck. Here is a good thread...what is your favorite part and or chapter in the trilogy? Hands down for me it was Helms Deep. The entire battle scene was so eloquently written and captured all the elements of battle (or at least it did to me) in the most perfect of medieval fashion. I dig it.

as far as my fave chapter, i would have to say while they are lothlorien!! but i also love that chapter in the hobbit where bilbo is with golum (riddle in the dark) thats my fave chapter. heehee

I really do love LOTR. Tolkien is amazing. I cannot even imagine sitting down and dreaming up all of the symbolism. One person said they read it for school. There is no way that would have passed in my public school (back in the day.) Any way, I love C.S. Lewis too! Both great authors.

I am so sad though. With school and work I have been way to busy to read past the Fellowship of the Ring. Plus, I think I have forgoten most of the Hobbit and the Fellowship, cause I don't even remember Tom Bom! I have been meaning to go back and jog my memory, but I still haven't found the time. Anyone willing to seng me an e mail with a refresher course?

Tolkien was actaully writing about a new shadow in the Gondor during the 4th Age but he died before he could finish it. I don't know much about what it was about but I think it is in the last History of Middle-earth book. I wish he had finished it but i guess we're left to fanfic!

I'm a huge LOTR fan. Self-proclaimed Billy Boyd (Pippin) fangirl. I was a regular at his forum at bb.net for a few months.

I didn't read the books until after I saw the movie, but I had read some of The Hobbit before hand. It took some coercing from my friends and older sister before I would go see the movie, but I'm so glad I did. Now I've read all the books and am eagerly anticipating the next movie, although I won't get to see it until the day after it comes out (I have school that day and church that night). I'm thinking about trying to tackle the Silmarrilion. And I want to learn to speak Quenya... cause that would be neato frito.

Thank you ever so much!!! Have you seen the thing on TORn where you can start a line party for TTT? I was thinking of doing that, but since I myself won't be able to go on Wednesday, I thought I better not. I hope that TTT soundtrack is as good as FOTR was. I listen to that thing all the time. In chorus, we sang May It Be. That was pretty cool, especially because my friend drew hobbit feet on her music, and we thought of hobbits the whole time... yeah, I've just concluded that my life is LOTR and Harry Potter and Nickel Creek... and that's about it. Oh well, it could be worse... I could be stabbed (ah, shameless Life of Brian references).

okay, this is freaky: amber, are we related? did you just show up as my alter ego or something...oh wait, too similar for that even to be possible. btw, i own life of brian :)

as a high school teacher, i'm actually taking students to a late showing of tt (not as a chaperone of anything official, mind you--just helping with convincing wary parents).

and as for a sort of obsession, my church (my old one in tallahassee) and i did a lotr dress up party back in september. it was quite ornate. even the food stations were themed: faramir's cave, the shire, lothlorien. i was goldberry who is one my very favorite characters! we must have had everyone :) we even had people you meet in the sil...we had multigeneral photos taken, children scared by my pastor who decided he'd be an orc etc. it was a wild time! you must try it! we did something similar when matrix I came out on dvd.

thanks for that language site, btw, to the sweet sharer of valuable resources!

i'm more of a hobbit size, but somewhere in me lies that maia or elven thang,

I don't know if we are related or anything, but it is sort of odd how much we have in common. Props for owning Life of Brian. I'm starting to collect as much Monty Python stuff as I can. I'm going to buy the special edition DVD of The Holy Grail soon.

Anywho, EricaElf, I've never been into Barliman's. I've considered it, and I might some day. My name on there would be Bubbles or EmpressBubbles if you ever see me on there.

I'm re-reading the Hobbit at the moment, when I'm not trying to hurry and finish Empire Falls. Hobbits are my favorite... erm... creatures (for lack of a better word) in Middle Earth. They are just so funny and lively. And the ones I'm most like, most of the time. My friend Matt actually started comparing me to an elf yesterday because I was in one of my contemplative moods. But, for all intents and purposes, in my opinion I'm a hobbit, in all but size. But I'm short enough to where I could have played one in the movie... and been close to Billy Boyd. *sigh*

Enough babbling out of me for now.

Afterthought: Anyone ever been on the Billy Boyd.net forum? Because I was a regular there for some time. It's a very nice, and occasionally loony place.

Now I'm done.

For those of you interested in the Battle of Helms Deep and other scenes:

http://www.massivesoftware.com/

is what they used. They also talk about it on the LOTR SE DVD which r0x0rs. I'd love to see an RTS that uses the engine (although i think that won't happen as it costs $40k per licence). Check out the News section as they have links to other sites where they do writeups on how they used it to get crowd movements.

Tom B is not in the DVD either as he is a non-essential part of the plot (although it does bring the question where do the hobbits get their weapons from, and the film used Aragorn- cuh!). Although I thought the gift giving scene is rather vital as it shows the Star of Elendil which figures in the Shelob episodes...

The Silmarillion requires plugging away at. The first time I read it, I made charts of who was who and where everything was. I'm such a Tolkien freak. Even managed to write my BA dissertation on him \o/ and the other books are well worth the purchase *shameless plug*

Sigh. TT out in December. Less than a month to go...

I was thrilled with Peter Jackson's adaptation of Fellowship, and I look forward to the upcoming release of Two Towers. In the meantime, I'd recommend downloading and viewing this version of LOTR:

I thought that TTT was a good movie. I've seen it 3 times, so I should think it is good or stop seeing it, eh? I understood why they changed some things, doesn't mean I like it, but I understand. The only one that has really started to bother me is Faramir's character. I hate how they made him so much like Boromir when in the books they are so different. That was really my only complaint with the changes... and the fact that Haldir and other elves weren't at Helm's Deep.

HALDIR LIVES!!!

Hi!! NEWBIE ALERT!!!

Anyways, just had to get that out of the way. I am an LOTR fan(and Orli fan-just look at my name!!). I thought The Two Towers was FAR better than The Fellowship of the Ring. I like the fact that Aragorn was more kingly, that Legolas was just cooler. And Helm's Deep was the best!! Nice work, Peter Jackson!!

My only vent was all the Arwen stuff. It felt so horribly out of place, that I wanted to scream. Mind you, this is MHO, but I thought Arwen has been horribly overplublicized. And I thought there was not enough Eowyn, Theoden and Eomer. They are three of my favourite charecters, and yet we hardly see them!! Grr.....[bang]

Other than that...I loved it!! Especially Legolas....

Rochelle

PS...Hi Amber!!!

Hi Rochelle! You don't have a Scully name on this board! I'm so glad you're here! (FYI, I met Rochelle at bb.net, or the Loony Bin one or the other).

I agree with the fact that there was too much Arwen, but I think the reason PJ was doing that was because if he didn't, there would be no reason that Aragorn couldn't start liking Eowyn in the movies and it wouldn't properly represent the sort of tension there was there I suppose. He had to add Arwen in for that story to make sense and probably to try and make the movie more interesting. I hope I'm making sense. If not... sorry.

There should have been more Eomer... I like Eomer. He's a great character.

Nope, no Scully name. That's actually strictly a bb.net and loony bin thing.

And I do understand it a bit, I just don't like the manner in which they did it. In the books, Arwen is very strong-she never questions that Aragorn would never come back for her, or that he would not be faithful, and she never considered leaving Middle Earth...unless PJ and crew have a different set of Appendices than me! Could happen!;) :p

And much, MUCH more Eomer. He is so great, as is his relationship with Aragorn, and it was all left out...*sob*

Glad they left the orc count in though...that was funny!!

They'd be laughing at me. I read them right after I saw the movie, though. I was one of those people who had read The Hobbit but needed a little convincing to read the other books. But the second time I went to see TTT I did laugh at someone behind me who shouted, Oh, it's Gandalf! when Gandalf came back. Some people just aren't readers, I've had to learn to accept that. Now I'm a big book fan... I of course like the books better than the movies now. I strive to learn more about Middle Earth. I have no life... *sigh*

I thought that Legolas and Aragorn seemed kinda more superhero-ish than immortal and mortals, but that may just be me. Before the first movie came out i was really worried about the Arwen scenes but after awhile they grew on me and i like them. I think that they had to put those scenes in b/c it gave more depth to the story. Over all, i think i liked the movie, and i think with the extended scenes in the TT DVD more will be added that will make it better, like making Faramir turn good and not tempted so much be the Ring. I can't wait for RoTK tho!! :D :D

This, being my first thread, I thought should be something I have a love and passion for (LOTR). It has not only stimulated my literary taste, but has taken my imagination places far out of reach. Tolkien was an amazing man and anyone who has not read his works should know that he is missing out on a great fortune in life. Anyway, about the movie. Peter did a great job and definitely deserves an Oscar (even though he did mess up quite a few things). We Tolkien fans must learn to appreciate it as a movie and not try to critique it by the books (though it is difficult). We still have Tom Bombadil and Faramir in our imaginations, I have to remind myself of that often. By the way, did anyone see Peter Jackson in TTT?

Bubbles

Peter Jackson is also in Helm's Deep-he is one of the guys in chain mail throwing rocks down on the orc. Alan Lee, Viggo's Mortensen's son, and producer Dan Hennah also have cameo's in the movie.

I finally saw Peter throwing a spear (or whatever) at Helms Deep, but I didn't see him when Saruman was gathering the men, I'll have to look for that next time.

Do any of you know where Viggo's son, Alan Lee, or the producer are in the movie?

PJ's kids are in the cave, being held by a woman and looking frightened when the orcs are marching overhead. They are both wearing blonde wigs.

Alan Lee and producer Dan Hennah are in the background when Legolas and Aragorn are arguing, when Legolas thinks everyone is going to die, and Aragorn says, Then I'll die as one of them!!!!

Viggo Mortensen's son, Henry, is in the background when Aragorn is talking with Halas son of Hama about his sword, and that it is a good sword.

Hope that helps!!!

I think the boy who's sword Aragorn was sharpening was Haleth son of Hundor (not that it really matters) but I noticed that the name was very familiar. I looked for it in some books but I only found Haleth (a woman) of the line of Hundor. I just thought it was interesting that they took some of the older names of other ppl.

Nope, he said Haleth, son of Hama, sir as in Hama that was killed earlier in the movie by a warg rider. It's his son. I wasn't sure myself, so I went and looked it up in a copy of the script..so we were both half right!! And PJ is really big on continuity and tying charecters together, so he wouldn't throw in some of the older names in the movie, but rather tie an exsisting charecter back to an old one. And Hama did have a son...though we never really see him in the books, he did fight at Helm's Deep.

I am so excited! I started school last week and I am taking a popular fiction course on LOTR. I took the class for fun because I love the series so much. The very first day of class all we did was talk about Dwarves. How cool is that?! The next day we talked about Elves. My teacher made some very revealing comments about Legalos in the movie. She seems to UMMM *...like him*..yeah, scary. That really ruined Orlando Bloom for me. Hearing my old unattractive teacher making those interested noises over him. Blah. HE is all yours girls! Anyways, I really like the class. It is a lot of reading. We had to read The Hobbit in it's entirety last week. That may not sound like much, but add twelve other hours of college course work and some related celtic poetry and your busy. Anywho... If I we discuss any cool book things (which I am sure we will), I will ket you know.

I watched TT again last Sat. I liked it alot better the 2nd time then the first time. I couldn't tell who was killed by the Wargs but I know Hama was there. I really wouldn't like it if Hama was killed there as in the books he was killed at Helms Deep. Oh well, i guess it doesn't make that much difference. It was good either way :)

Errr...well, hate to burst your bubble, but that was indeed Hama that was killed by the warg with Gamling taking his place(though he doesn't die)at Helm's Deep. Why they chose to do it that way, one could only guess. I don't even begin to get the logic of Peter Jackson's mind. Just like him putting in that whole Aragorn-tumbling-off-the-cliff-and-dying bit. But a minor thing...that can be overlooked. My majour nitpick is the overpublicizing of Arwen. THAT nearly drove me to drink...but I was able to overlook that, too, after a while.

And I did really like the movie, my favourite stuff being all Gimli and Legolas scenes, a vastly improved Aragorn over the last movie, and all the Sam and Frodo scenes.

What I think needed improvement-more Eomer, I hated right up until the end the way the changed Faramir, and there wasn't enough of Treebeard/Merry and Pippin, which was one of my favourite moments in the book. I loved Treebeard!

I absolutely adore the Lord Of The Rings. The first time I read them was in High School. The second time I read them, I actually went out and bought the whole series in paperback and that was late '98, when news that PJ was going to do the films. I am trying to finish the Silmarilion now and I am on the last chapter before it breaks into the Akallabeth. The reason it's been taking me a couple of months is that it is a hard read and I am trying to keep track of names and places.
I am such a huge fan that I want to get Elrond's ring, Vilya or Gandalf's ring, Narya, but they are so expensive.
Hopefully, that would make a nice anniversary present from my wife

How weird is that? OrliBloomLover: I can't believe PJ did that!!! Hama was supposed to die at Helm's Deep and Theoden was supposed to be really sad over him dying and put the first earth over him when they made his mound and he was supposed to have the separate mound and everything and WHAT WAS PJ THINKING???

EricaElf,

Settle down, I know that there are some Tolkien purists out there that swoon to the ground because there were certain things left out of the film for time constraints and for pacing of the story and things that I wish were even filmed and put into the Extended Version DVD. Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights were two of the things that I wish were in the film, but weren't. PJ did this so that people who have never read LOTR would be really excited and not bored to death. Personally, I love the books, but for those who can't read long books and understand alot of Old English, that's why he did it. Now from what my friend tells me the PC game version has all the characters that were taken out of the film, Barrow Wights, Tom & Goldberry, which I think is really cool. You check it out if you have a computer. I know once I get my computer from my friend that will be one of the first games to get.

Yeah, he was and I was quite amazed when the killed Hama right there. But whatever...what's done is done, and I'm sure PJ, however crazy, had his reasons for doing it. I quite like the charecter of Hama, though, and was disspointed. He was Theoden's right hand man in the book, and in the movie, that was Gamling, who was more of a minor charecter in the book.

And I really want to get a version of Nenya...I think it's such a pretty ring!!

Well, I just finished the Silmarilion yesterday and all I have to say is WHEW! A very interesting read if you have the time and I got away with because I kept a journal of all the names that appeared in the book and now I can go back and say that I remember those characters and whatnot. Now I am reading The Tolkien Reader, and it's an old copy, from the mid 60's. Its has Tree & Leaf, Farmer Giles Of Ham and The Adventures Of Tom Bombadil. After that I am probably going to read Smith Of Wooton Major and then tackle Book Of Lost Tales Pt1 after that. If anyone knows of where I can get a cheap hardcover copy of Pt2 from first printing, I would greatly appreciate the info. The first volume has a green cover and the second one has a red cover with some runes on the front and the title in big print.

Thanks

Right now I am reading a book of short stories done by Tolkien called the Tolkien Reader. The copy I have is probably out of print but I am sure there are updated versions of it out there. It contains a preface by Peter S. Beagle, ashort play about some old Saxons taking dead bodies to an abbey, Tree And Leaf (which contains On Fairy Stories and Leaf By Niggle), Farmer Giles Of Ham and The Adventures Of Tom Bombadil (which are short poems) I also have another book which has Farmer Giles Of Ham but it also has another short story called Smith Of Wooton Major. I would recommend those. Also try out the Book Of Lost Tales, which are journals that were kept by Tolkien which eventually turned into the Silmarilion.

Well, I heard that David Wenham is a detestable person in real life. In the very few interviews that I have seen him do, he is very rude. Also, he very rarely sign autographs for anybody, unless it's for some autograph company. So I guess that's what he gets for playing such a watered down version of Faramir in TTT
