[think] Reading all these posts here and realizing that i am not the only one who loves Nickel Creek, i was just wondering how packed you think their free Lancaster show will be? I have never been to any of their live shows, and i am sooooo very excited to go to this one!! It starts at 7 p.m. i think - what time do you guys suggest I get there to get a great seat? Also, for those of you who have met the band before at their shows, do Sara, Chris and Sean ususally come out to talk to fans?
I need your suggestions!!!
Thanks so very much!

Hello!!!
This is Jandi from Long's Park Amphitheater - presenters of the FREE show in Lancaster this coming Sunday, June 2nd.
The showtime is 7:30pm. I would suggest coming as early as possible to get a good spot on the lawn. The amphitheater is outdoors and there are no seats, so you may want to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on.
Also...you can come as early as 7am if you want to enjoy the rest of the park....there's a lake w/ducks & swans to feed, a petting zoo, tennis, baseball, basketball, etc... You can even bring the dog...on a leash though, please!
I would love to hear responses from anyone who is planning on coming to Long's Park. I have NEVER had so many inquiries about a show as I have for this one. I can not wait to see how big the crowd will be....
Can't wait to hear from you all! Jandi at Long's Park...

Just returned home from tonight's show and wanted to post my thoughts.
This was my family's first NC show and will certainly not be our last. The band put on an incredible performance.
We arrived around 2pm and set up camp front row, center stage!! We met a lot of really nice people while waiting for showtime and made some new friends.
The band came out for a sound check around 4 or so and later around 6 they put on a little impromptu jam session for about 100 or so lucky fans that were hanging around behind the stage.
Showtime was 7:30 and the place was packed. I am not sure how many people in total were there but my guess would be around 7 to 10,000 people showed up. The band was blown away by the huge turnout and commented that this was the largest crowd they had for one of their shows.
The show itself was outstanding followed by two encores. After the show the band came out and signed autographs and took pictures with people for about an hour. The fact that they took so much time for their fans really impressed me and my family. It really took the whole experience to a personal level for many in attendance.
Thanks to the band for a truly memorable show.

nice article, but I think the writer should be gently chided for accusing Chris of having the style of a Back Street Boy! yikes. but, on the other hand, if it'll bring in more kids, why not? :-)

The Lancaster show was my first Nickel Creek concert. I loved it so much. My brother and I got there around 3:15 and got seats in the fifth row. I just could not believe the number of people who came--15,000. And the concert itself was awesome. Sara is so beautiful and talented. Chris is so much fun to watch; his facial expressions go so well with what is going on in the music and in his mind. Plus he was jumping around and getting everyone in the crowd riled up. :) Sean seems so intent and focused while playing. Its like you just want to run up and give him a big teddy-bear hug. Derek was playing barefoot. Hmm...barefoot in the park. So yeah, I can't wait until I can catch another show. I am even more impressed with them from seeing them live.

I was almost not wanting to make the 3 hour journey to see 'em - but I did - and am so thankful I did! I can't help wishing I'd brought something to record the show with - it was awesome! I don't know if I can actually wait till August to hear those songs again! :-D
If you ever get the chance, run - don't walk to see Nickel Creek!

After missing NC at the Philly Folkfest last summer, I was so stoked to discover the band coming to Lancaster, PA...and for free no less!
With my five year old, two year old, ten month old, and wife, we sat on the lawn at Long's and thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic musicianship of the band.
As the kids were fading into the night, my daughter kept wondering when they were going to play The Fox. Well, NC did not dissappoint, as we jammed to their first encore on the town-o!
To find out, and listen to some of their new stuff was also a treat. I cannot wait to get their next CD (release Aug. 13th!)
It's amazing how life works. If I was not listening to a Dolly Parton interview on NPR, where she mentioned Chris as the mandolin player from Nickel Creek, I probably wouldn't have ever pursued their music.
I (and my family) are so thrilled that we did!
Keep up the great work NC! We're with you all the way.

I'm a newcomer to NC, seeing them for the first time on the telly a few weeks ago. Their musical virtuosity forced me to stop my channel surfing in my tracks!!!
Anyhoo, I noticed the Lancaster concert on their website. And being that it was on my way back from my annual golf weekend in Luray, Va.(144 holes in 4 days) I decided to take it in.
They certainly did not dissappoint! Wow, what playing! Early on there were a few sound problems that were quickly ironed out ie. overmiking of the bass and some minor feedback problems.
The set was great, mixing old and new stuff. I only wish that they had played Old Cold Coffee on the Dashboard. I love the key changes and jazz influences of that particular song. The encores were great and I am glad they ended with Be thou my vision as I hadn't heard it before and was told they performed it well.
Each member showed what GREAT players they are. However, I was disappointed that the crowd didn't seem to give it up for Sean enough after his solos. After a slightly shakey start, Sara hit her vocal stride which I think has improved from their CD.
Just a fabulous concert! Thanks Lancaster Parks Commission or whoever!!!

i am a new member here and just wanted to comment on the long's park show sunday night. it was the first time i saw nickel creek and it was incredible. i thought the band was very down to earth and they had so much energy. my sister and i took a cd along to see if maybe they would sign afterwards. we only got chris's signiture but that was o.k. because our dad plays the mandolin and we explained to him that this was for our dad who couldn't make it because of a recent surgery. we also got our picture taken with him. it was so awesome!! they just seem so nice. i'm really hoping that they will be back in that area again soon!! i've grown up listening to the traditional bluegrass but i just like they're style. i think it's great that they're music is attracting more young people.

Oh, the show was sooo AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
It was my first time seeing the band live!!!
I sat next to Tony Felice (remember me, tony?) who was sooo gracious enough to let me sit next to him and his family - front row center. It was sooo nice to talk to a nickel creek fan!!!
My husband said that Sean was praying over the crowd when sara sang be thou my vision - how awesome is that!
After the show, they came out on stage and i got my picture taken with Sara, Sean and Chris!! They were sooo nice!!
We came from Pittsburgh, and we had to stay overnight at a hotel - when we pulled up to the Hilton, there was Nickel Creek's bus, and i saw Chris walking in. As I was checking on the room prices, Sean walked in. I said hi, sean! and he said hi back, probably wondering how i knew him!! i was so star struck!!!!
I know they didn't expect all those people to show up - my friends in North Carolina said Nickel Creek played in front of 3,000 people, and NC said that was their biggest show. I am so glad things are working out well for the band!!!
And for those who were in the very front during the last few songs, how cool was that? Sara had her camcorder on the whole time I think.
Sorry for the long post! Thanks, NC, for an awesome show!!
Luv ya!

Of course I remember you, it was real cool to have been able to enjoy the show with you. I think even your husband was impressed by the whole thing
What really has stuck in my mind has been the fact that a large perecentage of the crowd stayed for the entire show all the way thru both encores. You would have to assume that a lot of the people there were locals who come to the Longs Park shows on a regular basis as a free night out. I remember that when Chris said that they were playing their last song I notcied a handful of people leaving to beat the crowd, but when the dust settled and both encores were completed, there was still a massive amount of people there all the way in the back.
Oh and yes, Sara did have her camcorder on the whole time during the encores, I'm happy to say that myself and my daughter are now part of her home video collection.

I was at the Longs Park show also. I had the date marked on my calendar for months counting down the days! We got there at 3:15 and sat 3rd blanket back center stage. What can I say? It was the most awesome concert I've been to. My most memorable moment came at the end when I was standing with my 2 young daughters directly in front of the stage and Chris asked everybody to sing when you come back down with them. It was so Moving. You could tell by the expression on their faces that they were blown away by all of us. After the show they were sooo gracious with us fans, taking the time to talk to my daughters and signing for them. My only regret is my husband had my camera and I couldn't get pictures with them. I have not been able to stop talking about our experience for the last few days. My brother and his family met us there knowing nothing at all about the band, they were blown away by the talent! I'm so thankful that I've gotten the chance to see them live. Even with the crowd that showed up it still felt very intimate and personal.
I LOVE NICKEL CREEK
