OK everyone, I was just wondering...what do you think would happen if Nickel Creek got enough votes to be on Total Request Live? Do you think they would play them? Well, I think we should all decide on a (june 7th might be good b/c that's the day before sara's b-day) and all vote like, 20 times and get everyone we know to vote and just see what happens. Now, I know alot of you are probably going to kill me for even thinking about putting Nickel Creek on the horrible, evil channel of MTV, but lighten up a little! Wouldn't it be awesome to get NC on there? I know it's a little far-fetched b/c they probably wouldn't play them even if they DID get enough votes...but what's the harm in trying? let me know what you all think.....

Oh goodness! I haven't watched TRL since.... well.... forever. I think it might be a good idea but maybe most of the Creeksters here don't even watch that show. Right now I would be more worried about getting them back on MWL first and then worry about the other fishies later. But that is a good idea.

Geez, I feel so out of it. I don't even have MTV! My parents got it taken off the tv when i was 12 year old because they really did think it was evil. So needly to say, I've never even seen trl. I do know what it is, though.....

ah, a kindred spirit! I didnt know what TRL is either, b/c I gave up TV back in '95, and my life has been all the better. I don't mean to get too political, but come on people, turn off the TV, pick up a guitar or mando or fiddle or bass (or a BOOK for that matter) and take back your life. can I get a witness? ;-)

i do watch movies if they are worth watching. and a few tv shows here and there. but i also love writing, playing instruments, and school. being homeschooled gives me tons of time to do what i want. i like reading too. ever read anything by stephen king?

let's start a thread in the off topic section about good books or something like that.

I'm with mandoBob here. I gave up tv four years ago, and believe me, it is worth it. Its like you waste so much time just sitting there, doing basically nothing. A mental challenge, like reading or playing music or writing is so much more fulfilling. Plus there's not a distraction keeping you from doing stuff that is more important, like thinking, philosophising, etc.

That would be awesome, but I'm not sure MTV would play it-they probably don't even have the video in their library cos it's not their format. But, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try!

I defence of Mtv, I just had to say that I love TRL. I think it's awesome. I like all types of music though. MWL is just a poor copy of TRL. I think it'd be sweet if we got Nickel Creek on there, but I don't think it's very likely to happen.

hahah-I liked to see Carson Daly's face if a bluegrass video got played on TRL!

Sorry, but Carson Daly sucks. He's famous for hosting a show that plays videos.....that bugs me. He's not overly talented. I could do his job. That's like the dj at the skating rink being famous. If MTV were truly music television as originally depicted, then there would be no need for Carson because they would only show videos. It'd be nice, huh? Oh, well....... anyone else hate reality tv as much as i do?

no offense to trl b/c i vote everyday for the calling since i am part of there street team. but trl doesn't always do the videos according to votes. its a little rigged sometimes
I'm shooting from the hip here, but my guess is that Sugar Hill and NC's management will probably be going after MTV with This Side, so there will probably be a concerted effort to make something happen soon after the release of the record in August... as soon as the street team coordinator digs out from under all the requests she's received, I'm thinking we'll see a plan to help ensure the success of the new record!

Yeah-I can't stand Carson Daly either-all he does is joke about strip clubs and it's annoying and...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY RIG IT??
I am so naive-stupid MTV

An off-topic thought from Mom here: To those of you who don't watch tv any longer - tv is exactly like a library. You can go to a library and read junk, porn, dreadfully written materials. Or you can select the masters, beautiful poetry, educationally enriching books. Tv is the same. There are some marvelous programs on tv...on art and music and history and science. It's simply a matter of selection.
And if our NC get on MTV, I'll even watch that!!!

point taken. very true.
but I've read a bit of research that suggests the medium of TV affects us in not-so-good ways. not that I think it's a grand conspiracy to melt our brains, but we do go in to alpha waves (like daydreaming) when we watch TV.
I dont want to sound too extreme, but I can find some cool stuff at a landfill, but it stinks so much I'd rather avoid it :-)
but I'd watch NC on MTV too.

Good for you, Mandobob...good points. And sometimes I know I do daydream, driff off while watching tv.
If you ever get a chance, however, and they run it again... do watch CMT's Bluegrass Sound special. It featured bluegrass from an instrument's view....how each instrument is made. It showed mandolins and banjos, etc. being made by master craftsmen. How they select the wood and shape it for the best sound, etc. Really interesting stuff. I learned a lot. And I don't think I daydreamed....but maybe I did!
Have a good day.

LOL to be totally honest trl is a waste of time. i vote for the calling everyday b/c i am on their street team and i get through with other people sometimes 25 times a day and all of us vote and they never get on it or are like 8 and 9 so its really pointless to mess with trl, but if NC needs that done then i will have to do it!!!

OMG ILUVCHRIS!! The Osbournes ROCKS!! That's totally my favorite show on TV right now! It's hilarious!! Was it not totally classic on that one episode when Sharon wanted him to have bubbles on his tour and he got all mad and he sat down in that chair and fell over backwards?! I laughed till I cried!!
As for the Carson debate, I for one have to give him some props. I mean, I wish I could be a basically talentless nobody who makes millions of dollars a year making jokes about strip clubs and hanging out with celebrities!
And as for the NC on MTV issue....now that I've heard the news about their new album, I don't think that will be such a far away goal after all. I would love to see Nickel Creek get on MTV. Maybe they could purify it a little...

I wish they'd play on 'Austin City Limits' on PBS again. I was planning on recording the one in May or whatever, but you know, parents say,'go to bed' so I posted notes all over the TV so my dad would record it, and he fell asleep! And he ruined my whole Summer, except, on Sept. 6, they are playing in Jacksonville, Oregon, so I am ready to take a bus down the 500 miles to get there!!!! I hope...........
