Paste Magazine's new issue has the interview I did with Chris, Sean, and Sara back in June.

Thanks! At the mag's site now, looks like a really interesting magazine! Not much out there covering these artists *you'll find articles sometimes, but not a big focus* Where is Paste usually sold? Not sure if it's anywhere around me...

I would suggest Barnes & Noble or Borders to find Paste

Hmm...I may have to buy it online then...just moved where it'll be tough to get to a B&N or Borders *which is kinda sad, love Borders* May have some independent store around here that would carry it; may have to try the library, too :P

I just wanted to say that I love Paste Magazine, and I quoted your Nickel Creek article on my radio show Monday night. Nickel Creek is playing in my town tonight, and I've been promoting the show pretty heavily for the last month or so.
Anyway... I was trying to tell people what to expect from the show by listing some of the band's influences (Beck to Bela Fleck, Coletrane to Chopan, & Rhett Miller to Radiohead). I ended up using Chris's quote, ...Everything you hear is an influence, if it's played with skill & passion. I then made the comment that Nickel Creek must be influencing a lot of new performers.
I also thought it was nice that your interview echoed some of the things that Chris told me when I interviewed him back in December. He talked about everyone from Bartok to Brad Mehldau and listed Radiohead as a major current influence. He also talked about the dangers of putting yourself in a musical box and not listening to anything outside of that box. He didn't want to be pigeon holed into a specific genre. It was a really neat perspective to hear from a musician who just wants to make music... not write to a specific sound.

P.S -- The new issue is great so far. I can't wait til I have time to read the Over the Rhine piece. I also love the CD. I have them all so far, and they never disappoint. The reviews are usually pretty spot on as well... but how does Bela Fleck's Little Worlds only get two-and-a-half stars? Take away The Ballad of Jed Clampet, and you have three incredible discs.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't even have my copy yet!
As to the reviews, I write lots of them for a site called The Phantom Tollbooth (www.phantomtollbooth.org). That was my first article for Paste. I'm hoping they'll run an interview with Glen Phillips that I'm doing on 11/6. He's playing The Patio in Indianapolis.
Nickel Creek was very gracious and a lot of fun to talk to. Chris and I have a lot of the same interests, even on obscure things, like baseball cards and Calvin and Hobbes, so it was easy.
Hope I get my copy soon!

My station manager brought a couple of copies back from the Americana Music Association Conference in Nashville. I don't know if they've made it out to the stands yet.
Good luck with the Glen Phillips piece. Might be a tough sell though... there's already a GP article in the new issue.
And... Yes. The band is very easy to talk to. I talked to Chris for more than a half-hour when I did my interview. It was a lot of fun.

 Well, that figures. I've been pushing them to let me do a Glen piece, and they give it to someone else.

I wanna read your article, but I'm having a hard time finding it. No doubt it's staring me in the face, but would you mind putting up the link anyway? Thanks :)

Brian, can you post links to some of your reviews at The Phantom Tollbooth site?

Just go to www.phantomtollbooth.org and click on reviews.
I reviewed both of Glen Phillips' solo albums, and someone else there reviewed NC's ( I was late to the game on them)
