Okay, so I just heard a different version of House of Thom, on every live show that I have...and in the middle of it, they changed into a totally different song...Does anyone know what it was? It sounded very Irish, if that helps any...

Yeah, that Celtic piece they added into the middle is called Raggle Taggle Gypsy....

You can listen to it by going to the Chieften's site at www.Irish.com

Go to discography, and Raggle Taggle Gypsy

*Note, the webiste is made in flash, and will not load if you have a pop-blocker running at the time, be sure and disable it.

Depending on what show you're listening to- it could also be the song Rings of Fire. I believe someone said it's a Riverdance piece or one similiar. I've heard it on several live shows this summer. Was it a taped show you were listening to or one you just recently went to?

In 9/4/03, 6/13/03, & 6/11/03 it's all the same song...I do not yet have a show that does not have a different song in the middle of Tom...

I've got those shows too- all 4 including 7.21.03 and I had that they were all Rings of Fire. It's all the same piece. It didn't sound like Raggle Taggle Gypsy to me but I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure? LoveDixie where did you read it was Raggle Taggle Gypsy for the 7.21.03 show?

After careful anaylizing, I have concluded that the first and second part of the celtic piece in Bombadil are the same as the 3rd and fourth parts in Strings of Fire...with two slight differences. 1.) It's in a different key. 2.) On the recording Strings of Fire, the piece is much faster and has much more fancy licks in it. I was all confused the first time I heard the piece in Bombadil. The song sounded so similar, but I didn't know for sure. Sarah pointed out that they were.

It was my own discovery. I knew I had heard the Raggle Taggle Gypsy part before when I listened to it on the Cheiftains cd... so I compared the two... I'm pretty sure they're the same

Strings of Fire and TomBom are the same songs, which is the reel interlude that the Chieftains put into Raggle Taggle Gypsy, but as I was looking for the song in various Irish music directories, I only found one polka called Raggle Taggle Gypsies and that's not the song. So the actual reel has some different name that may forever remain a mystery, unless someone has heard the real reel title.

Well, I found the REEL title...;)

It's real name is Congress Reel.
