At the show we saw, they asked if the audience wanted a vocal or instrumental song next. What do you prefer?

What a tough question. I love them both. Man, do I really have to choose? [think]

i voted instrumental but it depends on what vocal song they do. i like all of their instrumentals and there are some vocals i'm not quite head over heels for.

I voted for vocals because I love each of their voices. There is a distinct quality to each voice that makes it beautiful. Now, if only Sean would sing more...

I voted for Instrumental. I don't know. There's something about them that just calms me and lets me focus.

Though all three are extremely vocally gifted, I chose instrumentals. Some things can't be said with words.

Gosh, that is a toughie! I love the instrumentals, some of them are just so refreshing to my soul. I think that's what I'd vote for at a concert. But for the poll I put down vocals because I can sing along with them :p

that is really hard to choose, but i would just have to say either, as long as NC was there preforming it wouldn't matter!!

They are certainly better musicians than they are singers, but Chris' voice is what sold me in the first place, and (with Sweet Afton playing behind me right now) I'd trade a dozen instrumentals to hear this live!

A simple question deserves a simple answer. NC's instrumentals out-weigh their vocals by 50%. NC is relatively new in the vocal world of music, I foresee less instrumental and more vocal in the future of NC unfortunately. If I had to choose a favorite vocal though, it would be one that Chris wrote and sings...that would be Green and Gray. For instrumental, I would say Song for a Young Queen takes the cake. I don't really care for Sara's voice, and while I like Seans, I have never heard him sing live when he hasn't had a cold. Overall, I would say that Chris has the best vocal range and best musical abilites.

WOW thats a little crazy thilefan!! i think they are all vocally talented, and musically as well, but chris is a hella good mando player and i don't think anyone could touch him on that one!!

before nickel creek, i didn't pay attention too much to instrumental music, but now I think I would enjoy an instrumental from them even more so than a vocal... Their skills are just remarkable!

is it no coincidence that all the singles (unless I'm mistaken) have been vocal? It's easier to get radioplay with vocals then instrumentals and more radio stations will play a nice voice singing than a bluegrass solo...it might be better to go vocal

I think that they have both vocal and instrumental talent-A LOT of that talent to be exact. I voted for vocal, but really I could go for either.

[think] Good Question Mandobob,

When listening to New Grass/New Acoustic stuff I generally prefer the instrumentals - my favorite instrumental of all is the song Bigfoot by New Grass Revival. A Bela Fleck composition that shows up on Live Art but sounds better to me purely acoustic as with the NGR.
But with Nickel Creek, it's a tough call because they all have great voices. I would have to say that the instrumentals are still preferred by me, I especially love the Celtic sounding tunes they play.
