Hey guys, there's a thread on the Jarks message boards about this, and i was wondering what you guys think. I know there's a few Jars fans on here, but what do you think about them touring with NC? And i heard from someone that Dan Haseltine said that the band is friends with the Creek. Has anyone heard that before? It sounds so....i dunno, unreal? I think it would be really cool if it were true, but i just don't know if i believe it..but whatever...lol

Here's a quote from Sara's journal entry for February 24, 2001

That night we played at Largo - our LA home club - where we got to meet some heroes of ours, among them some guys from Jars of Clay, whose music seriously impacted our ever-evolving Nickel Creek sound, the other being a great LA producer named Jon Brion.

Thats pretty sweet. Would have never guessed. I've been listening to Jars of Clay for years.

I don't know about a tour. **Thinking** It might be a weird combo first, but let me tell you, I'd be there at their concert in a heart beat if this was ever put into the works.

Yeah, wouldn't it be great?! I never even really thought of them going on tour together until i heard Who We Are Instead. I think they do an awesome job with acoustic music! It's kinda cool becuz i've met a bunch of Jars fans that are NC fans too:D How exciting! lol

I should get off my butt and listen to these guys... heard a lot about them even from secular circles, which is insanely cool.

They do a cover of America's Lonely People on their latest album. Good stuff.

Which album should I get first?

jars- #1- with flood on it- is a clasic... more worship sounding

#2 much afraid- IMO|, i like this one the best.. is a lot darker... [one of my top 10 fav cds] more toadish at times- kinda..elliot.. not too many people like this one.. so i might be alone here.. and it takes a while to grow on you..

the others are all cool [specially zoo]- and elephant sessions. the new one is actually the one i like the least as of now- but giving it some time to grow on me...

I have all their albums except for Furthermore, and Matt, my favorite ones are a tie between WWAI (the new one, which is totally awesome! And yes, it took awhile to grow on me. At first i didn't really give it a chance, but then i listeneed to it like crazy for a couple weeks, now i'm in love with it!), Much Afraid, and The Eleventh Hour. My first favorite was Much Afraid, and i know alot of ppl who like that one the best, so you're not alone! lol! All of them are very good though! I don't think i'd recommend If I Left The Zoo for the first one you buy, since it's one of those albums that the first time you listen to it, you're not very impressed, but then it kinda grows on you and then you love it! But for the first one, the self-titled is a good suggestion, or else Who We Are Instead. I think you might like their new cd alot becuz it's kind of country influenced, and has steel and mando in it! It's also acoustic. It's AWESOME! You can listen to clips off the cd on their site, but it's nothing compared to the cd :) But yeah, you should start getting into them! They're definitely one of my favorite bands! I just saw them in concert for the first time last Sunday, and they were SOOOOO cool!

Much Afraid and If I Left the Zoo are my favorites, but their first one has so many classics... just truly awesome and powerful songs. But I dunno. Anything Jars has done lately takes a while for me to get into, but once I let it settle, I always adore it. They are just great.

This would be a hard choice. Their style of music changes with every album. If you had to get 2 that they are currently into is Furthermore & Who We Are Instead, they are doing a acoustic tour with Caedmons Call & Steven Delopulous (apologies if I butchered his name, former lead singer of Burlap To Chasmere, if I get any Christmas money this year, I am getting that album) I have all their albums except for Who We Are Instead and Stringtown which is available only for the fan club.

1.) Jars Of Clay - self titled is their breakout CD. When this came out, there wasn't really a sound like theirs heard of before and it was hailed as being an album with a very creative sound with uplifting lyrics

2.) Much Afraid - can't really say that this album was darker, but it was more of like a person seeking for answers, coming back from near defeat or a person seeking redemption

3.) If I Left The Zoo - I call this the experimental album. Jars I think were trying to break away from their signature sound and fool around with different sounds

4.) Some company gave a free CD away to those who bought If I Left The Zoo which has a bunch of live songs and would be willing to burn to anyone for a trade. You can't find it anywhere

5.) The Eleventh Hour - This to me is their apex, their point in their lives and musical career

Many thanks for your time in detailed responses, I truly appreciate it. I'll probably go after Much Afraid or If I Left The Zoo at this point. :)

Me Died Blue is one of my favorite purchases all year. I listened to it at the store and was just like.... wowwww... haha. Still get that feeling. :D

Who We Are Instead is the only one I have so far *friend gave it to me*...I was really pleasantally surprised, cuz I wasn't quite sure what to expect...Love the album though, All The Lonely People is a great cover. Their music is really interesting - basically optimistic lyrics, but delivered really desperately and with darker music than you'd expect, which is a nice mix...love something just a little different :) I would recommend giving this one a listen, but it sounds like there are Jars people here more worthy to listen to - I am a definite newbie!!! Yeah, Lonely People is a good song! I love their new album too! Alot of ppl don't appreciate it as much as their other albums, but it's become one of my favorites! Hey, you havta see what Dan posted on the Jarchives message boards last night! http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post?id=321&action=vpost&username=jarchives&forum=3 If you don't wanna click the link, this is what he said WE ARE HUGE FANS of NICKEL CREEK!!! We have thrown around the idea of doing shows together. Sean, and Sara are friends of ours. So.....if we can ever end up on the same touring cycle...we might actually do some shows. keep praying How cool is that?!

That is very cool!! I love when a musical circle is small, and bands are willing to work together.... :)
