I'm getting a file not found error when trying to run the Webcast. I think I have the time right: 6:45 EST = 3:45 PST.

It'll be on for a couple of hours - starting with the recording of the Woodsongs radio hour (the syndicated radio show) and followed by a full Thile/Marshall concert (which should start at 8PM EST or shortly thereafter). So far, it's an amazing show. The host, Michael Johnathon, is doing a nice job of interviewing Mike and Chris. And they're playing some great music.

Chris opened his part of the show with a solo mandolin piece called The Lament for Dewayne Pomeroy. If you want to know more (as I did) about Dewayne Pomeroy, here's a link that will provide some information:

It may be that the firewall at my office has this blocked - bummer.

Are they not going to broadcast the concert after the show? They just cut the audio after the guy said they'd be back in 10 minutes. Hopefully they come back.

I think they are because if they weren't gonna show the concert they woulda totally cut the broadcast after the radio show was over. Even if they don't the show was a good enough treat for me seeing as I was gonna go see them tomorrow in Covington but parents restrict because of the weather.

I got a set list of the radio show if anyone wants it or possible future use:

Odeon (Marshall)
The Lament for Dewayne Pomeroy (Thile)
Desvairada (Both)
Ode to a Butterfly (Thile)
Bach Variation (Both)
Scrapple from the Apple (Both)
Fisher's Hornpipe (Both)

Actually Shogin, there are a couple things:
the first song in the encore was in Bm, it's actually Koala-Hai, Hey Ho was after the 50's Love Song, and the 2nd encore was:
Peter and the Wolf>Chrismas song>Big Mon>Sleigh Ride>Old Dangerfield

Sorry I just want to make sure that eveything is correct. :D

I added a review of the show in the Shows And Reviews section.

Thanks for the corrections. After the concert I went to my winamp and listened to songs to find the last song in the encore. I went through so many my brain musta gotten cluttered :D.

That Bulgarian fiddle tune that they play is pretty amazing. Despite its weird time signature, it really is just a traditional fiddle tune as played in eastern Europe. Somehow they (the bulgarian peasants who developed this style of playing) have managed to develop a system of playing that allows them to easily internalize that kind of rhythm.

It's in 25/16 time, so there are 25 sixteenth notes per measure. That's pretty hard to count, so try dividing it into parts (7,7,4,7), then dividing each of those parts further: 3,2,2...3,2,2...2,2...3,2,2.

If that's still too tough, try just reading it this way:

Dah dit dit, dah dit, dah dit
Dah dit dit, dah dit, dah dit
Dah dit, dah dit
Dah dit dit, dah dit, dah dit

Read it out loud slowly, then try it faster until you get to where each syllable is about a sixteenth note in duration.

That's the basic rhythm used throughout the piece. Pretty cool.

Yeah that concert rocked. I'd have to say that was some of the best I've seen/heard Chris playing. He's really up'd his game a notch. Chris stayed afterwards and signed the autographs as usual. I invited him out to see LOTR with us but said he promised Jessie he'd see it with her first.
