OMG that was an amazing show! 2 encores! and two solo pieces to kick it off! Wow. No I don't think that describes it. The show was beyond amazing. Mike and Chris's intricacies(sp?) were astonishing to say the least. The way the two worked together and off each other is uncomparable. Mike started the night off with Odeon and then Chris played A Lament for Dawayne Pomeroy. They then headed into a nice set from the album.Setlist is as follows:
Odeon
The Lament for Dewayne Pomeroy
What A Blast
Desvairada
Ode to a Butterfly
Bach's Goldberg Variation #1
Scrapple from the Apple
Fisher's Hornpipe
Fisher's Hornpipe was incredibley fast. After a few minutes of breaktime, a totally unexpected encore ensewed(sp?). The setlist is as follows:
No name in Bm
No name jazz song (Chris wrote it with Byron House)
Kodiak
Harvest Time
Carpathian Mountain Breakdown
In Which Jesse Goes To Koala-Hai And Meets A Sea Urchin
No name song
50s love song
Gator Strut
Hey Ho
Bulgarian Fiddle Tune in 25/16
Kodiak was definitely an amazing song as always. Carpathian Mountain Breakdown was, as Chris put it, a work for both the ears and hands. Didn't seem to stop them from playing it brilliantly. The no name song was very dark sounding. Kinda made me think of impending doom. That or something bad just happened. I dunno. :p
Gator Strut caused this: [eeek!!!!] [eeek!!!!]
Watching Mike, you could see he was having to try to keep up with Chris. They were awsome to say the leat. possibley one of (if not) the best renditions of it. The 50's love song was beautiful as ever. Brought back memories of seeing Chris look at Jess last march during the Seattle concert as he played it. I loved how Chris mentioned that he wrote for my wife back in the 50's. Funnier when Mike followed it up by saying that Chris is a 300 year old mando player.
I love how they make the Bulgarian Fiddle Tune in 25/16 interactive. making sure that the audience is totally invoved with that simple tune. haha
The Second encore was spectacular to say the least. Here is the setlist:
Peter and the Wolf>Chrismas song>Big Mon>Sleigh Ride>Old Dangerfield
They started out fast and got faster. that was simplely the fastest I have ever heard Big Mon played. Or Sleigh Ride for that fact.
In all, Super-super-super show done/created by super-super-super talented mando masters.
