Riverbend last night was great! The only complaint is that the set was basically the same as the 4-20 set, except You Don't Have to Move That Mountain and The Taxman (great cover!) and The Hand Song were in instead of Think About Your Troubles and Locking Doors.
The crowd was PACKED...they were on the #2 stage at 7:45, but they proved they belonged on the main stage at 9:30!!!
And it started to rain at the end, during the Ode to a Butterfly jam, but no one seemed to mind, and we all got up and started clapping and shouting and such....great fun! I think the festival folks didnt want an encore, but they came out anyway and did The Fox (with the extras (minus barenaked ladies for some reason) thrown in of course) much to the delite of all as the rain stopped.
Sara was gracious afterwards, chatting with a bunch of us, giving my fiddle player some tips and such.
For me the BEST part of the night was that Chris sat in with Jeff Coffin (bela fleck's sax player) for his set on the stage up the hill. Such a cool surprise, and he was great, doing all kinds of jazzy funky stuff.
I'll post some (blurry) pics on our site soon if anyone is interested.

yeah i have tons of nickel creek live shows and they are all pretty much the same except for the older ones. i just collect them because i love to hear them talk in between the songs.

I bet there would be an audience uprising if they didn't play certain songs though! :-)

I was at riverbend on friday and it was great. I also saw them in Johnson City,tn on sat and the show was about the same. They didn't seem to be as pumped on Sat. I talked with Sara before sound check and she sounded very tired. Either way they were great and I plan to go to many more shows. Also got my guitar signed by all three. SWEET!

Hey everybody!
we drove and drove and drove and after about 15 hours (really good time!!!!!!!!) We made it to chattanooga :)
The show was so amazing! No one minded the rain. Every inch of grass was packed. We had wonderful seats. Seriously when they did their last song, it felt like I had only been there a few minutes...so great. ZThey did one encore and we were hoping for a 2nd(be thou my vision) but no luck. I don't think it was NC's choice not to do a 2nd encore though . Afterwards maggie and I got to meet Sara. She complimented Maggie's hair (blonde and curly :) ) and told us we were hard core. she was just so sweet and cute and smart and geniune. Love her!

and the next day we went to Blue Plum (which I am going to post about on the other board) and a couple of high school boys who had driven from atlanta (brent & Brett) were at chattanooga as well and said that after most people had left chris, sara and sean went onto the hill by the stage and they jammed with a sax player (Jeff Coffin ?)
I am so jealous! OH well
It doesn't look like i will be able to make it to another concert for a while unfortunately however...we are thinking about trying to find sponsors so we coulld fly everywhere to see them....Maybe some rich old ladies with lots of cats who would like to see a couple of poor college girls being happy.....hmmmm........

Oh and btw- mandobob...I just looked at your pics and maggie and I saw you there! I didn't know it was you of course. But you guys were there at the fence when we were. I wonder if I saw any other board people and didn't realize it [think]

Mandobob-

I forgot to add....
It was really funny the whole time we were in Chattanooga, because we were all quoting you.

Well, what time do you think we should go downtown?
well, mandobob said.....

Do you think it will be crowded?
well, mandobob said....

...I dont know....Did we ask Mandobob?

I made a little notebook with all of our N.C. trip info including some posts that I got from you, so maggie, her mom deb, and I are all very grateful for the information. It helped us to have a feel for when we needed to leave places, what to expect, etc.... and it all made the Chattanooga part of the trip much smoother than it probably would have been otherwise...so thanks!!!

ok I think you just made me realize that I spend too much of my time here on the boards! :-)
but I'm glad I could be of help. I hope you enjoyed our town...it's a bit nicer w/o the festival, but that's the way these things go.
I saw a pair of girls and I asked if they were from OK, but no they were from Alabama...the ones with the matching off-the-shoulder (aka immodest (IMHO)) tanks...I didnt think it was you, but I gave it a shot.
it was actually more crowded than I expected...we wedged ourselves in the front where there was once an aisle (where wires to the stage were), and thankfully werent kicked out (much to the chagrin of the guy next to us)...it was nice to be away from folks who've had too much to drink and are more interested in the music than conversation. anyway...
do you remember chris talking about the bottled water with the salt in it? well I took mine out to look at the ingredients and then he said see that sir? and I raised my bottle to him...kind of a funny interaction...ok ok I'm a total NC geek now, I know.
so really, I DO have a job, and there's actual work to do these days, so I think I'll lay off the boards for a bit...probably....hopefully...
take care.

That is so funny that you asked the oneshoulder tanktop girls if they were from OK, because we were standing next to them half the time! But I was in black denim longish capris with a pink tanktop and a black cardigan over and Maggie was in a black and white stripe tank with black capris and a white sweater over. Oh and she has blonde curly hair and I had my brown hair straight with a pink scarf. for the record.....here is a pic of us at a football game. I am the one in the large stripey hat and maggie is the tall blonde :)

And I completely remember the water thing!!! That was quality Chris banter! I missed the talking in the JOhnson City show...it was too loud in the crowd to hear :)

And I wouldn't worry about posting too much...I have only been on this for a week and look how many times I have posted...but then maybe that should just be a sign to me that I am on here to much....oh well :)

I know I am a few days behind on this discussion but I just wanted to say a few things about the NC show at Riverbend. I have also been having some problems posting so it may take a few posts to say everything. I have just written two long ones then it wouldn't let me submit them. So here goes try three.

First, I thought the show was great and I am glad to have gotten there early to get the seats we got. It was also worth waiting in line, roaming around, then waiting in line again to get to meet Sara. I just wish I hadn't acted like such a dork when I did.[splat] :p

I also want to make sure and say that it was really cool to meet mandoBob. MandoBob, I know I probably seemed like a spaz but I usually don't act that way; I was just excited about seeing NC. Thanks for being so nice to me anyway!:)

OK, that one worked so maybe this time I can cover everything else. Sorry.

I said before that I stood in line twice. I meant that I stood in line before and after the show to meet her once, not that I left the line or met her two different times. Just wanted to clear that up.

I also wanted to add that I wish I had met Katy and Maggie but I don't think I even saw you from looking at your picture. I am suprised though b/c it sounds like from your posts that you were close to where I was. I agree with you about Be Thou My Vision. There were a few songs I wish they could have done that they didn't too. I think they should have been given more time.

About the girls from Alabama, I met them too. It turns out that they go to the same college I go to yet I had never seen them before. Small world huh? :p

Finally, I wish that I could have seen Jeff Coffin and Chris together. I bet that was pretty awesome. I would have been more than willing to stay myself but my friends were ready to go home.[sob]

Oh well, I'll get over it.

:-)) I almost forgot! Did anyone else notice Chris' dad, mom, and little brother standing at the back of the stage toward the end of the show? I thought that was so neat. It was cute to see his little brother singing along on The Fox to just about the entire thing, even the parts Chris added from other songs.

I didn't notice but I wouldn't have even known who they were. I have never seen them. It is nice to know that his family was their to support him though :)
