Alex Parks

Ok, so I made a post a bit ago about Tegan and Sara. Now I've got another great musician that you all should hear about. A 19-year-old gal from the UK named Alex Parks. She got a record deal in November because she won a BBC program called Fame Academy. I personally haven't seen the show but I have downloaded a few clips from it and some of her performances and music. A really close friend of mine kept talking about her so I figured I'd do a search and I got some good sites that have information about her and her music. She's amazing, she doesn't have an overproduced pop sound as would be expected from most that win a program like that. She's got a powerful, amazing voice, and she can write her own music. She's a little bit of a pop phenomena over here, especially being as the winner of the previous series has sunk without a trace! She seemed genuinely disappointed when they made her release an album straight off after fame academy with a load of covers she'd done on the show and about 3 originals.

I think it's wonderful that she won, and maybe record companies should look to find more young englishwomen with interesting out-of-the-ordinary voices to sign!:D

Yes, poor old whats-his-name from the first series had disappeared a bit I guess. Alex Parks drives me absolutely mad with how she sings! It's personal preference, but how she changes note half way through a word, it's like she stops and starts again, instead of kinda sliding through like most people do. Hard to explain. I have to say I think Alistair's song is better. But they're both better than any of the idiots who made the final of Pop Idol.

Heh. Yeah, that does annoy me too - but still better than Sneddon. I met Sinead Quinn from the first series recently, I was quite inebriated at the time and told her that Sneddon was a ::insert expletive here:: and she should have won. heh. She was actually quite cool.
I wouldn't buy an Alex Parks record, but I do think she's talented and did deserve to win. Better than any of that lot on this pop idol, you're dead right. But then, they did have to try to live up to Will Young, no mean feat!

YAY for Alex getting known in the US!!! I really like her stuff and love her voice, I was so pleased that she won. I'm still debating the album thought because it's mainly covers, but I think I may buy it coz she does them all so well. I loved it when she did 'Imagine' by John Lennon, that was very good!

I've never seen any of the shows that you all are speaking of but I have heard Alex. I heard her covers and I've heard her originals. I must say I think I prefer the originals, though she is good at her covers. I heard about her from a friend, who heard about her from a friend in the UK. Her voice is unique, I don't know what the other ones sound like from the show except for Carolynne because I've heard two songs that she did with Alex on the show.

Seeing as how you've brought it up, Carolynne shoulda won. No doubts! Not least because she's completely fit, but she also (in my opinion) had a much stronger voice, if a little less unique.

Although, I did like Alex's cover of 'Beautiful', so much love to her too. David Sneddons first song was okay, wasn't it? Something about an angel in a cafe? Shows how good it was that I can't remember ;)

Curses on my memory - it was Stop living the lie and was played so much in the shop where I work in the holidays that I could probably sing you the whole thing word perfect now.

He looked a little like a derranged chipmunk though, don't you think?

Not a bad little pop song as it goes, but his voice pee'd me off!
