how long after you guys applied or whatever for the street team (online I mean) did it take them to send you info on it?
There's one person at Sugar Hill who is managing the street team, and she's completely under water, because they had over 600 requests to join. If you've applied, you'll definitely hear from her (she's also going to be posting here on the forum and her member name is SugarHillHolly), but it may take a couple weeks.

it took about a month for me to get my packet, i think. i applied when they first sent out the e-mail about it through the official site, and I just got my stuff last week.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of banner to promote the new CD that I could put on the front page of my site?
Thanks!

I received my packet this week as well, I got the same as Johnny Do did....no stickers or posters. Does anyone know anything about reimbursement for expenses or compensation for this project? I know on the web site they mentioned concert tickets, CD's etc, but nothing was in the packet to suggest that.
I see that they want a weekly activity report as well as other communication from the reps, and while I would love to help promote their bands I am a little concerned about how much time they are expecting from people to commit to this without any compensation or reimbursement.
If anyone can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.
I'm sure Holly will describe better what Sugar Hill's plan is, but in general, the concept of a street team is a bunch of fans that just do what they do for the love of the music. I am not aware of any record companies that provide any sort of reimbursement or compensation for the work their street team members do, except in exceptional circumstances where, for example, a street teamer is asked to take on the publicity for a specific show where the show promoter might be supplying posters or paying a small amount to have them distributed.

Thanks Chip. I'll keep looking to see if there is any further info up here.
Granted I am excited about this band and would love to help them out, but when I received the packet and saw the amount of potential work involved I was concerned. This looks like it might be something for the younger fans who don't have commitments that folks like myself do.

Coming in a little late on this, but I wanted to say that I was so intimidated by some of questions on the application that I have never completed the signup process! Like this one:
Please provide an adequate explanation of an appropriate marketing strategy specific to your geographic location for Sugar Hill artists. Include time parameters, specific positioning ideas as well as promotional suggestions.
When I came to that question, it stopped me in my tracks. I have no clue how to answer something like that.

Same here...when I got to that question I had no idea what it meant. So....I just babbled on for like, a page about what I would do to promote them and how much I loved Nickel Creek. I guess they got too bored to finish reading it because they accepted my application and I got my stuff in the mail about a month later!

I got my packet in the mail....and now I am scratching my head as to what to do...not quite sure...My packet was some copies of some reviews and sugar hill sticker. I haven't gotten to work with it much yet....
If anyone has done any actuall street repping yet, let us know :)
I am thinking I will have a better idea on what I need to do after reading everything. I can already tell that I will need to recruit some friends to help me.

anybody else have this happen to them?
I signed up on the sugar hill site to get more info on the street team (or so I thought). I got emailed some info, and I said to myself, self, let's think about that and I dont think I went thru with actually signing up. and then I get a nice packet, for which I am grateful (I prompty stuck the sticker on my mando case of course), but not sure about....hmmm....

Very interesting, mandoBob! Not to mention amusing, to me, anyway.
Sounds like your reaction to the application info was similar to mine. :p So far, I have not completed the application, and I have not received anything in the mail, either. But I'll sure let you know if I do (either one).

I was taken off guard by the questions on the application and because of that I didn't even decide to complete it until last wed/thurs. and I got my papers etc...yesterday and I have been getting street team emails consistently. From last Thursday to Monday seemed like a very short amount of time to me...but oh well...it does seem like more work than I might have anticipated at first. I work 25 hours a week and take 18 hours of classes in addtn. to my already existing extracurriculars with Campus Crusade, my church, etc....BUT I want to do all I can for NC, so I think I am going to try to be a good delegator, and pull my friends into helping me :)

Those who have gotten the Street Team packet and emails, could you describe exactly what it is that Sugar Creek wants Street Team members to do? I may go ahead and complete the application yet; I keep going back and forth. But I'd really like to know what I'd be getting myself into first. Any and all information will be appreciated! [sacred!]

Hello Everyone!
I have finally had a chance to drop in on the message board and make a few comments and answer some questions. All of the packets have been sent out as of yesterday. If you do not receive your first paper packet in the mail by next week, please let me know. Also, we are changing the format of the street team entrance packet. It will now only be available in email format. That will save Sugar Hill time, money and will get you all the materials instantly. (and we all like that!)
So, with that said on to the rest...
The application asks specific questions of you to help us seperate the dedicated from those who simply want free stuff. Sugar Hill is committed to having street teams that are fans, good people, trustworthy and dedicated. (which I am sure you all are!) We are still a small label and while we would like to send out stuff all the time, however, we simply cannot afford to.
The questions on the application can be answered by simply telling me some of your ideas for where to place Nickel Creek promotional items. There are NO wrong answers! A strategy could be (but is not limited to) introducing yourself to the local merchants, setting up displays in local stores, calling radio stations..etc. A marketing strategy is just like a plan of action. It is important to us that you talk to your friends about Nickel Creek and they follow your lead!![run]
The actual duties of this rep program are very open. I want you to do what you are comfortable doing to help promote the band. If you like meeting people, talk it up at a local music store or club. If you are more interested in just hanging posters, that is fine too. Everything you do to get the word out there on Nickel Creek is part of your rep position. It can be on a grand scale, such as giving away promo items at a local festival, or a tiny contribution such as calling your local radio station once a week. Your commitment to Nickel Creek is obvious to me, lets make it obvious to everyone! Sugar Hill would like for you to be able to show your commitment to your communities in your own way, using your own personality, style and panache.
If you have not been receiving emails from me in the past week, please send a blank email to me, with your name in the subject line and I will fix the error. Many of your email addresses have been bouncing back and I would like to correct this! :)
I hope everyone is well and I am looking forward to seeing you all in action soon!
AUGUST 13th is COMING SOON!! party

Thanks Holly!*!*!
I'm really excited to be involved in the NC street team as well. My promoting is going to be concentrated around the Ohio State Campus (that's where I go... Go Buckeyes...WOOHOO!*!*!) and Columbus. Start August 1st I'm going to make lil NC signs and staple em up to the billboards down there. I'll turn OSU into a creekster campus...Just you wait![noise] Perhaps someday they can come and play on the Oval.
