Saw NC live last week for the first time. Needless to say they were incredible.

About half way through the set some of the fans started chanting We want The Ghost. I was standing by the sound board and could see the song list. No song called The Ghost was listed. There is no such song on any of their albums. What was that song? A new song? How did the fans know the song? It was a murder balad about a woman who kills a man in self-defense, using a broken glass bottle as a weapon. Sara sang lead.

Later they did a hip-hop song! I don't follow hip-hop so I have no idea what that song was either. The chorus was something like this: (Sara & Sean): Where It's At; Chris: I got two turn tables and a microphone. (Repeat). Very entertaining.

The song is called Where It's At. And I do believe it was originally done by Beck ( please correct me if I'm wrong ).

.

I think this is Caleb Meyer, a Gillian Welch cover. They played it last night at the Avalon, IIRC. It's not on any of their albums - yet ;)

YES--they played Caleb Meyer by the bus for us at the Norva show. Very good stuff, perfect for them. They did several Gillian Welch covers, actually, so maybe that will be their bluegrass tribute on the new album?

Thanks for the help! I used yahoo to find lyrics for Caleb Meyer. Yes, that is definitely the song. Now I want to get some of Gillian Welch's music on CD!

And yes, too. According to allmusic.com Beck does have a song called Where It's At.

One of the marks of a great artist or band: Not only do they know how to write great songs, but they also know how to pick covers.

The show I saw was at Faulkner University in Montgomery Alabama. I've never taped a show. I wish I could have taped that show. It was incredible. It was a small crowd in a small arena, yet NC played to us like we were the biggest and most important crowd they've ever played for. They obviously take pride in their work <--(understatement)--. You can tell they care about their fans and want to give us their best.

supposedly last week they sang Caleb Meyer on stage for the first time in Athens. we're getting shaky reports on whether or not Chris was telling the truth or not, since they have been playing it by the bus alot... but we'll take whatever word for it we can get i suppose? :)
