Hey everyone!
Just wanted to share a little something here...
When sara did my autograph she put Seek Him on it. Now she probably had no idea whether I was a christian or not and I was just really impressed by her boldness. She is in such a position of influence and I was so pleased to see how she (and all of the members) behave in that. has anyone else had similar experiences???

Yes, she signed my CD and my daughter's autograph book the same way
Chris signs his signature with a fish in it
Both are real nice touches

yes I think she puts that on just about everything, at least everything I've seen her sign. hopefully people who may not know better dont think she's talking about Sean or Chris or something! Just kidding...
really, it's awesome that she's made a decision to give back the gift of fame for His kingdom.

She wrote that when she signed my CD too! I was afraid that maybe she thought I was just a little to obsessed or something when I met her. I didn't realize that she puts that on most of the things she signs. I think that is really cool though that she tries to remind people that God is really the one to focus on and not any one person.:)

That sounds so nice! I read in an interview that CMT did with them and they were explaining how they were all Christians-I thought that was really great (You can read that at www.CMT.com and go to the 20 Questions part).
Do they mail their autographs to you or do you have to catch them at a show to get that?

We were able to catch them after the show. I have been told that you can in some venues and can't in other. We were lucky to get to meet Sara at both shows, and all of them at the Johnson city show...They are so so so humble and gracious and kind. I was very impressed.

Wow, after reading all that NC has said about Seek Him and stuff, it gives me a whole new look on them. B4 I thought they just played great music...but now I know that they are really great people too. I kinda thought they were Christians...and maybe even Catholic...when I heard The Hand Song But knowing that they sign seek Him that just makes me have a whole new appreciation for them.
You are the salt of the earth, and light of the world.

Go Josh!! Abortion is a no no!!
oogabooga
08-09-2002, 03:33 PM
just curious on this and definitely NOT wanting any contraversy, but well...because I am feel very strongly about it I am curious....
Josh- you are obviously anti-abortion and a christian, but how do you feel about the death penalty?
Like I said I am promising that I am not trying to instigate anything and either way you would not receive any judgement from me, I'm just curious....

Good question katybosu.
What I feel about the death penalty is that we should really leave the judgement up to God himself. Killing of any kind is wrong, unless justified, like in a war or such.
I believe the death penalty is wrong, and only God can hand down judgements of life and death.
On another note, I can't wait 'til the 13th!!

Good answer josh!
I agree with you on both points- the death penalty and excitement for the 13th!
I asked because it is always interesting to me because I run across so many people that are very anti-abortion, but not anti death penalty who go on and on about being pro-life.

so let me get this straight - killing The Unibomber is wrong, but killing in a war prompted by differences in culture, religion, revenge for various wrongs, or fighting over a peice of land is ok? when exactly is killing justified?

I am going against my better judgement by even replying this, because I don't want any big contraversy here, but at the same time since I did in a way begin this argument and a direct question has been asked I believe a direct answer is deserved.
In most cases I do no support war. I think that there are better ways to solve things, but there are times when military action is necessary. When we are discussing the death penalty those who it would be used against are individuals who have commited some sort of awfully despicable crime that makes most people's stomachs turn, BUT they are one person and we can protect others from them by putting them away. In a war it is in most cases not going to be a single person. If it was it would be a fight. A war can be neccessary when a group of people is in some way harming another group that is helpless. Then it is the duty of those who are in the position to help to come to the aide of those in need. I always advocate non-violent means of protection, but in such cases when one group is completely helpless against those who are persecuting them, I believe that it is justified to try to protect someone else or oneself.
In war, the options that we have with the Unibomber or Timothy McVeigh are not possible. as I have said, I almost never advocate any type of war. I believe when discussing war there is little that is black and white.
One note of clarification- I am approaching all of this from the persepctive of a christian. I do not believe it is my place to take another human beings life. Especially when considering lifetime imprisonment,etc...I do not take in to account the money aspect because then I would be compromising my faith in order to meet the world's standards of how much money someone is worth, etc...etc...In my eyes, if I was to advocate the death penalty becasue it is cost efficient I would be letting go of part of my beliefs in exchange for money...
ANYWAYS>>>>>>>>>
I should never have asked josh about the abortion thing because like I have said before I have never intended to start any type of contraversy or debate. I was merely curious.I should have had enough foresight to know that it might spark a discussion.
I like you all and I LOVE this board. Don't think that because I hold different beliefs that I am going to be hateful, judgemental etc...If any of my above explanation came of as such, I apologize.....
and now that I feel like the crazy religious fanatic on the board to other things..... :)
Happy Nickel Creek Day Eve!!!

Death penalty IS God's judgement. Says so in the Bible. He ordered it.

Oh and by the way this is just my opinion. I'm not trying to offend anyone or make anyone believe what I say. This is just how I'm being raised and taught.

I post not to cause trouble, but to simply get my opinion out there so that I can at least have a say. I feel that if you aren't speaking your part, then you don't really believe in what you say in the first place.
I'm gonna try to hit all the high points here:
1) I believe abortion is wrong. That child has done nothing wrong. It didn't ask to be conceived. It happened, to take the opportunity to live away from a child is wrong in any case. We say we protect children, but we let this go on, where will it stop?
2) I believe the death penalty is perfectly alright. Death was the God given punishment for several offenses in the Bible. God also says to abide by the law of the land in the Bible. To use death as the punishment for such horrible offenses like the ones that Timothy McVeigh, the Unibomber, and Charles Manson have done I feel is perfectly acceptable. To even hint at being pro-life and pro-death penalty as a contradiction is an ignorant statement (no offense, don't mean it as an insult). If you look at the matters, you can simply see they're nothing like each other.
3) War is a different situation all together. What Timothy McVeigh did was an act of hatred and rage, not an act of war. He was one man who lashed out against the government and a nation. What happens in war is completely different. An organization or group has waged an attack, and they have an army capable and willing of backing up that attack with much more hardfelt blows. The only options are to not do anything and allow it to happen again, or stop them where they stand.
Anyway, I'll stop ranting. This is something I feel particularly passionate about and feel that I had to say something or I'd simply burst. If you made it this far, please disregard what I've said if it offends you, I will in no way hold anything you may believe, be it for or against my own personal beliefs, against you.
In Christ,

I agree with you that if you don't speak your part, then you don't really believe in what you're saying.
We can argue until the cows come home about abortion and the death penalty. Even if we do, in all likelihood no one will change their minds, but ya know we're gonna keep arguing anyway! lol!
When arguing about abortion and the death penalty, everyone seems to always take the Biblical defense for whatever it is they believe. However, the only way that any change can be made to the policies of the US regarding these issues is on the standpoint of WHETHER OR NOT THESE THINGS ARE LEGAL. And since in the US we have seperation of Church and State, what the Bible says can make absolutely NO difference in the laws of the US. So we need (and this is as a country, not in this thread, and especially not aimed towards anyone in particular because in this thread we're just discussing stuff and not seriously trying to change the law) to stop arguing about God and find other ways to reinforce our opinions.
It may not sound like it from this post, but I am a Christian. I just think that it is pointless to argue things based on the Bible unless you are in a church because a.) I think that certain aspects of the Bible can be taken in many different ways, and b.) I can't FORCE anyone to even believe that there is one shred of truth in the Bible (though of course there is!) because thankfully in this country we have freedom of religon!
I hope this didnt sound too stupid...

Melanie, are you aware that the foundation of the United States was brought forth by our founding fathers, who where 99% Christian. The basis of the Constitution is made up of the concepts and beliefs of the Judeo-Christian ethic. This country was started on the very belief that our law is from God, and enforced and presented by mankind. Only through the years has mankind construed and twisted these laws, into what we have today.
Also, the abortion issue, I believe can be very strongly debated without use or reference to the bible. Sure, alot of Christians use it very effectively or otherwise to make their point, but it does not need to the only tool used. Yes, we get out beliefs from the Bible, but I can use a dozen arguments to make my point on abortion using social, medical, legal, and physical arguments. The separation of Church and state has no bearing at all on this argument, because you said yourself that religion shouldn't be a part of this argument. If it isn't, then we should leave Separation of Church and State alone.
Well, thets all I have to say for now. If anybody would like to discuss/argue/debate anything with me, PM me and I'll be more that willing.:)
Have a great day everybody!

Uh, yeah, I am aware of that. But if our founding fathers had been 99% Satan-worshipers, then would you be so quick to say that todays laws are construed and twisted? Our founding fathers created this country based on the concept of FREEDOM. People CAME to America to practice FREEDOM OF RELIGON. If America's government was ruled by Christianity, then <obviously> freedom of religon would be dead. I think it's funny how Christians (myself included sometimes, because I am a Christian) can support 100% the influence of our God in the government, but if, for instance, our leaders began basing our laws of the laws of Allah, we'd be the first to stand up and say THAT'S UNCONSTITUTIONAL! I fully support seperation of Church and State. And if our founding fathers didn't, then I'm glad that today's laws have been twisted and construed.

Sorry to double post. I hope that last post didn't sound mean. It wasn't meant to. I could actually care less what anyone's political, religous views, etc. are. I just like to argue. So I hope I didn't offend you Josh! As katiebosu said a while back I don't have to agree with you to like ya!
Anyway, this is a NICKEL CREEK discussion board, so I'm just gonna quit talking about stuff other than them!
Peace out!!
