Wow, I've just randomly been checking every couple hours (a little bit of desperation for the new album, and hoping for maybe a tracklist or something) and the new cover is up now!!! I love it, and it really has me curious about the sound of the album. Much better than a cheesy photograph of the three of them; definitely not a typical country cover, and of course that's probably not a mistake.

Just do a search for Nickel Creek at amazon.com!

or did someone already mention this...

well, i just checked it out-- I'm really not sure what to say! It's totally different! I do agree that its better than having just a picture of them. Having artwork is pretty cool, it's just totally unexpected for me :eek:

i really like that they have done something so different, i also think that it's good they aren't using the 'young and beautiful' thing like a lot of artists do.

good question. but there are WAY too many good CDs to buy out there to pick one up based on the cover art. I'll always find a way to check out the music before I buy, so I couldnt answer that question honestly. it at least wouldnt make me NOT buy it. theres some pretty weird stuff on Toad's covers, but they didnt scare me away.

I'm pleased they're getting away from the brown thing that's been going on, don't get me wrong, it looks good, but it is time for a change.

I'm sure there's a very good reason for this cover, we just don't know what it is yet...

On the subject of covers in shops though, I doubt if anyone who has heard NC and likes the music is going to be put off by a quirky cover - if you want it, you buy it. Having said that, marketing ie brand and identity should be relevant to the product, and without knowing what the reaons behind one are, I can't see how relevant this cover is...

OK - my thoughts: it's......different. That lil girl is really scary! It's not a Nickel Creek image in my mind. Um, well.....i don't think i like it. The way they wrote the name is cool, though.

I am going to agree with mandobob on this one. I think the cover art is cute. The girl reminds me of a character from a 1950's childrens book (think Dick & Jane)...and I love the font/design for Nickel Creek.
Honestly it doesn't really matter, I'm going to buy the cd even if they decide to put a technicolor burrito on the cover :)

yeah, that is definitely not what I was expecting. But like Katy and Mandobob said, I think it is cute. It sort of reminds me of Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia. Just a stray thought. :)

I definitely like it. It reminds me of a little girl with a secret. You never know what it will tell. Kind of like NC's music. Regardless of how many times I see them live, they always pull something in to surprise me that I would've never expected but for them (and probably no one else) it completely and totally works. Just a thought.

actually, it kind of reminds me of the cover to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' One Hot Minute CD. the girl's creepy, but in a cool kind of way. and i love the colors (plus the little sun/shapes thing on the right side)

I agree w/ the crowd. It is ....um.... odd, but cute. I guess. If you close one eye and squint the other lol;) I would really like to hear the story behind it. I enjoy the interesting (but very short) clips on the sugar hill site. Maybe thats part of the story? Maybe, no, yes? [bang] They said their music was going to slightly change so why not the cover ? :D Hey it works.

That's all good and well but there's a reason that you ALWAYS see pictures on Britney albums, and everyone in her ilk. It sells records. I know people who have bought albums on the basis of pictures (it certainly gets attention, and then, hey - she had that video) but if it's a not-look-twice cover you're not gonna think that.

Put simply, putting a picture of Nickel Creek on the cover grabs attention - we all know they're not about looks, and they don't NEED to do the young attractive thing, but if the whole point of this album is to be more popular? take from the best?

Well, I haven't been on the boards in a while but I saw the cover on amazon a while back, and I like it. I don't think the girl on the cover is creepy; I think she's cute. It reminds me of old art . . . like Dick and Jane type story books. I've looked at it again in light of what everyone's said, and yep, I still like it. :)

regarding the post-before-last....i don't think that Nickel Creek not having a pic of them on the front of their album will affect their album sales THAT much...I mean, most of the people who buy albums buy them on the basis of the music, not the cover of the album. i know that I, personally, have never bought an album of a band that I have never heard of just because I liked the cover!

i agree. i don't think by them not having a pic of them will affect it at all. i mean most of the people who buy it will know what they look like anyways. and if not oh!! but i mean if you walk by it in the music store with the cover it has it will make you do a double take because its not your average type of cover.

yeah, it'll definately make you do a double take! and from what I've seen, the new pics that will be on the inside of the cd will more than make up for the lack of one on the outside!!
