Anyone else going to see Nickel Creek at Ravinia in Chicago?
This is going to be my first concert a) at Ravinia and b) ever seeing Nickel Creek - I saw them on Austin City Limits with Dolly Parton, so I have some idea of how a live performance will be. My friend and I are making t-shirts ;) .
Can't wait til Tuesday!

My wife and I will be there. It's been a several years since I've been to Ravinia. If you don't have reserved/bandshell seating, you can forget about seeing anything (i.e. the lawn seats literally have zero view, if I recall).
I've never heard of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, the main act.

I've got tickets, but it's looking less likely by the minute that I'll be able to make it. I've got a very hectic work schedule this week and I don't take to the extreme heat very well (plus it might rain). I may have to catch them next time around... I'm curious as to what they'll play and how much they'll play with Bela, should be fun! Be sure and let us all know what they play!

Tim, you're in for a treat with the flecktones!!!
Before I ran into NC, they were my favorites. Saw a show with them and Grisman at the Ryman...the BEST show I've ever seen.
Different than NC, yet similar. I'm pretty sure NC looks up to the flecktones musically, or at least they should. Great entertainers, GREAT musicians, great taste in fun and astounding music. More electric than NC tho. Victor will blow you away too.
I hope for your sake at least Chris plays with them. I bet he'll at leaast do some songs with Bela as a duo. Let us know how it goes!

Ehh, I'm just going for lawn seats. I'll get chairs when I'm not a student. ;) I realize I won't see anything - although my brother reports if you follow the railing you can sort of see a side view - however, I hear the sound quality is great, and who knows, maybe we'll meet them. I can't go to Summerfest, which bites![bang]
I'll be sure to post a review of the concert.

I am actually going to check and see if cameras are allowed. If so, I'll have some photos.

I have a pretty nice zoom on my camera - as far as I know, Ravinia didn't say anything on their website...just remember, bring your own beverage, and dress nice. It looks like our t-shirts will not be able to be displayed at such a hoity toity place. I forgot it was Highland Park.
I'll make the best of it. I'm seeing Nickel Creek!

Be prepared for some possible fancy-schmancy people on the lawn. You may and probably will see some people with EXTRAVAGANT set-ups including mini tables, fabric tablecloths, candlesticks and even candelabras, wine glasses galore, etc.

That's what has been warned to me. So, now I have to change my get-up (I've been so corrupted by the Tweeter Center - I graduated there, but never been to a concert, but there you can come in with jeans and not given the evil eye.) so, maybe I can wear a skirt and maybe, just maybe break out my t-shirt. LoL. I dunno, wine with nickel creek....doesn't do it for me.

I don't think that you should feel you have to dress up. You'll see blue jeans, shorts, etc. Probably not too many t-shirts, but I can't say for sure. You may see a crowd that's older, but I can't say for sure. I've only seen classical, jazz, Tony Bennett, and David Sanborn at Ravinia.

I just checked on Ravinia, and it says that cameras are not allowed in the reserved seating area. So, it sounds like the lawn is okay for taking pictures - granted I get a good side view by the rail.

I know what you mean Matt, about life getting in the way - precisely why I can't venture up to Summerfest and see them next week. Oh well.
Unfortunately, it looks like the weather is getting in the way. I'm hoping these thunderstorms stop, and that this concert still turns out okay, weather cooperating or not.

Um, wow. Nickel Creek was really good, they played a few songs I didn't recognize, and the songs I did recognize were Reasons Why, Lighthouse, and This Side. Bela came out and played with them one or two songs, and then when the Flecktones came out, NC stayed on a few songs til intermission, where they signed autographs. The line was so long, and since they were only signing for 20 minutes, only a handful of people really got lucky. I was on the wrong end of the cutoff line, which sucked, but my friend and I stood next to Chris and managed to swing getting his autograph! :) Their manager was really apologetic about not being able to have them sign longer, but we understood. I got a lot of pictures (my friend and I got in so much trouble, it's a wonder they didn't burn our film). Chris came out and played a few with Bela and his group which was really cool, and I think were the crowd pleasers. I got Bela Fleck's autograph, and a few good pictures of them, and heard about how this kid made it onstage. Overall, it was a good show.
