I just heard that the Smoothie Song is going to be the only instrumental on the new NC album. Now, I know most people prefer the more accessable vocal tunes, but I would have never gotten into NC if I hadn't heard Butterfly and Tom Bombadil first. I'd much prefer a good mix of both instrumental and vocal tunes, like they had on the first album, or like they do in concert now. I will say, though, that I really like a lot of the songs I've heard them do (This Side, Locking Doors, Green and Gray).

ohh is that true?
I share your sadness then. Alas, we'll have to wait for the solo/duo albums then. Perhaps MAS? Hmmm...

I'm not sure where you heard this, but I feel confident is saying that it is false. They have been playing quite a few songs on tour that they announced would be on the new album, a lot which were instrumental. Of course, I don't know the names of them, only because they didn't announce them, just that they were new songs that would be on the new album. I'm not saying that what the truth in this post is etched in stone, just what I've been led to believe. So don't worry to all of the fellow instrumental enthusiasts!

I heard this from people who already have advance copies... I'm sorry to say, but it does seem to be true. I know they've been playing other instrumentals in their shows, and I would think that some more of them would be included, but I guess somebody decided it would be better to put more emphasis on vocals and less on instrumentals. I will be *very* dissapointed if I learn that it was because somebody felt they could market it better with less instrumentals...

Ya mean no one finds the instrumentals annoying? Sure, they're good. Especially Pastures New. Has a real Corrs feel to it. Sara's violin is hypnotic.
Anyway, the instrumentals are good, but I'm more into the harms. Vocal harmony is my favorite type of music. I'd be happy w/ an album w/ NO instrumentals.

Ya know, I'm actually kinda glad that the Smoothie Song will be the only instrumental....I mean, I LOVE LOVE LOVE their instrumentals, but I can't SING to them! LoL!

oh I sing to the instrumentals all the time, at least in my head.

I'm having a VERY hard time picturing NC music w/o instrumentals!! hopefully there will at least be extended solos and such? it is (unfortunately) true that vocal songs have a wider appeal, so if an albumfull gets them wider appeal, then all the better, b/c then more people will come to know their strength, which, IMHO, is in their instrumental ability.

I don't know how I feel about the news. I generally prefer vocal songs to instrumental songs, but yet, Nickel Creek is so talented instrumentally. I was hoping there would be less instrumental songs on the album, but I was hoping there would still be 3 or so, not just one...
Out of curiousity, who wrote The Smoothie Song? Anywhere I can hear it?

i'll be a little upset if there is only one instrumental because they are just sooooo good, but i luv their vocals too and it shows how they are evolving in their vocal areas. so i'll be happy with whatever they put out! it's nickel creek!!!!!!! how can i not luv it!![noise]

:( I'm pretty dissappointed about there being only one or two instrumentals too, but at least we have Chris and Sean's instrumental CDs for that. I am looking forward to hearing some new lyrics and vocals. I heard somewhere that Sean will be singing solo some on this one so that will be good.:)

I really like their vocal songs better than the instrumentals. I have never heard Sean sing on his own. I hope he sings lead in the new album. I can't wait to hear him!! I wonder what tv shows they will be promoting on?

Sean's voice is awesome! If he doesn't sing much on the new album, at least we know that we've got his new solo album to look forward too....he's singing NINE vocal tracks on that one!
