Hi folks -

I just saw a MAS concert this past tuesday night and it was incredible. Afterwords I searched the web for follow-up comments and more info.
I was saddened to find some derogatory comments about Sarah, Sean and Glen Philips posted on the message board on the johnpauljones.com site. I of course posted my two cents worth, but if you are interested in defending their reputations, please go to the site, click on current projects and then check out
MAS in Minneapolis. Let 'em have it!

Just curious, but are you from Glen's board? I read where someone from John Paul's site dissed them saying that JPJ was playing with such weak musicians. What a terrible person to say such a thing.

No, I haven't seen Glen's board but I am happy that someone else is spreading the word on the slander. I'm sure she's just an ignorant person but there's no excuse for calling Sarah, Sean and Glen weak musicians. She gloats that her husband (supposedly a respectable musicain) would never play with such inferior players.

Here is the link to the thread on Glen's board:

For those who are lazy, this is what this woman said:
Needless to say JPJ's ample talent as a musician remains the same. His rendition of Going to California was the highlight for me. However, I was really dispappointed by the lack of talent of the guitarist/lead vocalist, guest guitarist/vocalist and fiddler/vocalist. These players don't have anywhere near enough chops to appear be in the society of such a talented and legendary musician. The vocals in general and the harmonies in particular were glaringly poor. As an almost famous musician, my husband would never consider working with such weak musicians. We are left to wonder why JPJ has chosen to play with them when he could appear with anyone on the planet. I hope we can look forward to seeing him again with players who come closer to his level. Despite it all, I was delighted to see him play for the first time.

'MAS in Minneapolis' thread on JPJ's board (http://www.led-zeppelin.com/jpjforum/index.php?showtopic=64)

I don't think she realizes that John Paul wasn't drug by his toenails to play with those so-called weak artists. He was the one who approached Chris and he was the one who obliged to play with them.

Edit: I went over there and gave her a little bit of information-- friendly information, no sarcasm. I swear. :)

Makes you wonder if she knows that JPJ wasn't a founding member of MAS, and that he didn't put the whole thing together.

Ah, people amuse me.

*edit* Went back and read the first post and she is indeed under the impression that JPJ put it all together.

I'm staying out of it, though.

I described the woman's posts to a friend of mine at lunch today, and we were in tears laughing about them. But at the same time, her comments, especially about Sean's and Sara's skills as instrumentalists, bugged me, so I posted a reply over there… (http://www.led-zeppelin.com/jpjforum/index.php?showtopic=64&st=0&#entry646)

I think JPJ is really cool, but in IMO he was the weak musically link in MAS... the people I went with agreed. I enjoyed Going to California but I think it really showed up how far behind the others he is intrumentally. I respect him as a legend and entertainer, and enjoyed his contribution to the sets, but if you've seen/heard other bassists with NC etc, the difference is quite clear. jm2c

Well, opinion to each his own but Sara and Sean are both so AMAZING. And Glen and NC organized this, HE's just LUCKY enough to get the honor to play w/ them.
