Hi all! The new Aware 9 compilation is out and Nickel Creek is on it with Glen Phillips (of Toad the Wet Sprockette) under the name Mutual Admiration Society. The song is Sake of the World. You can get the cd by logging on to awarerecords.com or just stop by and listen to a clip of the song.

Those of you who saw their tour last summer, and maybe some of you who didn't, know that NC recorded a cd with Glen and it should be coming out in August or September. :D

Well, I just got this from Glen's website--

More info coming soon on more tour dates, a new album and the Mutual Admiration Society record, which will now not be released until early next year. It's a good thing though. I promise.

Guess we'll have to wait until at least next year :(

The song Darkest Hour is one of two songs that Glen wrote about his father's death. It's an incredibly moving tune... Glen was in his dad's room, at home, when his dad died and the lyrics of the song are essentially about the beauty of the experience of being there with/for his dad.

I'm not completely sure, but I think there are three different versions of the song floating around, one that's just solo Glen, one that's still solo Glen, but more fully produced with backup instruments, and the version with Nickel Creek. I *think* that the NC version will be on the MAS CD, while the fully produced Glen solo version is on his CD Albulum.

For those interested, the other Glen song about his dad's death is this wonderful, humorous tune called Dad's In The Garage and it tells about how his dad used to spend all this time in the garage doing scientific experiments, and after he died, they had him cremated, and for a while, his ashes were stored out in the garage in a box amid other boxes... something about There's DTP's papers, DTP's research, and one lonely box, simply called DTP. It's a hoot, and if you get a chance to get ahold of Albulum (check it out on glenphillips.com), it's definitely worth it.

They keep moving it up... it was to be last fall, then this spring, then this fall... we can only hope that it will be next spring, but my guess is that the record company is waiting until This Side peaks, so as not to eat into the momentum they're building with that.
