Hey, I was just searching for some tour dates of random bands and I stumbled over two dates of Chris' with Edgar Meyer:
1/18/05-Roanoke, VA at the Jefferson Center
1/19/05-Harrisburg, PA at the Whitaker Center
The site at which I found these dates is one that I use often for NC's tour. They also have a few dates there that have not been on nickelcreek.com. The site is http://www.pollstar.com/ and it's great.

Add another date to this tour
1/28/05 - Athens, Ohio (Ohio University) at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium
Just stopped by the venue and they had it up on the 2004-2005 Calendar of Events.

Trust me I do too! Vegas! I don't care if I have to clear out my living room so that they have a venue their size, just so I can see them without having to go 1000 miles to do so. Although I didnt mind.

They'll be performing in San Francisco (see http://www.performances.org/performances/performances.asp?PerformanceID=399). I'd be surprised if they didn't have at least one show in southern CA too...

Yes, there is a Southern California date. They are going to play at the recently opened Walt Disney Concert Hall on Jan. 25, 2005. I haven't even been there before.

I like the line in the program
Bass player Edgar Meyer and mandolin/banjo/bouzouki player Chris Thile (from American acoustic superband Nickel Creek) get together for some unique Appalachian-inspired collaborations. (from American acoustic superband Nickel Creek)
Nickel Creek is truely a superband!

Tix are $32.50 at the Whitaker Center.
I saw the Creek there last year. Its a really great venue. NC loved the venue so much that they did the entire 2nd half of the concert unplugged. It was awesome. I distinctly remember Sean breaking a string on his guitar, which was no big deal because Chris just soloed even longer between the 2nd chorus and last verse of Green and Gray. It was great.
I'm going to try to make it there again. Anyone else planning on going??

So I'm going to be going out of my mind in 2 weeks. Monday, the 17th, I'm going to see AKUS here in town. I was able to get my hands on two tix. Then the following Wed 19th, I'm going to see Chris and Edgar. I'm soo stoked about these shows.
Anyone else here going to either one or both??

I just got back from their first show here in Memphis. They were amazing. We all know how great Meyer is but you get to see just how far Thile can take it. Classical pieces as well as his original stuff. Simply incredible! Some people behind me had come from nashville, thanks to whoever took pics with my camera!

I know this isn't an AKUS forum, but I thought I would put in my review of last night because of how incredible it was. So here it is.
So I'm back at work today after an unforgettable evening here in Baltimore. First off let me say that I didn't think I would even be able to go to the concert because of how fast it sold out. The Meyerhoff theatre she played at only seats 3,000. I had actually given up on finding tickets and considered it a lost cause. I saw an add online for tix that someone was selling. I called the day after it was posted and made arrangements to buy a pair for $200. It was worth every penny though. The man I got the tickets from traveled down from New York City with his wife. They both were blown away. I told the guy when we met that I had been waiting 4 years for her to come here.
Our seats were in the first row of the Grand Tier, which is basically the first level balcony. It was hard to see their faces and being a musician myself, I would have liked to be closer to see their hands closer, but the sound was still superb, as my friend kept saying. They started off with Restless. Every single song she did, she nailed every single note perfectly. The harmony was soo tight. I think the next song she did was This Sad Song. I do know the 3rd one was Unionhouse Branch and I was just floored when I heard it. They did it faster than on the album if you can even imagine that. My jaw fell down to the ground for the entire song :o. It was just amazing. I'm going to attempt to remember all of the songs they did. So, here it goes in no particular order.
Restless
This Sad Song
Unionhouse Branch
Rain Please Go Away
It Don't Matter Now
Gravity
Goodbye Is All We Have
Wouldn't Be So Sad
Pastures of Plenty
Man of Constant Sorrow
Forget About It
Doesn't Have to Be this Way
If I Didn't Know Any Better
Jerry Douglas instrumental (A tribute to Peador O'Donnell w/ another song that I think was a Hendrix cover or a piece of it)
2 songs that I had never heard from earlier albums I think.
Lucky One
When You Say Nothing At All
Everytime You Say Goodbye
We Hide and Seek
Baby, Now That I've Found You
In The Morning Light (Ron Block)
My Poor Old Heart
Bright Sunny South
and closed w/ Oh Atlanta
Encore:
My Ain True Love
Down to the River to Pray
A Living Prayer
Alison made her usual comments about Barry's hunting, Dan being in O Brother, and she was just absolutely hilarious the entire evening.
The Meyerhoff is usually a Symphony Hall, so the acoustics are fantastic. The crowd was excellent too. No annoying offbeat clappers. They gave a thunderous ovation at the end of each song, but while she was speaking or they were performing, you could hear a pindrop.
The highlight of the evening came after the show. I bought a tour t-shirt (it was only $15, so I figured why not) and 2 copies of their newest CD. One was for my friend who was with me and the other was for my friend who also would've loved to go to the concert, but is nearly bed ridden from his cancer.
When we were leaving the venue, I convinced my friend to go to where the tour buses were and see if she would come out. Larry came out and I talked with him for about 5 min and got his autograph. Then he went inside because it was 15 degrees outside, minus 0 w/ the windchill. 30 min later Alison came out escorted by 3 security guards and a personal assistant. The assistant said Sorry no autographs, but Alison piped up and said, But there's only 3 of them. She was referring to my friend and I and this other guy that was with us. So the assistant brought us down to her and said One item per person. I had my Cd case and my other friend took the other CD for my other friend Josh, the one w/ cancer.
I went up to her and handed the CD cover to New Favorite and as she was signing it I told her, I've waited 4 years to see you in concert. She replied, Aww you're so sweet!. I could have died right there and been a happy person. Alison Krauss called me sweet!!!!
[eek!!] :D [shock] :-))
Then, my friend handed the other cover of their newest CD and I said, This is for our friend who has cancer. She said, What's his name. So I told her and she personalized the autograph.
I couldn't believe what a night I had!!! Probably one of the greatest concert experiences ever!! I can't wait until she comes by again.
Sorry this is so long everyone, but I just couldn't keep it in any longer.

I was wondering if anyone knew when the music from Chris and Edgars tour was going to be availiable. Any info on this would be great. And by the way, if you have the chance, definitely go see them play, I saw the Roanoke show and it was incredible. Thanks, Bo

Chris and Edgar played in this great little theater in Harrisburg, PA 2 nights ago. It wasn't the same one that I saw NC in a while ago, but it was just down the road. I guess you would call it the smaller theater there. It only sat probably 500 people max, which was perfect for the 2 of them, since they do the whole set acoustic w/ just one mic on stage. I was rather miffed at the 2 people who came w/ me because they didn't want to stay for the 2nd half because it was all instrumental. There was no singing at all, just the antics between Chris and Edgar, which had me dying. I don't want to post the set list on here so that I don't ruin anyone who may want to be surprised. However, I will say that they do quite a few original tunes, some of which have no title at all. Some that I do remember are The Farmer and the Duck, F#slowfast5, I'm Not Talking to You, and Shut Up and Play. Of course they throw in a few surprises here and there from their own records. One of the best lines of the night was when Chris said to the crowd, You guys may own the Super Bowl this year. Well done.” Then he said to Edgar, who was looking at him with a very puzzling face, “Super Bowl!?” “That’s football right” Edgar said. It was funny. I guess you just had to be there.

Some people might want to be surprised, but others would certainly appreciate juicy details! ;)
I've read that they include some stuff from NAWWAL (awesome!!!)...how about Raining at Sunset?

At Walt Disney Concert Hall , Los Angeles CA
You Deserve Flowers and one other (drawing a blank - anybody, anybody - Bueller?). Also the two palette cleansers from Deceiver.
Best quote (going to intermission): We're going to go back stage and freak out for a few minutes, then we'll come back and freak out on stage.
Chris bounded out jumping from the stage door and then looking back at Edgar, slowed to solemn dignified walk.

Thanks, E.R. I figured that they'd probably include You Deserve Flowers, since the two of them composed and played that one as a duo on NAWWAL. I'll be going to see them this weekend, and will be hoping for Raining at Sunset also!

Jonraz,
I got to see AKUS in Syracuse back in
April... They played for 2 hours, 20
minutes(including 2 encores)... What
made this worth every $ was meeting
Alison hours before the show-she signed
the LRBW CD on the front plastic... I was
completely floored-never will forget that...
Talk to you later on!

[eek!!] That's awesome nancy!!! Did you have to go chasing after her or was she somewhere approachable like at the merch table or something??
Isn't she the sweetest person on earth??
I just saw her again a few weeks ago. I have to say I liked the first time I saw her better. I don't know if it was because the last show I just saw was basically the end of the tour and they have kind of run out of steam or if they just didn't put 110% into it, but I liked the first time better.
I've recently been playing NAWWAL every few days or so. I think as far as acoustic music goes, this is probably one of the best CD's ever. The mix of songs, the arrangements, the players. I hope Chris someday puts out another CD like this one. We'll see what happens with their newest CD.

Jonraz,
I wasn't chasing Ally-just waiting at
the back of the venue... She came out
and signed things for me and another
fan(male)... We are still impressed
by her personality... Talk to you later
on!
