So those are a few highlights from the Columbia, MO from Friday night (6/28)
I have not posted this yet because I don't touch the computer on weekends, well it's Monday and here goes a little review of the show.
Overall it was a fantastic show, I have seen the band several times, but this show truly tops the list. As far a setlist goes they pretty much did everything off of the album, the only one I can think that they did not do was Out of the Woods.
As far as new songs, they did Locking Doors, which I did not like at all, This Side, House Carpenter, and a few others that I can't remember.
They closed the show with Ode to a Butterfly -> Taxman -> Ode to a Butterfly it was quite impressive.
Encore was the typical Fox -> Subterreran Homesick Blues -> Fox. Even though I assumed this was coming it totally rocked. I know this song is fast, but they played it super fast, the crowd was going crazy.
By far the biggest highlight of the evening was the second encore. After coming back out they all unplugged their instrument and walked up to the very edge of the stage an Chris proceeded to tell us If you know this song feel free to sing along and right there from the edge of the stage with no mics, no speakers no nothing, just hollow instruments, and pure voices they did When You Come Back Down. Which segued into a group sing-a-long with the audience. Very, very cool. After this Sara sang a hymn, I have no idea what it was called, but you could imagine it was beautiful.
Now about Chris' mandolin, I am sure he several, but one of his Dudenbostel's was broken. The headstock was broken off the same was Mr. Monroe's Loar was broken. Does anybody know what happened?
One last thing. They did an amazing instrumental that had a serious celtic feel to it. It started with just Sara and Sean, and then Sara and Chris, then the whole band. It seemed to be very impromptu. Does anyone know if this was just a jam or maybe a forthcoming instrumental?
Well I hope you enjoyed reading this, because I certainly enjoyed living it.
