The new Nickel Creek CD is coming out. It's been about three years since the release of This Side, but finnally Nicel Creek is bringing up a new album, Why Should The Fire Die.

OK, now we have 3 threads started about the new CD. Please always check to see if there is a thread started before you post(calling on my inner Matt again).

Maybe our outer Matt should give a sticky to the first thread, so that it stays up top.
i get discouraged seeing the yellow buttons, and then finding out its not a new thread. [sob]
help matt!

its fine, this was just musing on our part. the site has gotten really crowded with new people lately... we were just trying to figure out how not to have to go through the same thing with every new person every time.
and welcome to the site by the way!:)

Haven't been here in a long time - since Chris' Deceiver actually.

Anybody else anxious about this new offering? I am because Allison Krauss didn't produce it. I hope they are produced as well as well as Nickel Creek and This Side.

I'm sure it will be well-produced, but the production values may be VERY different from the last two CDs. Alison Krauss is very much at home in the world of Bluegrass and acoustic Country music. Furthermore, she has a light touch that gave the last two albums an airy feel.

The new producers are likely to have a very different approach. You can take some cues from their other work. Eric Valentine has produced CDs from pop/rock groups like Good Charlotte, SmashMouth, and Third Eye Blind. Tony Berg has produced a wide range of artists from intense rock bands like X and Public Image Ltd. to artists like Aimee Mann and Bruce Hornsby.

Valentine said I wanted moments on this record, moments where you think, how can three people and their instruments sound this big?. That should give you a pretty good clue that this new record is not going to sound much like the last two.

The good news is this - Nickel Creek are no strangers to the studio, and they're not a bunch of musical neophytes. They're not going to allow any producer to turn out a product that doesn't do justice to their musical ideas. And the Suger Hill press release seems to imply that the new CD will still be just mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass, without a lot of extra studio players (a good thing in my opinion). But it should be clear from this choice of producers that they intend a much more aggressive sound on the new record than we've heard from them in the past.

I asked Sean about that - if there was going to be anything with other instruments like his and Chris's solo CDs. He said no, it was still going to be just the three of them.

Yeah, no disrespect to Mark (or whoever is playing bass). I meant like keyboards, drums, etc.

I hope they'll still be banging on their mandolin, fiddle and guitar cases. That is the best. :)

Any word on whether or not there will be a Super Audio CD version of this album like there was for the last two?

All I have to say is
FINALLY!

They've been talking of a new album for what seems like forever, glad they've got one coming soon!

I wonder if Sugar Hill will put samples of the songs each week leading up the release like they did for This Side...and I think they did it for Deciever too...

Did he mean other instruments played by other musicians? Chris and Sean, even Sara, are multi-instrumental; I figure if any new instruments would be played, it'd be played by them.

I do know that Sean and Chris do play a
bit of piano and drums occasionally on
tour... That penguin attachment sort of
resembles Paz(an animated short program
on TLC)... Talk to you later on!
