I used to play softball, but I quit partly because I just got so interested in the violin and partly because we hit a bad financial spot and my dad wanted to focus on my older brother playing baseball. So yeah, I like baseball if anything. And being in marching band kinda made me enjoy a little football too. Other than that I'm not big on sports. I just try to take walks and stuff to keep in shape :) Oh yeah, and I skied for my first time a couple of weeks ago so I am not yet a big ski fan, but I think that if I did it more often I could come to enjoy it.

Ever since I was a little kid I've been totally fascinated and awed by the Olympic figure skaters, particularly the couples. It seems to me to be the ultimate melding of athletics and music. Having done a little skating myself, it's still hard to comprehend the level of athletic ability, concentration and practice to pull it off. To me it is akin to an accomplished musicians ability to sing with abandon through their fingertips, a direct connection between the player's imagination and the instrument, and ultimately to the ear and imagination of the beholder. The figure skaters seem to have the ability to use their whole bodies to turn the music into something you can see, as well as hear. Chris Thile is one of those musicians (virtuoso) who is blessed with a direct from his brain to your ear mastery of his instrument. He knows his instrument so well that is is not an obstacle to his musical expression any more, but simply the means by which he expresses what's in his head. Something for amateur musicians to look forward to, provided they have the passion to practice enough and learn to enjoy the journey as much as dreaming about the destination.

Pretty cosmic, eh? Well now that that's off my chest, I can get back to fiddlin'.

I still think Chris is the cutest guy ever, but I think I've found one that rivals him. Timothy Goebel was just the bronze medalist in figure skating and is just the cutest thing ever. He has such a boyish face and a cute smile that makes u want to hug him like a teddy bear. Did anyone else watch him skate? If it was a beauty contest instead, he would have won the gold all the way! he's a great skater too--landed a couple quad jumps!

Oh he was so cute! I'm so into the skating! Did you see the pairs competition? Wasn't the canadian program flawlessly beautiful? AHH I loved it! Other olympic cuties include skier Travis Mayer, speed skater Kip Carpenter, and all the medal winners in snow boarding! :) but I agree Chris by far wins my heart...:)
