For the past two weeks or so, about every other time I try to get on these boards I get a little message that says The server is too busy at the moment, please try again later. Is this a problem with my computer? if so, how can I fix it?

It's not a problem with your computer, but I'm very interested in knowing if this problem is still occurring... we were having this problem a month ago, but I thought it was resolved. The traffic on this site has increased quite a bit, but it shouldn't be to the point where it's overloading the server.

If anyone sees that sort of error message, it would be helpful to me if you could identify the date and time (and your timezone) in which it occurred, and the exact message you got, so I can look into it and take care of it.

We have been discussing moving this site to a different server with more unused capacity, but I need to know what's happening so that we won't just move the problem elsewhere :)

Thanks

Chip

When it happens to me it is usually at night. i don't think it's ever happened to me during the day.

OK, I think this tells me what I need to know.

It's looking like the peak traffic times for this board are also peak times for a couple of other sites that are served on the same server, and that's probably just hitting the server a little too hard.

We'll move this site over to a different server that's less busy sometime within the next week or so, and that should take care of it.

Sorry about that! Actually, there was a denial of service attack on the server (another site, not Nickel Creek) yesterday (Wednesday) that was causing all sorts of problems until we identified the problem and shut the guy down (some hacker from Italy)... but as soon as we have some spare time, we're going to move the site to a server in a different cluster that's less heavily loaded... sorry for the inconvenience!

Do you still want us to tell you when we get that message? Or is it not necessary anymore?

It's useful so that I can monitor the time of day in which the problem is occurring, and look at overalll load on the server at that point to see which site(s) are overloading it... the NC site hasn't ever had more than maybe 25 users at once, and the server can handle hundreds of users at once, so the problem is clearly not with the nickelcreek.info site... but the more I can pinpoint it, the better I can balance the load between the different servers we have.

I'm curious if anyone is still getting the server busy messages? We've made some changes and I haven't heard anything for a week or two, but it's important for me to know that, particularly since traffic will probably increase with the record release...
