Amazon is doing the same thing they did for Deceiver... if you pre-order through them, you can listen to a Windows Media Player stream of the entire album from now until September.

The quality is alright... encoded at 64kbps... you decide if it's worth it to you. I'm enjoying it immensely.

Bah, I feel your pain. And here I'd convinced myself it was worth the extra money for the release day delivery.[bang]

Ah, what am I saying? It's Nickel Creek...it's always worth it.

Awesome! I forgot that they did that. Amber, we must pre-order...after I get all the bills paid, window replaced, personal funds subtracted, and whatever else.

Not really, he's just obsessive about the money.

Anyway, back on topic: Woo! Early listening! Woo!

Oh, well I hope to pre-order it also. I can't wait. But I probably will have to because my dad will probably make me.:(

Those of you who don't want it through Amazon, can't you just pre-order it to get access to the stream and then cancel a week or so before the release? Your card would never be charged, so no worries.

Hahah, um... no that's called LIFE [lolol] That whole responsibilty thing? Comes with being a grown-up (without a trust fund anyhow heheheh) The only thing more fun to manage than money is time hahahaha. 2 concepts that you just don't GET till you're all growned up (and thank goodness, how fun would being a kid be if you had to stress about your budget and your schedule??)

And... on topic ;) Very cool that they've done this, should make for some fun early discussion! And hey, you can always buy 2!!! NC albums make great gifts, ya know!

Yeah I know about the whole grown-up thing although I am not. But hopefully you will be able to buy it. I don't know if I will be able to because with the move and all my dad's budget will be depleting especially if he can't find a job right away. But someway some how I will get the cd. :)

Oh my dear Jesus, this is AWESOME! Even though it takes away from the midnight trip to the store on the 9th, listening to it for over a month ahead of time makes it so worth it. I'm LOVING it.
Every time I think I can't love their music any more.... :)

I got my promo copy of it last week and I have to admit that I was a bit worried after hearing Chris' solo album, and not liking it as much as the ones in the past. But after one listen I found myself thinking I'd been stupid, Nickel Creek aren't Chris Thile, they're Nickel Creek - a collective! The album is very good, better than I expected, and although developed and matured, the sound is still very much Nickel Creek. I'm also impressed by the booklet, it's very classy.

I completely understand the whole not wanting to spend money thing. I do it all the time. In fact, I'm so afraid of spending money that I don't want to take the chance of not being able to cancel my Amazon order. So I guess I'll just keep the anticipation for August 9, and that will be fine for me!

How are so many people getting promo copies? Are you part of the street team? Or a radio station DJ?

Elizabeth

I have no idea how the others got their's, but I write for a music magazine here in the UK and know the people who do the band's PR, so that's how I got mine.

amazon is previewing the songs without it having to be preordered. I've preordered through the nc site and just got a listen on amazon.

You can certainly preview without buying it from Amazon, but if you preorder from them, you can listen to the whole album.

I was one of the few 200 people lucky enough to get into Friday night's show in Nashville. I arrived in Nashville around 2 and there were already people waiting for the Station Inn to open up at 7. Luckily, I went and ate and shopped a bit and got there at 5, just in time to get a seat. There were MANY people that were behind me that weren't lucky enough to get in. After seeing the show, I knew that pre-ordering was the only option for me. My local music stores don't stock new items very well, with the exception or releases by the Black Eyed Peas or Ashley Simpson... hehe. So, last night I pre-ordered on the nickel creek website and then noticed this forum only to find amazon's offer of being able to stream the album as well. So, what do I do? Of course, order a second copy to be able to hear the album ahead of time, which is what I'm proud to be doing right now. By the way, the concert was great. After the show my girlfriend was ecstatic because she ran into Sean and Chris on her way to the bathroom and had to politely ask them to move so she could use it; which provoked them to start a discussion about how they were always in other people's way. Me? I'm so foolish that as I met her at the bathroom to leave I didn't even notice that they were standing right there and walked right by them. I could kick myself over that. Also, Sara was looking exceptionally good Friday. My girlfriend and I both noted that. She was hopping (literally) around the venue before the concert and we thought yeah, that girl looks alot like Sara, but not quite. As for a remark by someone else on this topic, I have to say that Deceiver (imo) was an amazing cd and only illustrates the talent and creativity that Chris brings to the band. Also, 26 Miles is an amazing cd as well. I'd be hard pressed to choose between the two. I can only sing praises for the three as solo artists and as a group.

Don't feel bad. I have seen them in concert a million times and have even gotten picutures and autographs and such...but I can never think of anything to say to them. I want to start up a conversation with them so bad, but I never have anything to say except Great Show or something...yeah that is original...but I digress..

Sweeeet. thanks for posting the change in amazon price. I bought it and never would have thought to check the price again. Now its even more worth buying online because even with shipping its still cheaper than if i bought it in the store. Not to mention I get to play it over and over before the release date :)

I caved and downloaded the songs. I know I'm an evil person. But I will buy the CD as song as I have the money (And I have to do it online so I suppose I need some form of card instead of just the loose cash I always carry around because none of the stores around here have anything good.)

Don't feel bad. I have seen them in concert a million times and have even gotten picutures and autographs and such...but I can never think of anything to say to them. Well next time you see them you can tell them that Meg N. would greatly appreciate it if they came to Toronto (For the record I've never actually met them, so they wouldn't have any idea who I am, but I figure if enough people ask them for me they will succume and and journey to the great north)

I used lime wire. And if the cd was out, it'd be completly legal. But since it isn't out yet I suspect it may be slightly against the law... Not as bad though (in my opinion) as whoever uploaded it in the first place though... I just typed it out because I was curious, I was really quite surprised when some one (Actually several people) had put it on there.

PrincessNic
07-21-2005, 06:30 AM
I am not exactly sure how legal limewire is(but I can't really say anything since I use it too). I checked it a couple of days ago and didn't see anything...I am going to have to check again.

I want to hear it, but I kind of feel like I need to be patient though. That will make the album that much better if I wait to here the songs...with the complete package.

I tried to wait but..... y'know how it goes.
This album is bloody amazing!! I'm listening at work and I keep going into a N.Creek zone.... realizing that I'm just spacing out on the music. I can't wait to get the disk though.... I'm a huge fan on liner notes!

Well it's legal to download in Canada and not in the U.S. (at least I don't think it's legal in the U.S.) without paying for it.

eh, i've told the story several times but last time i talked to Sean i was with a friend of mine who is about his height (i am taller than the both of them considerably) and i made some comment about losing her and how short people always pop up at my elbow and he and she both attacked me with mock horror at my prejudice. Sean declared short people rock and i was immediately humbled.
so, everyone has their stupid moments.

As Randy Newman once said Short People got no reason to live. Now before I get anybody attacking me, I'm just being sarcastic and not even remotely serious just as Randy was when the song came out and people attacked him viciously. He was poking fun at people who make fun of short people. OK, sorry a wee bit off topic.

The great thing about them is they are just like you and me. They enjoy to talking to their fans so just relax and be yourself if you meet them. I also understand this can be easier said than done.

Not really off topic. Nickel Creek LOVE Randy Newman songs - enough so that they've added three or four of them to their repertoire. (Not THAT one, though <g>.)

BTW, he was poking fun at prejudice in general. But while the song became a big hit, it appears that most of the audience didn't get the message.

(They got little voices going Peep, peep, peep, They got little cars that go Beep, beep, beep....)

while on the topic of listening to wstfd online, my friend just told me that cmt.com has the full length songs up for listening.

I am holding out for the CD, however. I'm afraid if I listen to it too much beforehand, the CD will be old hat by the time I get it.
