Sorry for the lame question. I love nicklecreek but i am looking for a band that is like nicklecreek but purely instrumental. Are there any such known bands?

no. u will find that it is overly celtic or overly bluegrass. bela fleck is the only one who even comes close (tales from the acoustic planet).

There's nothing that is really similar to NC, they've blazed their own trail so to speak, but there are a lot of cool celtic/bluegrass bands like Brandon mentioned.

I would suggest the Telluride Sessions by Strength in Numbers (Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Edgar Meyer, Mark O'Connor)

If you like mandolin and don't mind the lack of fiddle, I'd recommned Phillips Grier and Flinner.

Check out Mark O'Conner's Retrospective album for 2 hours of fine instumental music. It also features Chris Thile and Bryan Sutton.

Oh yeah!! I second that notion. 2 whole hours of live unedited fine acoustic grandeur!!! [eek!!]

I understand your dilhemma. I've found some success looking on independent music sites (since, let's face it, mainstream music rarely ever has anything good)
cdbaby.com is a good one. One awesome musician that I found on that site is Ben Regier. He plays mainly the hammer dulcimer, but a little mando, too. Since he doesn't use many fiddles or guitars, he doesn't really have the exact same sound as NC, but his writing is very similar, and I think that's mainly why I like him so much. Check him out he's AWESOME!

There are a lot of GREAT acoustic bands out there... but I have yet to find one that has the qualities I love in the Creek. The combination of musical talent, vocals, and varied subject matter/ song choice has yet to be equaled to my ear LOL

If you are interested in non-vocal music, I think there is a lot more out there you can find and will like... as mentioned Telluride Sessions is great, I am also a huge fan of the Mike Marhshall/Darol Anger Duo material.

Vocal wise, it gets a bit tougher. Wisechild is a great band... but I much prefer them live to their recording. Some people like the Duhks and compare them to the Creek... I don't really see the comparison LOL they are pretty different... but maybe that's just me ;)

Something else fun to do is check out the bands who've influenced NC... Wilco, Radiohead, Elliot Smith, Glen Phillips... From earlier periods, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer etc.

I've found that to be more rewarding than the search for similar bands. I think I may be too much of a fan for that hahahahahah. But who knows, I certainly look forward to the next generation of bands coming up who have been influenced by NC!!
